    My MLB 2k8 Video Thoughts

MLB 2K8 videos were a mixed bag of beans. Unfair to make a definite judgment after what we have seen but I will break down what I liked, and disliked. First I have to preface by saying, the two guys who played this suck. Its really evident when you check everything out. Kush cleared it up already but this shows you that a lot had to do with the poor pitch quality. The Tulo HR was a legit HR tho. (sorry for the pic quality, best I could do)

Part I: The IGN players Suck

Look closely you can see the outline of a red circle on the outter half of the plate meaning a mistake pitch.

    And another meatball

Right before DJ cranks it out^

The guy playing as Ortiz struck out for Christ Sakes on this pitch

This lady's and gentlemen is the controversial Mark Reynolds opp. field hit. You can see that the pitch is over the plate and a mistake pitch which was crushed to the opposite field

As for Ortiz, I think they meant for him to strike out, just like they had Pujols strike out looking in that The Show video.

    Thanks for this, though.

      Part II: Likes

The pitching meter looks like a rewarding system that you have to invest time in the game to learn. If done correctly I think this is way better then the pitching meter which I liked in MVP 05. Look at all those pitches. The pitcher has a repitoire(sp?) of pitches he learned and you have a repitoire of pitches to learn how to execute as well lol. What the heck is that circle thing and how does it work? In time I guess we will find out

The throwing meter as described by Kush makes this a very dynamic element. Body weight, direction, velocity on throws, trying to gun down maybe Reyes or Ichiro running down the line. I hope it translates like real life where infielders rush throws and makes errors or they took for granted the speed of the runner.

Sig everything is back and im loving it. I forgot to get the papi hand slap but I am interested to see how deep this rabbit hole goes. I even hope I see Youks dumb *** sig so I can strike him out

I think the last picture should of been a little more to right center instead of down the line but it's all good. It was out over the plate enough. I just think the only way hits are going opposite field that extreme for that much power are when they are really on the outter edge or "outside corner". I bet these guys playing were on a really easy level too. Just to pick it up and play and I'm sure they make the game more accessible on the easier levels.

I want to see single player mode on at least the 2nd hardest level.

I can imagine him saying damn on this one

Here are two pics of Tek after the HR. He seems to put his glove to his face screaming obscenities

Can You figure this one out?...........Ortiz fouls one off and it hits the line. You see chalk pop up, nice little touch.

I forgot to put this in the IGN players suck part but for christ sakes have you guys heard of a cut off man?

Part III: Dislikes (besides Morgan and Miller)

This one irritates me b/c it shows the guy triggering to swing way before the pitch has come. He does it when the ball is released and he crushes it for a HR.

3D grass? I dunno, after further review I have yielded a conclusion of ?. I looked at various angles and all the vids but I just dont know for sure

This is minor but look at the batting stance of Jackson in the cut scene as compared to the gameplay one. The two are off quite a bit. N why is Eric Byrnes on the scoreboard? maybe he was the batter before and Jackson's pic will come up shortly

The lack of emotion/ the WTH is the cpu doing. I put this in likes but also I put this in the dislikes. No emotion from the pitcher or fielders. On the d'backs one the pitcher bends over for a second then just stares at the rack on the chick in section 119.

                Conclusion:
Overall I took more good then bad out of these vids. Its too small a sampling and these guys know nothing about baseball. I came away from it underwhelmed but after I checked it out again and watch it over I took some positives away and am looking for more in the upcoming vids. The hands on impressions give me a great feeling. And how can you not like this:

That was a problem in 2K7 as well. In the batter walk up they'd go into a generic stance, then once it breaks to the actual at-bat they'd be in signature.

No what I am saying is it definetley should of gone to opposite field but just not with that much power. I think it's just the lower level these IGN guys were playing on. Like to see a legend video CPU single player mode.

ok i just want to chime in on the whole controversy over the opposite field hit. I for one, know, as a division one catcher, that a ball middle and away to hitter can be pelted pretty good to the opposite field. If the batter is slightly late on the pitch, but still hit it good, the ball will go very far. And in some cases even over 400 feet. haha I would be a little more worried if the pitch jeter saw would have gone over the right field fence. So hopefully i was able to help put this to rest.

A pitch middle and away is perfect to go opposite with power. If it's too far off the plate you have a greater chance of hitting it off the end of the bat and just spraying it near the line.

                              There shouldn't be a complaint.

The guy that mentioned (I think another thread) that Jeter's and Tulowitzki's homeruns went to nearly the same direction...now that's a justifiable complaint.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob Neyer
