Re: name in a game...
It has been said that Brinkman and crew have a habit of looking through our posts here on OS...judging on Brinkmans influence on this game, he's a true innovator and what would be more innovative than allowing us pea pickers here on OS this "name in a game" thing?
They say that money talks! yes that may be true but I have to believe that anyone who has ever put on a glove and shagged fly-balls or swung for the fences knows a little about heart...
Baseball is all about heart, and I don't think 2K showing a little heart would be a bad thing...

Scooter...
very nice post and great feature for next year.
i hope you dont mind if i add on a little bit?
i think another thing they could do with the names of players would be to have at least 3 naming options
- first name
- last name
- announced name
with the announced name you could have many more possibilities. there is always going to be people that spell there name a little different but it's pronounced like something else. For example I have a friend who's last name is "Smithe" but the "e" is silent so it's pronounced just like "Smith". I think it'd be great to be able to put your last name as "Smithe" but then have an announced name option and choose "Smith"
i hope that was clear

Re: name in a game...
My name came up in 07 when I edited a player to be me.
I would always here my last name on plays and at bats and the Stadium Announcer would say my 1st and last name, my kids loved that when they would here it!Comment

Not only do I not mind but I would love this addition! This would work well to allow for correct spelling on jerseys along with correct audio pronounciation...
The way it's set up now with 2K7, is what ever you spell is what you get on your jersey... So if Smith is your only offer in audio and the correct spelling is "Smithe" all you can get is the incorrect spilling Smith on the jersey...
What you offer here makes alot of sense...
Thanks for your ideas on this...

Re: name in a game...
And they record audio for the games in the spring/summer-ish. As well as mo-cap. Which is during the baseball season. There is only 3-4 months of winter (before game ships) which is bug testing, game play tweaking, etc.
That stuff needs to be done early as possible, and implemented as early as possible to test for bug pop ups. You cant do it last minute, in the winter, before the game ships soon.
Wow, do the people at 2K have trouble looking ahead? Who on earth is stupid enough to think that they are going to get a list of all our names, sort out the legal issues, and then get them into the game by March 4th?
I'm pretty sure Scooter is talking about them putting this into the game in the future, not 2K8. If they were to agree to this, and start taking names now, then our names would probably be in 2K10.Comment

Yes Rob, I'm interested in seeing this offered in a future game...That's why now might be the best time to get behind this...Wow, do the people at 2K have trouble looking ahead? Re: name in a game...
I would settle for them adding all of the names of the guys who are going to be called up or making their ML debut into the database ie: Fukudome. while they can't name him yet, at least make the names available for us to create the players ourselves. And they can have Joe and Jon say the voices even though they aren't in the majors yet. Another thing, I'm tired of is the PA announcer mispronouncing everybody's name. I can understand that when you're on the road, but the home pa announcer doing it is just wrong. and finally, whenever you edit the player's name that they put in the game that is supposed to represent an actual player, it still says that fake players name instead of the real edited name. after all these years that should be corrected also.XBL Gamertag: BHowardComment

Blzer I always had a laugh everytime I got an e-mail from you
Anyways i'd like to see the guys who did ESPN NFL and the APF game to do the announcing next year. I think they'd have far more to say and it'd be a little more interesting.
Also knowing that they've done such a great job in past 2K sports games I wouldn't be surprised to see more names in the database

Re: name in a game...
I was entertaining this thought a while back, If 2K intends to continue with Jon Miller and Joe Morgan even though they don't have the time necessary to keep the dialog fresh...A possible fix might be to hire voice actors who specialize in voice mimicry, and let them go to town...2K would need Millers and Morgan's approvel...These actors could fill the name database with our names...
I own a GPS and it is amazing, several voice options are available...This state of the art "Text to Speech Synthesizer" does a decent job...Maybe 2K might be looking into something like this for a future game...

Re: name in a game...
FYI, game content is locked down a lot earlier than you guys might think. Alpha (feature lock) for 2K's baseball series (and similar MLB titles in the past) is in September. By the time December rolls around, it's nothing but must-fix bugs that are addressed. Devs typically read the boards closely during the first month or two after ship and only sporadically thereafter. If you want to get devs' attention for putting something into next year's game, your best chance is between March and May.Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that. I believe something very close to this is already in The Show series and I hope 2K can get all the little things sorted out in the future.

That's EXACTLY how it is in the Show...except they do not announce first names yet(only for the MLB player(SCEA created players) in the game)....

Re: name in a game...
Ben Brinkman,
Last year a competitor of MLB 2K's series ran with a simple request I tossed their way...
I suggested to them that instead of choosing Last names from a phone book for their name database,
why not let the people who post on OS and who are the most passionate followers of their game, send in their
own personal last names...
It was a good idea, what was remarkable was the Company saw the value in it and offered this in their
next baseball game...Everyone was happy...
Mr. Brinkman I want to ask you to take an objective look at this, please look at this as a fan would...
This would give your game that personal touch...
I would love to see this last name feature in a future 2K baseball game, so here it is for Ben Brinkman to see again ...
please consider using our last names...
