    Re: Short article on 2K8

A few of us said it already. All of the reviewers will complain that pitching is too hard and then say the game sucks.

If people are giving up homeruns for using the pitcing mechanism wrong then I'm fine...for now. I'll reserve judgement until I play the game and learn the controls.

I'm actually more excited to know that pitching is difficult for once. The meatball issue does worry me the most but again, no idea what sliders can do for that or if these previewers are royally effing up the motion. Are they slightly off or completely off? None say.

And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

      Pitching is difficult = excellent.

Pitches right down the middle every time if you happen screw up = amazingly stupid game programming. Kush Games, have you ever heard of THROWING AN UNINTENTIONAL BALL?

Tons of HR's = everything we've come to expect with this series for three years now.

None of this bothers me until I start adjusting sliders. If the HR's and pitching difficulty are still there then I'm trading it in in for a PS3. We really need the demo.

The new pitching mechanics worries me in terms of playing online. There are 3 steps to the new pitching scheme. What if user experiences lag during any of the steps?

And this comment bothers me also....

"but our gripe is how homer-happy the game gets if you're not pitch-perfect"

So what it sounds like to me is that if you screw up a part of the pitching motion, a meatball will be served,.. and homeruns become excessive.

            Great

            Then it becomes 2k8 Tee-Ball.

Call me crazy, but I don't really care what those guys have to say about an 80% build. It's not my fault they don't understand how to play the game.

LOL at the people who are using this as a basis for not getting the game. Does The Show use analog hitting? If it's still done with the face buttons I wouldn't be able to play it after enjoying the analog hitting in the 2k series. Then again, I haven't played "The Show" since the 989 days on PS1, so... I know bupkiss about it.

You do have the option to use past pitching mechanics. (Buttons)

baa, I totally agree that MEATBALLS shouldn't be automatically = OVER-THE-PLATE & should vary from Strikes, Balls & Wild Pitches. If MEATBALLS are very evident, I believe tweaking the CPU SKILL Slider will help with not making MEATBALLS HR's or hits AUTOMATIC when a MEATBALL is thrown. What would be nice is the addition of a USER MEATBALL Slider than can be tweaked, just like the CPU MEATBALL Slider

But why are meatballs even in the game? I don't get it.

As for pitching I personally like that they've taken a different route on how you pitch. People complained that Pitching was too easy last year. Brinkman changes the Mechanic & people are still complaining. I'm really excited to begin learning this NEW Mechanic as it seems very rewarding, yet @ the same time very challenging.

We beat the MEATBALL thing in the head via another thread. KUSH Gamer said that MEATBALLS are not as frequent as some previewers have been stating. We've also seen that not every MEATBALL is blasted by the CPU.(Ortiz/Wang Video Clip) From the videos I've seen(again not sure what level reviewers are playing) I see no issue with HR's.

This place is hilarious sometimes. Yesterday it was about the Presentation/In Game commentary. Today it's back to Pitching Mechanic & MEATBALLS. Guys have we not seen any of the work Brinkman & his crew has done to try to get this game closer to the Baseball Sim we want?
Hey my man! I know it's pretty amazing how easily these kids/guys get sold on a few people playing the game that they don't even know! They have no clue how good or bad they are yet they believe and make assumptions like they are facts. I sell Real Estate for a living and I have a 2 bedroom shack that I can sell you guys for a half a million! Let the bidding war begin, honest it's a great deal, I said so...

Because pitcher's do miss there spots in real-life & sometimes when they miss they miss over the plate. What's important is when you do miss your spot(MEATBALL) will the CPU punish you everytime as was stated by the guy from 1-up, or will the CPU punishment be random. What KUSH Gamer said is the CPU punishment will be random, which IMO is realistic.

Is everytime you miss your spot a MEATBALL is the result realistic NO. Does Brinkman have to maybe tweak this to make MEATBALLS random YES. People have the right to label this a game-killer if that's how they feel. Personally I just don't see it that way

It seems to me the issue in previous versions can't be corrected with the meat pitch slider. It's what you're saying: that the slider affects how hard the ball is hit, not whether the pitch ends up over the plate for a strike versus outside for a ball. Instead, that slider should determine where the pitch ends up. At 100%, all mis-pitches should be strikes. At 50%, half the mis-pitches one throws should end up as balls, not strikes. Etc.

excellent point...i agree with you 100% man. If meatballs turn into HR everytime, I will be extremely dissappointed...However, if it is random then that would be much more realistic or SIM

I wouldn't call it a game killer. I always played 2K with the meat pitch slider at 0. It wasn't perfect, but it basically allowed me to play the game without ripping my hair out.
