      Short answer, yes.

Unless it was changed from last year, this is how it will be.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Gametap talks about the love for the new pitching system. Hard at first, and still struggling.... wow, that would not suck much huh?

Nice article. Like how mid to low starters are more difficult. Don't know if this is a feature or has been suggested, but it would be cool if the system was easier to execute on a pitchers best pitch and harder on his worst.

I'm probably looking way to into this, but I hope this means that a good pitcher is noticeably better than a bad one and doesn't litteraly mean that a #1 is better than a #4 based soley on role. In other words, their role doesn't dictate their performance and Johan Santana will pitch like Johan Santana whether he's your #1 or your #5. And just because Joe Blanton is the #1 in Oakland (until he gets traded) he all of a sudden isn't going to become the games most dominant pitcher.

It's only a concern because of the way it is being stated in the article. Had they said you'll notice a difference between pitching with a guy like Tim Hudson and Joe Nobody, I wouldn't have even thought twice about it.

Not trying to stir the pot, just a concern based soley on words.

            I'm sure it's ratings-based. I wouldn't worry about it.
Of course, if Dawson gets hot, and
            Sutcliffe comes through, and....
Pa, see what you did to me?

Yeah, I understand what your getting at Trev, but I think it's really just semantics. I'm sure that it is ratings based.

                Re: Hands-on at Gamespot

I really just have one question...

It says that we can use the same button-layout like last year's if we don't want to use the new pitching mechanic. I DO want to use the new pitching mechanic, however, I would like to use the old batting mechanic with buttons and using the left analog to direct the swing.

Is it possible in this year's game to use last year's batting mechanic (buttons and left analog) AND THIS year's pitching mechanic simultaneously? As in, when I bat, I can use last year's buttons and left analog and when pitching, I can use the new right analog pitching mechanic? Thanks!

Dude, you really think any game developer would be that stupid?

I'd put my life on betting that it's not like this. Don't worry.
