    Re: Hands-on at Gamespot

Take Two, listen to me very carefully.

I would speak about two things that no one has heard jack about:
ambiance and the create a player, assuming your company has anything to talk about in this regard.

I personally could mod your ambiance, for free mind you, and rock the end users face off. When I saw that minor league video, I admit, the crowd reactions sounded better. However, in my experience with the crowd reactions, I know given a little bit of time (very little if you're working off of a spreadsheet like mvp in the audiocsv.big file), I could make it an amazing experience. How do I know? I'm about to put out one for MVP Baseball, and it will be my final version, and it will melt your brains out. And I'm doing it for free. Listening to the ambiance, I *know* you can do better.

And for the depth of your create a player options, I'd like to hear more. I want to know if the variables in that mode are what comprises the rookies you draft, like they did in MVP. Are there only a small amount of options? Are all of my draft picks eventually going to look alike, or will there be so much depth that you will rock our faces off.

I keep reading about gameplay. But what else do you have? At this point in the game, I'm going to HAVE to go with gameplay and depth, and that means I may buy a PS3 just to get the show. And because I know little about RTTS, that appeals to me.

This is meant to be constructive criticism, not destructive. I know more can be brought to the table, and I almost dare you to employ the works of the modding community who would work for a ham sandwhich to put out a game that shakes it>. Rock on.

When the ring is inside the green circle, you let go of the analog stick altogether and let it return to center. This indicates your release timing, and the closer you are to the center, the better off you'll be. Your release timing will be very obvious in the pitch. If you release early, the pitch will go high; release late and your ball might go in the dirt.

Getting this three-step process down takes some practice, and you can expect be tossing some meatballs (or, indeed, beaning some batters in the dome as you work on the timing).
These two are huge for me, I do not want to see every messed up pitch being a meatball. We need to be able to throw more balls and have higher pitch counts in this year's game.

Its a shame 2k wont release this game for PC. That way modders like you could make up for their half-*** efforts.

comments like this really grind my gears. I seriously doubt the effort put into this game was half assed.

well i would say that using the same commentary for 5 yrs plus not so great sounding bat to ball contact along with poor crowd sounds could be interpreted as half***ed. That said i still think this yrs game will be excellent.

Not to mention the fact that it rains in retractable roofed stadiums and All Star Baseball for the Gamecube had a deeper franchise mode.

In retrospect, those very small features, compared to what has been fixed, cannot be CLOSE to being considered half-assed

Thats the point entirly. Very small features. Things that should be automatic in a Baseball game at this point. The devil is in the details and 2K doesnt seem to care about the details.

I like details too. I guess I am just much more concerned about the meat and potatoes though.

thats my main concern as well is good gameplay but still you would think it wouldn't have taken a lot of extra time to beef up the crowd sounds and bat to ball sound, this stuff really adds to a games long term playability.

Seriously I dont 2K is even making sense with the direction this year. They spend lord knows how many hours designing this new card system instead of rebuilding the franchise mode or expanding the commentary or improving the audio or working on other small details. Who here wouldnt take any of those things over the trading cards. Instead of listening to what the end user wants they are telling us what we want and thats a design for failure my friends.

the card system thing sounds more like something they added for younger kids in order to boost sales, certainly not to add to a sim experience.
