Bat Sounds, The SHow and other 'little' items...

    ________________________________________
Firstly, I own an XBOX 360 and I do not want to spend $399 + $59 for a game. There is nothing on the PS3 that is mildly attractive other then the Blu Ray player. However, I absolutely LOVE baseball... I've watched videos for both games and I've played MLB 08 The Show DEMO.

The bat sounds in MLB 2k8 are awful. IMHO, is it that difficult to get 'it' right? ex. MVP 05 on the PC has been modded in practically every area. There are 20 + bat sounds... its as easy as importing bat sounds over the current bat sound. I'm not that technical but I've modded bat sounds in MVP 05 that sound far superior to bat sounds I've heard in the MLB 2k8 movies...

MLB 08 The Show looks amazing. The color palette is dead-on and at moments of the game, it looks photo-realistic. The grass looks real, the dirt looks real, the players look real. They have really nailed the color palette. MLB 2k8 looks cartoonish compared to MLB 08 The Show and is just too darn colorful.

MLB 2k8 has too many spheres, circles, rectangles etc that distract from the game itself. I've watched 2 innings of game play and its really drains the immersion when a big sphere suddenly bocks the catcher and changes colors and... seriously... surely there is a better mechanism of displaying a pitch delivery then that. MVP 05 did it nicely and The Show keeps its simple, but affective.

I don't want to spend $458 + tax for a baseball game, but it means I don't have to deal with a bunch of geometric objects and awful bat sounds, then I might

I agree with you completely. Just by looking at the mounds for each game, you can see how cartoonish mlb 2k8 really is. The colour is dead on for The Show. I've played The Show's demo, I honestly want to believe that 2k8 will be just as good, but My gut tells me it won't be close.

PS. Major fault on 2k's part for not getting the demo out before or with The Show's. There's so many ppl converting just cause of this demo.

what i can't understand is why Brinkman would say a demo will be released in early feb. if they can't deliver, he would have been better off saying sometime in feb., i wonder what the holdup is?

I agree with you on the fact the 2k messed up not releasing a demo the same time at the show. I can see Sony's sales increasing in the next couple of months or so for this game. Those that were already on the fence about getting a PS3 are most likely going to do so now after seeing the Demo in action.

I fear the game is not where it needs to be... I hear rumors of a delayed release date, too. I wish MS would make a deal with Sony to release The Show on the 360. Just this once...

I wish I had such a disposable income to buy an entire gaming console for one game. I guess that is the degree of your baseball video game playing desires. Honestly, when it's all said and done MLB 2K8 will probably play a similar "SIM" game of baseball than MLB 08 The Show...who knows maybe better. Honestly, I never understood why anybody would do this...spend $500 bucks on a game just because the bat sounds are better, and they don't have a pitching meter similar to 2K8's.

To each his own, but bro honestly you can do better things w/ your money than blowing it on another console when you say you're only going to play one game on it.

Think of me as the good concious guy on your right shoulder. Don't let the OCD in you (The bad conscious guy) allow you to waste your money away.

BAM! That is me... Now that HD-DVD is dead I'm looking for a Blu Ray player. The cheapest one available is a PS3 at $399. The exclusive titles on the PS3 suck but The Show is the deal for me. Blu Ray + The SHow... nice.

Now if only the wife would listen to my reasonable argument...

I'm in the same boat. I'm a hockey fanatic first but I love baseball games too.
I've been seriously thinking about trading in my 360 for a PS3 just for the Show 08.
I've seen some vids for 2K8 and while it looks greatly improved, I just love the look, feel and gameplay of The Show.
Trust me when I say, if I can get an even swap for my 360 and 6 or so games for a PS3, I'll probably do it.
You might want to do the same if you're a giant baseball fan. Especially when you consider you can play both ball games on that console.

That's funny... I want to play Metal Gear 4 but don't want to have to purchase a PS3 to do it. Maybe I should make a thread complaining about my situation

if i buy a ps3 for the show it won't be just for this yr it will be for many more yrs down the road as well i think, just can't see 2k catching up in the sim department and really i don't think they have any plans to.

Especially, given the fact EA announced they expect PS3 sales to surpass the 360 this year. That tells me EA will dedicate themselves to the PS3 as they did with the PS2. As long as EA Sports puts more effort into the PS3, then its safe to make the switch. I will miss Mass Effect but thats it...

I think the 2K line behind Brinkman has a very bright future. But unless the guys from SCEA start taking hardcore drugs and only put in 1 hour a day, I don't see anyone taking their throne anytime soon.

Considering that I only play 2 games a year (hockey and baseball) making this switch makes sense.

Outside of these games I love the Rainbow 6 series - which is also available on the PS3.

The only thing holding me back is my love for boxing games. I would be kicking myself if PrizeFighter was the sim boxing game I've been craving and I traded in my 360. But at least I can play the VB series on the PS3. Those games are stellar.

Which is now being published by EA and will more than likely be ported to the PS3 in future versions.
