    Player & Team Ratings

(sounds like this may be old news, sorry for reposting... hadn't seen it yet)

I'm pulling this off of a Team X-Box thread, which is uncited, but I have no reason to believe it is made up. It could, so I apologize if the information is in any way false or if it's been posted already.

Who is the best in MLB 2K8? Albert Pujols and Johan Santana each check in with perfect 100 ratings, but that's not the whole story. Check below for a breakdown of each position.

    First Base
    1. Albert Pujols: 100
    2. Ryan Howard: 92
    3. David Ortiz: 92
    4. Lance Berkman: 90
    5. Mark Teixeira: 90
    6. Travis Hafner: 89
    7. Prince Fielder: 89
    8. Carlos Delgado: 88
    9. Paul Konerko: 88
    10. Todd Helton:88
    11. Justin Morneau: 88
    12. Derrek Lee: 88
    13. Jim Thome: 85
    14. Adrian Gonzalez: 84
    15. Mike Sweeney: 84
    16. Nick Swisher: 84
    17. Carlos Pena: 84
    18. Jason Giambi: 83
    19. Kevin Youkilis: 83
    20. Lyle Overbay: 82, Nomar Garciaparra: 82, Richie Sexson: 82, Nick Johnson: 82

Overrated/Underrated: How is Kevin Youkilis (.288, 16 homeruns, 83 RBI, .390 OBP) rated the same as Mr. Juice himself, Jason Giambi (.236, 14 homeruns, 39 RBI, .356 OBP in half a season)? And both of these guys are only one point behind Carlos Pena, a guy who slugged 46 homers, knocked in 121 runs, and had an OBP of .410. Also, Justin Morneau should be higher than guys like Konerko, Delgado, and Hafner.

    Second Base
    1. Chase Utley: 90
    2. Jeff Kent: 88
    3. Robinson Cano: 86
    4. Brandon Phillips: 82
    5. Dustin Pedroia: 82
    6. Ray Durham: 82
    7. Orlando Hudson: 82
    8. Dan Uggla: 82
    9. Brian Roberts: 81
    10. Jose Vidro: 80
    11. Tadahito Iguchi: 79
    12. Ian Kinsler: 78
    13. Mark Ellis: 78
    14. Jorge Cantu: 78
    15. Rickie Weeks: 78
    16. Jose Lopez: 77
    17. Howie Kendrick: 77
    18. Marcus Giles: 77
    19. Mark Grudzielanek: 77
    20. Ronnie Belliard: 76, Mark DeRosa: 76, Kazuo Matsui: 76, Luis Castillo: 76

Overrated/Underrated: How is Ray Durham and his eye-popping .218 average (not to mention an OBP of .295!) ranked the same as Orlando Hudson and his .294 average and .373 OBP, and ahead of Brian Roberts (.290 average, .376 OBP, 103 runs scored)? Does 2K take points away for being included in the Mitchell Report?

He's on the cover, of course he's the highest-rated shortstop.

    Shortstop
    1. Jose Reyes: 94
    2. Derek Jeter: 92
    3. Miguel Tejada: 90
    4. Michael Young: 89
    5. Jimmy Rollins: 88
    6. Carlos Guillen: 86
    7. Hanley Ramirez: 85
    8. Rafael Furcal: 85
    9. Troy Tulowitzki: 82
    10. Orlando Cabrera: 82
    11. Edgar Renteria: 81
    12. Jhonny Peralta: 80
    13. Omar Vizquel: 80
    14. Julio Lugo: 79
    15. Felipe Lopez: 78
    16. Stephen Drew: 78
    17. J.J. Hardy: 76
    18. David Eckstein: 75
    19. Alex Gonzalez: 74
    20. Juan Uribe: 73, Yuniesky Betancourt: 73, Cesar Izturis: 73, Bobby Crosby: 73, Jack Wilson: 73

Overrated/Underrated: After reading the Mitchell Report, is the Miguel Tejada trade by the Astros one of the dumbest of all time? What happens if he gets deported? Should he have two overall ratings, one with injections, one without? I'd take Rollins or Young over Tejada any day, in this game or in real life (and you don't even have to worry about the status of their green cards).

    Third Base
    1. Alex Rodriguez: 98
    2. David Wright: 94
    3. Miguel Cabrera: 93
    4. Chipper Jones: 90
    5. Aramis Ramirez: 88
    6. Troy Glaus: 86
    7. Ryan Zimmerman: 86
    8. Scott Rolen: 86
    9. Garrett Atkins: 85
    10. Eric Chavez: 84
    11. Mike Lowell: 84
    12. Chone Figgins: 83
    13. Ryan Braun: 82
    14. Mark Teahen: 82
    15. Joe Crede: 82
    16. B.J. Upton: 81
    17. Freddy Sanchez: 81
    18. Hank Blalock: 80
    19. Melvin Mora: 80
    20. Chad Tracy: 79, Edwin Encarnacion: 79, Adrian Beltre: 79, Aubrey Huff: 79

Overrated/Underrated: Eric Chavez rated higher than Mike Lowell has to based off name only. A-Rod's rating should drop 20 points if your franchise makes the playoffs.

    Left Field
    1. Manny Ramirez: 94
    2. Alfonso Soriano: 94
    3. Carl Crawford: 92
    4. Jason Bay: 90
    5. Matt Holliday: 90
    6. Carlos Lee: 89
    7. Hideki Matsui: 88
    8. Joe Young: 86
    9. Adam Dunn: 85
    10. Moises Alou: 85
    11. Raul Ibanez: 83
    12. Pat Burrell: 82
    13. Luis Gonzalez: 81
    14. Craig Monroe: 80
    15. Juan Rivera: 80
    16. Josh Willingham: 80
    17. Shannon Stewart: 79
    18. Matt Murton: 79
    19. Chris Duncan: 78
    20. Preston Wilson: 78, Scott Podsednik: 78, Emil Brown: 78

Overrated/Underrated: Matt Holiday might be one of the most underrated players in the game, even at 90. He put up monster numbers last year, including a .340 average, 36 home runs, 137 RBI, and an OBP of .405. How are there four players ahead of him on this list?

    Center Field
    1. Carlos Beltran: 94
    2. Ichiro: 93
    3. Grady Sizemore: 90
    4. Andruw Jones: 90
    5. Vernon Wells: 90
    6. Torii Hunter: 87
    7. Johnny Damon: 85
    8. Curtis Granderson: 85
    9. Mike Cameron: 83
    10. Eric Byrnes: 83
    11. Jim Edmonds: 82
    12. Bill Hall: 82
    13. Jacque Jones: 82
    14. Juan Pierre: 82
    15. Mark Kotsay: 82
    16. Aaron Rowand: 82
    17. Randy Winn: 82
    18. Hunter Pence: 81
    19. Chris Young: 80
    20. Rocco Baldelli: 79, Melky Cabrera: 79, David DeJesus: 79, Coco Crisp: 79

Overrated/Underrated: It's sad when the savior of the Giants is only rated an 82. Interesting note: Jacoby Ellsbury is only rated a 77 in the game, while the man he's replacing, Coco Crisp, is a 79. Wow.

    Right Field
    1. Vladimir Guerrero: 96
    2. Magglio Ordonez: 88
    3. Bobby Abreu: 88
    4. Ken Griffey Jr: 86
    5. Jermaine Dye: 86
    6. Gary Sheffield: 86
    7. Alex Rios: 85
    8. J.D. Drew: 83
    9. Jeff Francoeur: 82
    10. Shawn Green: 82
    11. Brian Giles: 82
    12. Nick Markakis: 82
    13. Andre Ethier: 81
    14. Brad Hawpe: 80
    15. Austin Kearns: 80
    16. Geoff Jenkins: 80
    17. Cliff Floyd: 80
    18. Shane Victorino: 80
    19. Delmon Young: 79
    20. Milton Bradley: 79

Overrated/Underrated: Seeing Ken Griffey's name makes me want to break out my N64 and play some Slugfest. Crazy how Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball was originally released on the SNES back in 1994 and Griffey is still the fourth highest rated player at his position 14 years later. Damn I feel old.

    Catcher
    1. Joe Mauer: 90
    2. Victor Martinez: 88
    3. Ivan Rodriguez: 87
    4. Brian McCann: 85
    5. Russell Martin: 85
    6. Jorge Posada: 84
    7. Kenji Johjima: 82
    8. Jason Varitek: 82
    9. Paul Lo Duca: 81
    10. Michael Barrett: 80
    11. Ramon Hernandez: 80
    12. Bengie Molina: 79
    13. Mike Piazza: 79
    14. Mike Lieberthal: 79
    15. Johnny Estrada: 77
    16. John Buck: 76
    17. Jarrod Saltalamacchia: 75
    18. Jason Kendall: 74
    19. A.J. Pierzynski: 73
    20. Josh Bard: 72

Overrated/Underrated: It seems like every year I hear something about how Jorge Posada is getting older and how he's on the downside of his career, then all he does is hit for .338, with 90 RBI, and an OBP of .426. Jason Varitek is one of the hardest players to rate because how do you give someone points for intangibles?

    Starting Pitcher
    1. Johan Santana: 100
    2. Roy Halladay: 94
    3. Jake Peavy: 93
    4. Roy Oswalt: 93
    5. Carlos Zambrano: 92
    6. Brandon Webb: 90
    7. Chris Carpenter: 90
    8. Josh Beckett: 90
    9. Felix Hernandez: 90
    10. Scott Kazmir: 89
    11. Ben Sheets: 89
    12. Chien-Ming Wang: 89
    13. Aaron Harang: 89
    14. Erik Bedard: 88
    15. John Lackey: 88
    16. C.C. Sabathia: 88
    17. Rich Harden: 88
    18. John Smoltz: 88
    19. Danny Haren: 88
    20. Francisco Liriano: 87, Tim Hudson: 87, Chris Young: 87, Dontrelle Willis: 87, Daisuke Matsuzaka: 87

Overrated/Underrated: Justin Verlander's not in the top 20? Neither is Brad Penny despite a 16-4 record. And it's crazy to see a videogame where Pedro Martinez and Randy Johnson aren't dominating from the mound; it looks like age and injuries have even caught up to their polygonal selves.

    Closer

    1. Billy Wagner: 94
    2. Francisco Rodriguez: 92
    3. Mariano Rivera: 92
    4. Jonathan Papelbon: 90
    5. Joe Nathan: 90
    6. Trevor Hoffman: 90
    7. Huston Street: 89
    8. Jose Valverde: 88
    9. J.J. Putz: 88
    10. Takashi Saito: 88
    11. Akinori Otsuka: 87
    12. B.J. Ryan: 87
    13. Brad Lidge: 86
    14. Chris Ray: 86
    15. Bobby Jenks: 86
    16. Chad Cordero: 86
    17. Jason Isringhausen: 86
    18. Francisco Cordero: 86
    19. Rafael Soriano: 84
    20. Manny Corpas: 84

Overrated/Underrated: Remember when the Astros thought Billy Wagner was replaceable? Interesting note: Mariano Rivera's 3.15 ERA is the highest of anyone in the top 10. Yet another player whose legendary name bumps him up in the ratings a little higher than he probably should be at this point in his career.

Here is how MLB 2K8 ranks the teams heading into the new season.

    1. New York Yankees
    2. Detroit Tigers
    3. Boston Red Sox
    4. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim
    5. New York Mets
    6. Los Angeles Dodgers
    7. Cleveland Indians
    8. Minnesota Twins
    9. Chicago Cubs
    10. San Diego Padres
    11. Toronto Blue Jays
    12. Atlanta Braves
    13. Philadelphia Phillies
    14. Tampa Bay Rays
    15. St. Louis Cardinals
    16. Colorado Rockies
    17. Chicago White Sox
    18. Milwaukee Brewers
    19. Cincinnati Reds
    20. Seattle Mariners
    21. Oakland Athletics
    22. Arizona Diamondbacks
    23. Houston Astros
    24. Baltimore Orioles
    25. San Francisco Giants
    26. Washington Nationals
    27. Pittsburgh Pirates
    28. Texas Rangers
    29. Kansas City Royals
    30. Florida Marlins
Again, my sincere apologies if any of this is innaccurate. Just lifting it from another site, though I have no real reason to believe it to be innaccurate. Also sorry if this has been posted or in the wrong forums.

I've seen this on another thread but I like this one because it has everything laid out in one quote. The last one involved a lot of clicking and loading.

These Ratings ARE HORRIBLE!! Where is Placido Polanco in the 2B Category. He had a great year last year. 2nd in the AL in Batting AVG, a error less season.

I hear ya. I looked at that list 5 times thinking I must have missed Polanco.

              Yeah, they've changed.

The Twins are now 14 after trading Johan, and a lot of the other ones are different too.

The Brewers went from 18th to 8th so i'm wondering if they changed the players ratings a little bit.

Whoever compiled that list probably just missed him entirely. If he wasn't in the top 20 2B with some of the guys who are, there's no way they could've missed pointing that out in the overrated/underrated section.

Either they changed ratings or these other people guessed totally. I can see the Twins going from 8th to 14th with the Johan trade, but some teams jumped up big time...

Ratings are based on 3 year stat averages. 85 is more than generous for him.

Igawa isn't starting this year so they immediately jump up several spots in the ratings.

They're the team to beat as long as Giambi at 1st doesn't ever touch the ball and Girardi never has to go to the pen.
