    NO HITTER!!!

I just threw my first no hitter in a 2K baseball game! Josh Beckett vs Kevin Millwood 4-0 win. The game is tied until the 7th inning where I get manny to second on a double and Mike Lowell drives him in with a double. Next inning I crank a two run bomb with Pedroia 3-0. The top of the ninth I crank a hit to the left center gap bringing in another run 4-0. In the mean time I hadn't even realized until the commentators mentioned it, that I have a no hitter going! Bottom of the ninth 2-2 count, I throw the pitch and it is smoked to 2nd, Pedroia lays out to save it and make the out at first, I win with a no hitter! The celebration at the end is very cool. One thing I also noticed is that, earlier in that game I was thrown out as a manager. The CPU warmed up a pitcher to come in but because of my no hitter didn't. I thought for sure that the CPU manager was going to bring in the pitcher and screw me over with the no hitter. I think that's really cool now that the CPU manager has some AI of their own. Overall one of the best games I have played.

I'm going to kill myself if you tell me you did this with the R stick pitching. I'd be happy to keep the CPU under 20 hits.

Ya, I used the new pitching method. It's only on Pro though.

so after you threw the no hitting, what happened, did the guy just walked back to the dugout? Did the announcers acknowledge it?

The announcers acknoledged it and actually sounded alive when they announced that I had done it. The cutscene was of Varitek running towards Beckett and holding him up by the butt as the rest of the team jumped around them. Then he let Beckett down and they had sort of a team jump together and walked to the dugout to the applause of the crowd.

he just said the announcer even mentioned the no hitter during the game, so i'm not sure why theres such negative assumption going on.

              EDIT: see?

Yeah, they actually recognized no hitters in 2K7 too. Not surprised it's still in there since the commentary never changes, hehe.

Dude, the new pitching interface is just so damn sweet. I bet it feels 100 times more rewarding tossing that no hitter knowing you had to actually pull off every pitch yourself.

I'd like to throw a game without being outscored by 15 runs. I guess my reflexes are growing old like i am. Congrats on the no-hitter!

                        Re: NO HITTER!!!

Bowler, way to go with the no-no. I have a question for you based on the stamina issue I have had with Becks. I can spot pitches, throw nasty stuff, and dominate the game (All-Star Level) until about the 5th inning, and then the wheels fall off the truck and soon there is a bloodbath for which there is no return. I watch that wWinners Projection thing go from way up high to dropping like the Mariana Trench. So, using the R-stick pitching, do you go all the way to the outermost ring for the effectiveness meter, thereby cranking up all the fastballs, full snap on a curveball, etc... or, do you pull back a little from the outer edge, and just wait until you get to the first ring of effectiveness, and concentrate on the gesture and release? My problem is that by the 5th inning, I have worked Becks too hard, and he is on like 45% and starts to get shelled. Please give me your thoughts on your pitching style as far as the effectiveness, and how you manage his stamina. Also, when you get a minute, play the same team with the same settings, but go to All-Star and see how you fare. Did you buy the Scouting report from Inside Edge? Does Tek help you call a better game with those tendencies in place?

                          Re: NO HITTER!!!

I generally monitor their stamina carefully. I come out of the game throwing full snap curveballs and really grooving the fastball in. As the game advances I tend to just go to the begninning of the threshold etc and widdle it down. When I have to get lower than that, I replace the pitcher. So basically watch where their stamina is and finesse it until you can bring in a new pitcher. I don't buy inside edge reports generally, but I will for you when I play the game you asked me to. As for what I do with Tek, I generally will use his calls as a guideline and usually work some different pitches into each at bat. I will go and play the game you wanted me to with the inside edge and report back once I am done with this game.
