The new pitching is actually pretty awesome.

At first I hated this game, and yes, it still has some annoying bugs...

but, I have finally figured out the pitching and, man, it's awesome.

It took me about 3 or 4 games of getting shelled and frustrated...

Then last night, I decided to turn off the classic pitching, and go back to the new pitching mechanic....

I played a AAA game with the SWB Yankees, and Kei Igawa threw 6 innings, gave up 4 runs, 1 homerun, and 2 walks, and had like 5 strikeouts. A reasonable outing, and definitely felt better.

I decided to try it out in the majors next, and got a little discouraged when I gave up a bomb in the first inning of my next game with Ian Kennedy against the indians, but I hung in there and eventually lost 5-4...only gave up 1 homerun

This morning, before work, I played again, and won 5-4, giving up no homeruns and getting an achievement for "keeping the ball down." It was fun, and I cant wait for lunch to play it some more.

I still have trouble with the knuckle curve, but I love throwing cutters and changeups.

I SUCKED when I first pitched, but after figuring it out using the in-game tutorial, I do pretty good now. I strike out guys buy setting them up, and making pretty good pitches. It is one of the first times in years since the introduction of meter pitching (which is getting a little old for me now) in which I have had a blast pitching. Definitely fun. My biggest problem with the game now is that the CPU still throws too many strikes. Hopefully, I can find the right slider tweaks. I am going to try BigFnJoes. Also, I had to turn of analog fielding because I couldn't get routine double plays.

Add a bit of realism to your game by using the Pitch Tutorial to "warm up" your relievers when they come into the game. Whenever I bring a new guy into the game, I give myself the same 8 warm up pitches that they get in real life. This lets me run through any specialty pitches that the relievers may have, and get used to the cadence of their rhythm before I throw to a live batter. Kind of cool that the tutorial lets you mimic the warm up.

Hell yes, I've been doing the same exact thing.

Doesn't stop me from getting shelled everytime I bring in a new pitcher, but at least I feel like I have a chance to test out a new P before being thrown to the wolves.

              GREAT IDEA!

I can't throw the slider, I get it right maybe 2 out of 10 times. I am always pulling the stick to far up so it computes as bad curveball... Which btw is kinda realistic.

Yeah, the gesture system is pretty darn forgiving, but if you have two similiar pitches and one wants only a half circle.......you'd better make sure that's all you're doing. The good news, I suppose, is you don't get many meatballs with those pitches, it just registers as the other pitch.

One thing I've really started to notice about the system that I love...

If you follow what the catcher calls for the most part (which will be your pitchers best pitches) and get used to those pitches during the early part of a game it's actually difficult to throw a curveball or slider that you don't usually throw w. those pitchers.

I was playing a game with Pettitte last night and throwing mostly FB/Cut/Slider and I tried to start throwing his curveball in the 5th inning and butchered it twice leading to a double and a frozen rope single because my gesture/timing was awful.

I'll incorporate that into my franchise when I start it. Get the 8 warm up pitches and then hide the pitch menu. The only thing I wish is that we could still see our gesture rating w/o the full pitch menu.

I'm finally getting used to the new pitching as well, but you really have to dial that slider down a lot at first, or every other pitch is a meatball.

Also, during the time I gave up for a while and went back to classic, the pitching is a lot more realistic and challenging this year in general. Those outside fastballs on the lower corners and most sliders in the zone will get crushed. No gimme pitches this year.

BTW: Does anyone know how to keep the strike zone on-screen while pitching this year?

I love the new pitching as well. I've got sliders and curves down pretty well, but for me the hardest pitch is either a cutter or a 2-seam fastball. It's the motion where you down then up and diagonally right or left, oh man, I don't think I've ever had a gesture better than a 92 on those pitches.

Those are definitely the trickier motions, but 92 is still a very good score. Does anyone know what the gesture score relates to in terms of what the ball really does?
