This happened to me every time when I first got the game, I've learned that it doesn't happen when you let the meter reach the first circle of the gesture. It hasn't happened since. This isn't a glitch, it's practice you guys need at the pitching system.

Im gonna put this link out because this guy describes it pretty good. For me i can get around it by making the first pitch gesture twice, but it will NEVER work for Derrick Turnbow no matter what i do, i don't get it. I Almost have to trade him which i hate doing but its impossible.
That's the guy I had the problem with. The only time I've seen it.

yea that link does a good job describing it
here is the strange thing, so (for a FB) if i go down and it keeps expanding to max effectiveness, and i release it perfectly and i look at last pitch, it shows my gesture as only up, it didnt recognize my first gesture at all, however it still gives me a 90+ rating. Makes no sense. The same is true for all my pitches, which does make some sense as to why its not stopping the effectiveness, my first motion is not recognized at all.

          edit:

I understand the issue now. Ignore.

This is without a doubt a glitch. It has been happening to me since I got the game and is beyond frustrating. Doesnt matter if it is a starter or reliever and it comes in spurts.

Happens about 3 spurts a game.

So about 20 bad pitches a game.

I actually haven't had this happen to me in a while. I don't think it has happened in the last five games. I don't think it just went away. Maybe I am just getting better at pitching, or maybe it just happens in certain circumstances that I haven't run into in a while?

                Re: Pitching with runners on.

ok so i have finally gotten to the bottom of this
now hopefully this will work for everyone else experiencing this issue as well, but i obviously cant promise anything
ok so i had someone else who owns this game help me figure this out by explaining to me what he was doing. So yes after blaming the game and being convinced it was a glitch i relent that it was in fact user error. Despite my belief that i knew how to pitch, i obviously didnt. So when pitching out of the stretch you HAVE to stop the effectiveness in between the 2 white circles, or else you will pitch with max effectiveness. Looking back i now see what other posters were trying to explain to me, however with all the moving parts in this pitching system and no visual diagram it was a little difficult to comprehend. So with that fixed my next question was why does it work the same way with any relief pitcher i was bringing in, man on base or not. The obvious answer which i knew and didnt put together is the relievers pitched out of the stretch the whole time, men on base or not. So while yes i will admit i was wrong about it being a glitch, i still dont fully understand the reasoning behind letting you stop the effectiveness anywhere when pitching from the windup and changing that when you pitch from the stretch. Regardless i am just happy to be able to enjoy this game again and hopefully this can "fix" anyone else having problems. Thanks for everyone who tried to work through this and figure out wtf was going on.

If only 2K could have somehow let us know in some way that this is how the system worked...if only there was some sort of pamphlet that came with the game that explained how the new controls worked...if only.

For crying out loud how hard is it to completely update the damn instructions, especially when you are including a new pitching system, new hitting system and new defensive control scheme with new throwing system. I would guess it would take the better part of 1/2 to 1 full day.

This of couse assumes this was 2K's intent to begin with.

couldnt agree more, or at the very least one of those video tutorials madden and other games do, certainly would have saved me a few hours of frustration

I think the only time I noticed this was after I plunked a batter. Not sure if it's because a reliever was not warmed up or what. But I have only had it happen a couple times.

My guess it that this represents high stress pitches. When pitchers have runners on, it is usually high stress pitches, and they drain a pitcher. Making you use high "effectiveness" pitches drain your stamina.

Its a definite glitch & the only way to work around it is to do the first gesture twice. For ex. On a fastball, you press down, let go & press down again & continue to press up for second gesture. Works everytime for me when it glitches but it should be fixed.

yeah it's a glitch, like i said try Derrick Turnbow and you will see you have no control whatsoever. It doesn't happen to everyone either i had capuano pitching with me on first and third out of the stretch(a high stress situation in the late innings) and he was fine. You can bring turnbow or any other reliever that pitches out of the stretch in the first inning warmed up with no one of base and it will still glitch.
