CAn someone give me a breakdown

Of the Show vs this game. I will preface this by saying THIS IS NOT MEANT TO START A FLAME WAR.

I'm actually just looking for a reason to buy this game, and people who like both games and can give me positives and negatives. I dont have a ps3 so this is my only option. If it sucks compared to the show i'm not going to waste my time. If there are people who actually like it better I might.

I also will say I'm more about gameplay, fun factor. The glitches I figure will be fixed in a patch so that doesn't bother me so much.

Re: CAn someone give me a breakdown

As an owner of both, I find myself playing 2k8 much more then the Show. I am in no way shape or form saying The Show is not good, it's definetly an unbelievable baseball game. My only gripe is I have been playing The Show series for quite sometime now and aside from the beautiful graphics this year, its ultimately the same game from its previous versions. Mostly this being the fielding, pitching, and batting. I can honestly say, if you can see past the frame rate issues with 2k8, obviously it will be fixed in the near future, the game play rocks. The fielding is by far the most fun I had playing in a baseball game. The right analog and meter really add to the game. Same goes for pitching. Once you really get a handle on how to throw the pitches, it adds to the intensity of the game. One little mistake in gesture on a 2-2 pitch with a runner on, tied at the bottom of the 9th, the AI will really get a hold of the ball. On the graphics department, 2k8 can't shake a stick at the Show. But then again, I have always been one for game play over graphics.

If I were you, I would read both the impressions threads. I know it is a lot of reading, but it will give you more information than any one poster in this thread.

I hear you. The thing is I have and it's hard to tell if people are just saying they love this game because they haven't played the show, and they just need their baseball fix, or they just dont like this game because of the glitches. The consensus it seems is the show is better graphically but some people seem to really love this game, so I can't really tell. Other people are buying a ps3 just to play the show, which I'm not doing. I would have done that when i was younger but that's just silly for one game that may or may not be better. Some people seem really happy with this game saying it's the best baseball game ever. Other people think it completely sucks. It just seems like there is too much disparity in opinion to get a good read on how this game really is.

I will say one thing, the new pitching, batting and field interface intrigues me about this game because I am looking for something different. Which game has a higher fun factor and realism when it comes to the fielding, batting and pitching?

Just play the demos then. I have 2k8 (360 owner), and I like the game. I really enjoy the controls, and with sliders I can get a pretty realistic game in. The game does need a patch for CPU steals and a framerate. There is a work around for the framerate issue, but you have to sign out of the profile to do it. 2k has stated that this will be patched. The controls are very engaging and innovative. This game has its flaws, but overall, I am happy with it. Given the issues, I wouldn't recommend this game to others until they play the demo or rent it. Give it a try before you buy it.

In terms of something new brought to the plate, I would give 2k8 the 1 up for fielding, pitching, and batting on the fun factor. Fielding is great with the new aerial field view(every baseball game should have this camera view), you can overthrow, under throw very easily and adds an extra edge to fielding. Pitching is something you really have to learn and be accurate with, and batting you can actually choose what part of the field you want to hit with it.

Thx Driz. You seem to be saying what I wanted to hear. I'm all about gameplay. I've been playing these games forever and they are all the same after a while. I'd rather play a game that does something different and keeps the realism I guess is the point. Graphics aren't really that important to me. The glitches are annoying and unacceptable but I'm hoping they patch this.

This is why I don't listen to initial reactions and reviews when it comes to these games, because so many people are about flash and graphics and instant gratification, and dont take the time to figure these games out and try something new. Those are the rewarding sports games imo, and how i remember the best ones i played back in the day where i wouldnt like it at first and then id learn it and i wouldnt want to play anything else.

Is this a game I would like over the show considering that?

Re: CAn someone give me a breakdown

Well i can't take anything away from the Show because it does play a great baseball game. My choice for 2k8 was because of the new control scheme that they came up with along with their new camera views. I got hooked!! It's not that 2k8 is the better overall game, they just came up with a fresh idea on how to change up the way baseball is played ( via analog controls) on a next gen game instead of your typical throw to first by pressing "B", second "Y", and the same for pitching. I am thorougly enjoying the new hitting system as well. When you hit a HR or a nice drive, you really have to time your step perfectly. You know you get a hold of it when you time it right. I was a big fan of High Heat because of how great that game played. Game play is everything for me, and if a game comes out with something new that works, then I'm there. Surely play the demo first to get a feel for how the game plays. I'm pretty sure you will not be dissapointed

Here's what I would say...since you don't have a PS3 anyway, and you already said you wouldn't buy one for The Show, then the issue is whether or not to get 2K8. I would rent it, and if you like it, buy it. 2K8 isn't as horrible as many make it out to be, it's just not the best option (my opinion, of course). If you love baseball, then you'd definitely be better with 2K8 than nothing at all. The controls are fun (pitching and fielding anyway) and with adjustments plenty of people like the way it plays.

This is the way I see it. I think they are both very good games. Imo, for my money The Show is the best baseball game I have ever played. It's got the goodness of great graphics with gameplay that reminds me of another all-time fave, High Heat. Not to mention RTTS mode is ridiculously addicting and fun.

That being said, if I was a 360 only owner (I have both systems and both games), I'd be plenty happy with 2k8 being my baseball game for the year. I find it to be a fun, and engrossing game with a cool control scheme and I love the card collecting.

While I think the Show is easily the superior game, I don't think you can go wrong with either game. I think you'll be plenty happy with 2k8 if you are not a PS3 owner, and don't want to purchase a PS3.

Bk, you seem to be spot on with this analysis. I don't have a PS3, so, I can't compare "The Show" with 2k8.

The only thing I can compare with 2k8 is 2k7, and I feel that 2k8 blows 2k7 out of the water game play wise. I'm an old HH player myself and for me, it was always game play. Anyone that played HH on the PC, knew the presentation wasn't there, but the game play was very good.

Most of the internet community knew(except for the framerate, inexecusabe)what they were getting with 2k8. Intuitive gameplay features. It was stated that there was no new Morgan and Miller commentary, so, a buyer knew that presentation was lacking.

I'm going to pick this game up in about 10 minutes. I tried holding off but I need my baseball fix. Anyone want to talk me out of it? I'm not purchasing a ps3 to play the show.

I've been thinking about picking it up since it came out, and I'm scared about the framerate issues.

I think I'm going to give in and buy it tonight. does the demo have framerate issues too so I can see it?

Re: CAn someone give me a breakdown

I got it notque. Played 1 game.

-The frame rate issues are a little annoying. It's not that big a deal to me. IT's noticeable, but the game is definately playable, and the patch is supposed to fix this.

-It didn't take me long to figure out the new controls. Played 1 game on pro kc vs baltimore all the way through 9 innings.. I won 2-1. Meche pitched 7.1 innings, 5 k's. Gobble had .2 innings and a hold and 1 k and soria closed it out. I had 5 hits baltimore had 2. I had 1 walk, baltimore had none. Still going to be hard to get realistic pitch counts and walks per usual.

-I like the assortment of hits, more foul balls it seems, less hrs, and fielding seems more randomized as well.

-The fielding cameras seem better. The fielders seem smaller adn cant climb the wall like king kong and grab every hr like last year.

-The graphics aren't that great. Probably an improvement in areas over 2k7, more of the same in others, and worse in others. The presentation and menus are more of the same and ok I guess.

I didn't notice all these glitches with the game that people are talking about minus the framerates. It seemed to play a solid game of baseball. It's an improvement over 2k7 and more of the same at the same time. Nothing really revolutionary but it improves on last years game. They need to patch the framerates but I think they will.

I'd say its a solid game and about a 7.5 when they do, but it's still good and underrated imo. It seems to me like a good baseball game. It played really well out of the box as far as difficulty for my first game. The tutorials were nice as well and got me right into the game.

To be honest every sports game ive played this year would probably get a 7.5. MAdden, NBA 2k8, All pro football. They all have problems and are all the same. I haven't played the show but this game is right there with the rest of the sports games. The reviewers just bashed it because of the framerates and because of the show imo.
