Need Help 2k or The Show....
I want to buy a baseball game but I do not know which one to get. I have in the past stayed with 2k because of the realism feel to the game. However, I have read that a lot of people are having serious issues with 2k. If 2k does have issues are they ones that do not undermind the real feel of the game?Tags: None -
Re: Need Help 2k or The Show....
Why not just rent both? That way you'll have a better comparison of the two.
On the 360 (don't have a PS3) IMO,the gameplay is pretty good. There are alot of different slider sets to give you a foundation of which to start.
Speaking only from a 360 point of view....the biggest issue,is the framerate. Which 2k has acknowledged, and are issuing a patch,as well as there is a workaround till the patch is released.Last edited by Kramer5150; 03-26-2008, 05:00 PM.People are for reviews if it backs their argument, and against them when they don't.“I believe the game is designed to reward the ones who hit the hardest – If you can’t take it, you shouldn’t play!” Jack Lambert“Quarterbacks should wear dresses.” Jack Lambert -
Re: Need Help 2k or The Show....
I own both, the show on ps3 and 2k on the 360. Both games have their strengths. I prefer 2k overall because the game play, especially fielding and pitching. I also became addicted to the new pitching in 2k. 2k has frame rate issues but, it's not a big a deal as some people are making it out to be. The graphics in the show are amazing and I didn't have any problems with online play. The fielding in the show is just awful. I feel like the show is for kids and 2k is for die hard baseball fans. I'm sure plenty of people will disagree, just my opinion.Comment

Re: Need Help 2k or The Show....
Honest opinion?
I owned 2k8, got tired of trying to make it play a sim game of baseball. Thought about actually getting a PS3, then I heard about some of the stat bugs and the exhaustion meter dropping to quickly.
If you have a ps3 and don't care about the stats, I would say the show. It's the closest thing to real baseball, but it isn't perfect.
If you only have a 360, I would say save your money and go find a copy of MVP 05. Thats what I did.Comment

Hasn't there already been several threads asking this question? Amazingly you feed right into it, which will surely turn into another 2k vs. the show thread. Geez, some of you never learn.Originally posted by jim416You are the 2k Police. :)Comment

Re: Need Help 2k or The Show....
My bad, I wasn't saying you were starting something, it just gets frustrating to read the same things over and over again. I recently purchased 2k8 and I'm just trying to get down the basics like the hitting and pitching and I have heard many good things about the show but for once I would like to hear honest comments about both without the biased arguments that these types of thread eventually turn into.Originally posted by jim416You are the 2k Police. :)Comment

If it turns into a "2k8 vs the show" thread, then the mods will deal with it accordingly.

TBH....The show doesn't matter to me. I enjoy 2k8...and in the end that's all that matters....what I enjoy.People are for reviews if it backs their argument, and against them when they don't.“I believe the game is designed to reward the ones who hit the hardest – If you can’t take it, you shouldn’t play!” Jack Lambert“Quarterbacks should wear dresses.” Jack LambertComment

The guy asked a legitimate question....I didn't "feed" into anything.I gave my honest thoughts on the game.

This I agree with.

Same here. I'm enjoying 2k8 a lot, as it seems much better than last years version, especially the hitting. I love the graphics and the framerate issue is not a problem for me. I don't know that I could play two baseball games and I don't own a ps3 but I'm tempted to buy one just to play the show for myself but that would be crazy I guess.Originally posted by jim416You are the 2k Police. :)Comment

I have 2K8 for 360, and THe Show on PS2, and I am enjoying the Show much more right now. We will see once the patch comes out. I have high hopes it will make 2K8 playable.Comment

With the sliders I've been using,I'm getting very good games.
The only problem I have with the graphics,is I was hoping for more players that looked like themselves in real life. But it in no way detracts from the fun I'm having with the game.
I thought about picking up a PS3 later down the line, but I'm in no hurry.
Why do you feel it's headed that way? you seem to be the only one that thinks that.People are for reviews if it backs their argument, and against them when they don't.“I believe the game is designed to reward the ones who hit the hardest – If you can’t take it, you shouldn’t play!” Jack Lambert“Quarterbacks should wear dresses.” Jack LambertComment

Re: Need Help 2k or The Show....
So what if it turns into a 2K vs The Show debate if it is of any substance. Some people want to make an educated decision.
I have both the Show and 2K8 on the 360. Don't even bother with 2k if you plan to buy it for the PS3 because the frame rate ought to be illegal. When will these hacks learn to program on the darn PS3.
But, 2k8 on the 360 plays a fun game of baseball. The worse problem in my opinion with the game is that the CPU throws way too many strikes unless you turn it way down in the sliders. That slider doesn't work as well as it should.
The Show is a beautiful, fun game of baseball. It has a few problems, but is pretty darn good. The worse part for me is the monotonous pitching meter. I actually like the new 2K8 pitching using the right analog stick. But (2k8) there should be more balls and less meatballs when you don't get your pitch down correctly.
I guess if I had to pick one game however, I would go with the Show.Comment

What is your position you hold at 2K sports?
To answer the original poster's question, 2K8 is one of the worst sports games ever released. The Show is phenominal and there's NO reason for someone with a PS3 to buy 2K8 instead. Hell, I sold my 360 to buy a PS3 solely because of how poor 2K8 is.Comment
