sorry if I sound like a nub, but what r sliders? Also, should I get this game if all im going to do is play on xbox live with it? Is it really THAT bad online? I seem to have no trouble with any other games on xbox live. thanks 4 the replies.

Sliders are various difficulty settings that you can tweak to fine tune the gameplay to suit your style and expectation. You can use them to either make things easier or more difficult for yourself or the CPU. There are various gameplay aspects that can be tweaked with the sliders. Although, you should know that some of the sliders in the game appear to have absolutely no impact. You just cant tell a difference between a setting of zero or 100!!!

IMO, post patch, the game plays no differently online. It still suffers from incredibly bad lag that makes pitching and batting extremely difficult. It's still doable but you have to swing the bat before the pitcher throws the ball when batting for example. When using the new pitching mechanic (right thumbstick) lag will cause you to throw a boat load of meatball pitches. I played a guy a few weeks back and we had like 12 homeruns between the both of us and the final score was 22 to 17 (or something close to that).

Some people may have better experience than this online but for me it's excrutiatingly bad!!!

Yes, it currently is THAT bad online. The amount of lag in the pitcher/batter interface borders on unplayable and at the very least makes the game a lot less fun & realistic. Since you have to swing so early, you cannot judge the pitch type/location too well, resulting in a ton of ugly swings. While pitching, it is very difficult to stop the pitch meter when you need to, so you'll see a lot of 'meatballs' and wild pitches. On top of all of this, there are no online settings for custom games or leagues, so you cannot adjust settings to your liking.

Needless to say, unless another patch comes out that fixes the online lag, this game does not warrant a purchase if you are strictly an online gamer. What's really puzzling is that 2K7 played fairly well online; I remember having some great games with my brother-in-law last year. We could be patient at the plate, draw walks and pitch realistically. I wonder what happened?

With all the negative things I've said about 2K8's online performance, I feel it is only fair to say that I do actually enjoy the game offline against the CPU (and the game or two I played 2P the old-fashioned way). Once you find settings/sliders that you're comfortable with, it doesn't play a bad game of baseball. There are some flaws to be sure, but it does more things well than it does poorly (I think )...

Hmmmm.... Playing the game with a handful of friends without seeing what you're saying. If it was bad for everyone as you're making it sound, folks wouldn't show the volumes played in their gamertag records.

To the person asking for the opinion, all I recommend is try it for yourself. You might have many successful games without an issue. Not everyone is seeing the issue.

If you're at full ping there is considerably less lag but there are still moments where it can't catch up. I'm one of those that has experienced an unplayable online game and wondered how so many people have so many completed games under those conditions.

My friend and myself both disconnected our routers and went directly into the modem and we both experienced a much cleaner game. Not perfect and still lagged but it was actually playable and we managed to have a good time and completed 2/3 games.

I recommend plugging directly into a modem to increase you connection.

I'm not sure, since I've only had my xbox for a few months, but if you're signed on to Live, and you start a game up... you should be prompted to download the patch. If you don't, then I guess it doesn't work on Silver...

Finally downloaded some rosters and started my franchise this weekend. Still some things that bother me about this game.

1. Some games are just too dark.. doesn't look right to me, especially vs last year where I thought the lighting was perfect.

2. Still too many hr's. I know some hitters can take low fastballs out of the park.. but I'm seeing way too many. Almost feels like the game is scripted somewhat. That's one thing I do love about The Show.. hits seem much more realistic.

3. The slow jog and sometimes almost stopping when OF's catch for sure out pop flys.. really looks weird.

4. I hate the no suspense HR's. As soon as the camera pans to that low view you know it's a goner.

5. The game just doesn't flow smoothly.

6. It's funny how you turn off the ticker and it still shows updates.


There is alot to like about the game, but after finally really getting some playing time this weekend, I still think 07 had so much going for it, that they might have changed too much.

Great job to 2k sports for the new pitching and throwing mechanisms, I REALLY do like both of them. I hate saying this so early.. but I can't wait to see how it might? all come together next year.

Does anyone know anything about the title update or second patch? I've been waiting to enjoy online play for weeks now. Rumor was two weeks away nearly a month ago.

I don't mind tweaking a few things.. but so far, I'm still VERY far away and for me, it gets to a point where too much tweaking kills a game for me.

I'm still going to try some settings from the slider forum before giving up though.

I'm still playing 2k8 some.. but I just traded in some old games and picked up a slim psp and The Show. Wow.. might not play 2k8 for awhile.
