I think your missing the point and I really don't want to waste the thread on this, but 0 power doesn't mean everyone and their uncle hits a homer. I haven't heard you say that you are having problems with any other home run issues. If Manny and Pappi are taking you yard welcome to the bigs. That's life. Reality. That's what they do.

If you are complaining about getting realistic results, it sounds as though you're getting them. What is your version? 0 ppower equals all weak dribblers that let me win every game? That's a joke. Power at 0 should mean powert hitters get the knocks. If their rating on power is at 100 (as individual player) no matter what your slider is set to, that guys is gonna hit a homer. Not every time, but in his hot zone, sure, in the wheel house most definetly.

I believe by adjusting that slider it affects the percentage of chance a player has of hitting a homer somehow also factored into their player rating. Therefore, setting at zero takes out the"multiplier" of player rating giving you the true skill of ewach player. Power slider at 100 "multiplies" a player chances of hitting homer by x amount. So you wil see more homers than normal by not only Pappi but Omar Vizquel and David Eckstien.

The sliders are all realitive and relate in formula to a players individual rating. There is no slider in this game, I believe, that will stop homeruns entirely. Because in the game of baseball, people hit homers. And some players are better than others.

That will conclude my addition to this disagreement. There is nothing left to add. If you don't buy into it, than go on your merry way and curse the game, I will continue to enjoy.

    Have a great day.

Holy words in mouth! Never said any of that. I assumed this forum was different than 2k. I'm pretty sure we were having a discussion. You want to play the right wrong game feel free. I was trying to explain to you what I was trying to say. Sorry you are so easily offended and take conversation so personally. Never did I say you were wrong, and by no means am I a 2k lover. The game has issues clearly, but my only choice for gameplay.

Manny should be hitting hard ground balls or line drives past the infield on a meat pitch with the Power slider at 0.
Couldn't agree more and one of my beefs with the gameplay.

I think this statement is walking a fine line.

A fastball down the middle should never be a "guaranteed bomb" to anyone. Whether it's Bonds, Griffey or Fielder, these guys still make outs more time than not. Some times it's because they chase a bad pitch, sometimes it's because their swing is slightly off, sometimes it's because their timing is slightly off.

Should these guys make you pay more often than average and below average hitters? I think so, but if I throw 10 meatballs to Manny and he hits 9 or 10 HR's, that's tilting the scale too far to the other side. Watch these guys in BP before a game and they will hit their fair share of grounders, lazy flys and pop ups.

Watch in a game how many times you see these guys pop up and throw the bat or curse themselves because they know that they just missed their pitch.

I don't know what the optimal number is, but regardless of who the hitter is it should never be always, but also never be never.

The one thing we don't know for sure, but you may have a better idea than I do, is what 0 means for this and all sliders. Is it 0% or does it really only cut it down by 50%, 60% or 70% or something to that effect?

I agree with your point that at 0 you should see dramatically less HR's than at 50 or 100, but am not sure if the programmers intended this to mean no HR's or just slightly less HR's. Until we learn exactly how their scale works, there is a lot of interpretation to be made.

Maybe with a meatball, the slider is overridden and their true power takes place....another reason that the meatball needs to be ditched.

I just threw meat pitches to Ortiz: he had 3 Hr's out of 10 AB's, including 3 groundballs, 3 flyballs and a K. That's pretty realistic I think.

I still say though that he shouldn't be hitting any HR's with Power at 0. But I have my Contact slider at 100, and I know the higher Contact is, the more loft. Which is why players in 2K8 with high Contact/low Power can still hit a lot of HR's.

Again, that's with Power 0, Skill 15 and Contact 100. I'll just add that IMO a partial solution to compensate for the goofy meat pitch programming is to keep Power and Skill down, and raise Contact.

I'll just add that a partial solution to eliminating the goofy meat pitch programming IMO is to keep Power and Skill down, and compensate by raising Contact.
                I agree.

The frustrating thing is that the pitching interface is so freakin fun and I really love nailing a pitch. They should definitely keep it because it is a great and innovative pitching mechanism that makes the 2K experience special. This meatball thing is a major annoyance and needs to be scrapped.

The sliders just don't work enough, and that's the bottom line. If you have take pitch at 0, the CPU should take pitches. If you have power at 0, you shouldn't see too many jacks.

Having played High Heat for years, I know how well sliders can help a game. You'd see tangible results when you changed those sliders. That's not true in this series.

I hope that 2K doesn't get lazy and pull an EA because it looks like 2K8 will still outsell the competition.

It's just too bad because they inherited so much crappy code. I'm done with console baseball now, I'm perfectly content with text-based sims now and don't see myself going back unless I'm wowed.

I am not in disagreement with what you are saying, and I never said for the record that every meatball should be a homer. But, the likelyhood of a good power hitter to drive the meatball is much higher than that of your average player. I think the results baa just posted is what I would expect from a realistic experience.
My Friend Chris owns me in 2k8. Seriously, I suck.

I don't disagree, but I guess this is up to the interpration of the development team. I guess if you look at a pitch speed slider or OF arm slider, it makes a little more sense as it would be rediculouse to have pitch speed at 0 and have the ball drop straight to the ground out of the pitchers hand (though it would be comical). Or if power at 0 truely meant no power, then balls that made contact, at most, would be swinging bunts.

I think they kind of need to limit the decrease a slider could have on certain aspects. If 0 power prevented David Ortiz from hitting HR's, what would it do to Jason Kendall?

I would prefer the sliders to be more of expectations. Instead of 0-100 for power, how about 0-65 and the number you choose would be an average for how many HR's you would expect your hitter to hit in a given year. Or for strike outs 0-300, where each tick is a movement of 5 or 10 K's.

It would be much easier to tweak things if it was this simple, but instead we get numberless bars.
