Re: Just popped in 2k7 after a game of 2k8 &

I can give The Show:06 (PS2), and MLB The Show:08 (PS3) good titles.
While 07 was good there still was a hefty amount of glitches and PS2 graphics. That was as big of a kill as MLB 2k8.
I remember the cover with Vlad Guerrero on it (PS2) that game was awful to me.
2K's track record is not hefty either. A MLB 2k5 here, maybe ESPN Baseball (giambi cover) and Patched MLB 2k7
The biggest thing people must realize This game is going to be uncomparable, Kush Games burned you guys cold cash. Kush & Blue Castle did, Visual Concepts is pretty good at creating games for 2K so we will see

Subquestion: Will Dick Stockton be doing the games?

And, to be fair, I don't know about a "long track record of success." Hasn't The Show only been great for about 2 years? If that's enough time, I'm going to start saying that the Cubs organization has a "long track record of success."
The version right before the Show was a very good effort and led me towards SCEA. Then when it became the Show the important thing happened: It has improved each year and the developers have taken our suggestions and thoughts to heart.

Hopefully 2K gets going and this year releases a good game that they can keep improving.

        as a lifetime Cubbie...

could it really be more of a frustrating waste of time than last year? It was fun for what? an inning and a half?

Both The Show and 2k have problems. The Show is far from perfect.I've seen complaints from Show fans about too many singles, bad signature styles, dinosaur arms, unrealistic default settings etc...So you Show girls need to stop acting like your playing the holy grail of baseball games.

Even my Show fan boy brother notices the games flaws.lol, I remember he hit 53 HR's with Vlad by the All-Star break in the Show 07', and he was playing on the second hardest default setting.

          Both games need slider tweaking...

Not to get too off-topic, but yes. About an inning and a half. If the meltdown hadn't been so ludicrous and unique (Really? An error by each infielder in Game 2?), it would have been tragic.
Of course, if Dawson gets hot, and
            Sutcliffe comes through, and....
Pa, see what you did to me?

I think 2k9 will be what 2k8 should have been .
Loved 2k7 soundtrack best ever for me.
2k7 had a certain charm , classic IMO except for Walks

No one said The Show was perfect but rather in comparing the Show to what 2k has been it's a no brainer which one has been better. Yes the "too many singles' was an issue but supposedly fixed in 09.. we'll see. And yes both games need some work but it's not close as to which one needs the most work. Hopefully we get 2 quality games this year.
Most member here are not "fanboys" but baseball fans like me. I have The Show, 2K7, MLB Power Pro's and FOM but that doesn't mean one isn't better than another.
Looks like you are looking for reasons to downplay The Show's quality yet call others "Show Girls"??
This for the most part is a mature forum and the "Show Girls" stuff doesn't earn you any points here...

                  For MLB 08 you forgot...

One model gloves, the HUGH black arm guard, no batting glove under your mit, you CAN'T change the color of your batting gloves, shin guard, wrist bands or forearm bands. I hate hearing how ALL the hype for MLB The Show, I mean it's an okay series but still hasn't caught up to 2K on many, many levels.

Coming is my style, but I have to go.

lol...the reason there is "hype" for that game is because of the ways it IS superior. Your entire list was accessories. Add to that signature styles, year by year statistical tracking, and R Stick controls and you've got your list on what 2K does better. there's always a trade-off with competing games. You just have to decide what's more important to you personally.

Many people jumped to The Show because it does everything else superbly. The gameplay is excellent and can be made near perfect with some adjustments (not perfect, mind you, but very close in so many ways).

The AI is the best I've seen in a sports game...no exxageration. As the difficulty increases, it's due to significantly smarter play by the AI, not to some cheap boosts for it.

The presentation is tremendous from nuances in commentary to all that happens in-between each pitch.

The Depth is tremendous and continues to expand by leaps and bounds.

Anyway, my point is it's easy to see why people prefer The Show.

That said, if VC squares 2K baseball away, the control innovations and potential for presentational excellence could make it a tough choice for some. To say it "hasn't caught up to 2K on many, many levels" is a stretch IMO, but it's a fair enough opinion. Again, it depends on what you're looking for in the game.

In any case, we should hopefully have some healthy competition soon enough if 2K rights the ship
