Re: Anybody Popped in 2K8 in Anticipation?

I still enjoy 2k8 and have recently been playing my franchise. Just had one of my best games ever - Trailed 2-0 early, got a run in the 5th and was behind 3-1 in bottom of 9. 1 out, Longoria at bat with a runner on 2nd and bam, 2 run shot to tie it up. Top of 11 they get a run and I'm down 1 in the bottom. Runners on 1st and 2nd, 2 out and Utley's up. I'm an idiot so I swing at the first pitch and hit a hard grounder to 2nd. CPU dives for it but it hits his glove, he bobbles it when picking it up and my runner on 2nd gets just under the throw at home to tie it up. Now 2 men on and guess who's up, Evan Longoria. Fall being 0-2 early but pull some patience out of my *** and fight back to full count. Get a fastball up and in and swing in awe. See ya! Curls around the 3rd base foul poul for an extra inning, come from behind walk-off homerun.

Yea it really isn't. I'm not much for online sports gaming since (unless you play someone you know) it is horrible a representation of the sport you're playing.

Gameplay wise the AI homers and lack of CPU steals are the most annoying. The homers I sort of quelled via slider adjustments, but the CPU steals would take a massive edit of individual player tendencies which I wasn't interested in doing.

      - What always bothered me was the lack of injuries - ESPECIALLY to pitchers.

      - All-Star Gm rosters where there is a mixture of 5-7 relievers/closers, and a scarace amount of starters.

      - Stats. You're lucky if you see a CPU controlled Tim Lincecum get 190 K's. There just aren't enough 200 strikeout pitchers in these 2K games. The league leader might have cracked 200, but the rest from there down is horrid. Which is really funny too since you don't see pitchers really missing any games since they are never injured.

      Nice game...

      -------------------------------------------------------------

I was tired and fell asleep early last night, but I'm going to get on tonight, download the freshest roster, make whatever changes I feel are necessary, and start up a 'chise.

There's still some achievements I'd like to unlock too, which will probably be my main focus.

I still have all my sliders, profile, etc. saved.

Every year everyone is pumped for this game and has high hopes, and every year its the same old thing. IMO it falls way short in every way to mlb the show. That's why I made the switch, I was tired of the promise of something better under the 2k banner.

i actually started to enjoy the game (2K8) late last season and have decided that unless impressions are through the roof, i am going to stick to 2k8 and my ps2 baseball games.

i popped in mvp ncaa 06 last year after i was originally disappointed with 2k8 and played a couple seasons, loving every minute of it. i never got rid of mvp 05, power pros and the show 06, 07. all ps2 but they still play baseball right. sometimes we forget how good those games played in comparison to the graphical improvements. every once in a while i play a game or two and see they each do something better than the others.

Hahahaha. I did the same exact thing. I wanted something to hold me off until the baseball games came out. I do have MLB08 the show but was debating giving 2k8 another chance. But, like yourself, I looked at the back of the box and was no way. I then heard some great news that the Demo for the Show will be dropping today and Im glad i didnt buy it.

I found 2K7 for $6.99 at a Blockbuster and decided to play that - there's nothing much that aggravates me about it, just the outdated rosters and the weird glitches that occurred after the second patch (broken custom soundtrack functionality and the instances where the game doesn't detect a storage device)...

...one of my favorite things about the game was the crowd chatter and heckling, I'm still hearing new stuff...hope they kept it in for 2K9.

I couldn't stand 2K7 when every time I slid into second my player would slide through the SS covering the bag. That paired w/ way too easy pitching was a complete gamekiller for me.

                    --------------------------------------------------------------

I finally got into 2K8 last night, and started a franchise w/ the Nationals. I was able to sim through the first season trying to replicate the 08 finish as best I could.

However...The Mets replaced the Brewers in the playoffs, and the Tigers and Yankees replaced the Rays and White Sox.

I was able to make Philly the WS Champs after beating LAA 4-2 in the WS.

The Nationals finished w/ the third worst record in the NL w/ a record of 70-92.

Right now I'm in the 09 season, but haven't started yet as I'm not done w/ moving players around who were traded in the offseason.

I'm going in alphabetical order and have completed player movement from Atlanta to the Cubs. After that I'll move around the top 50 FA's according to the list I attached here:

I popped it in, but immediatley popped it back out. The hitting makes no sense in this game with the step and then swing. Too much micromanagment with the ball coming at you 90mph. Easier to do out in the yard, but not in the videogame world.

I wouldn't even get that far. I just couldn't play 2k8. I don't want to. I'd like to think that 2K9 will help me forget about 2k8. It wasn't that 2k8 was a total coaster, but just some of the fielding issues just made the game unplayable for me.

And it was ugly as hell. Just a complete "unpolished" look to the game.

Posted this on another thread here in this forum, but this probably a better place.

After doing everything I stated in my last post my 2009 NL Cy Young winner was who...

                          Joe Blanton @ 18-3, 3.28 ERA, and 145 K's - good for 6th place in the NL.

Stats...especially K's, need to be fixed. Johan was the SO leader w/ only 189.

                          That's pathetic.

I fired it up last night with a rematch in Fenway against the Rays. Shields versus Lester. Lester went 8 innings and struck out 7 and took a 5 hitter into the 9th with a 1-0 lead after Papi sacrificed Ellsbury home in the 6th inning. Crawford led off the ninth with a double in the gap, and I took Lester out and replaced him with Pap. Papelbon proceeded to give up 4 runs off 4 hits, and Lester's great effort was spoiled.

Percival goes 1-2-3 in the bottom half of the ninth, and that is that.

I am so looking forward to 2k9 with the fall-back on the fact that if 2k9 falls flat on it's face, I will roster update and play 2k8 again this season. I played EVERY game with the Red Sox and after finally getting the slider set to perfection, I could play this game another year with no issues.

Don't worry, VC dumbed down the controlls for people like you.
