Again, I've seen players do this more than once, these are just the ones I remember clear as day.
Yeah, I wasn't bothered by it either. I've seen worse pitches than that result in homers. Manny bombed one out against the Cubs in the playoffs that was a terrible pitch, down and away, but he had the strength to send it to the bleachers regardless.

I agree, it looked very realistic to me for Ortiz.

That's the key. If guys who have the power to do this are the ones who do it in the game, then I have no problems, but if it's even the medium power guys like an Alex Rios or Mike Lowell, then it's something that would discourage me.

For me, I liked the homerun fine. Remember though, the bigger issue isn't that it happened, but the memory of the fact that it happened too much accross the board in previous iterations.

I think that's really the only concern with it...the wondering of will it be less common than before.

Saw this one too, and didn't think too much of it. The best are able to do that.

To further contextualize this issue, I noticed that in plenty of other cases, hitters typically hit the ball where it was pitched, and oftentimes for a foul ball. I saw several balls pitched away that hitters swatted for pouting fouls off the 1st base line.

I also saw several really cool fouls where you could tell guys were right on top of the ball but just missed by a centimeter--you know, the ones that go straight back. That's a nice touch that suggests that you can't just hit the ball anywhere this time around and expect to put it in play. It also suggests that even small mistakes with timing and location will produces those near-misses that could have been homers.

With the option to use true zone hitting this year, I could see some really great hit variety from this game.

Ok, so you guys are trying to tell me that it is believable to pull a down and out fastball for a monster shot over the right center fence?

One of my biggest issues with the 2k series over the years is the bat on ball physics. If you take a look at that Papi homer in slow mo (keep pressing pause), you will notice how late he was on his swing. There is NO WAY that he should have hit that pitch where it went. If anything, that ball should have been hammered down the left field line.

Regardless, pulling a down and out fastball to right center is one of the most impossible feats in all of baseball. The physics of the feat alone are mind boggling.

I want this series to succeed, but that Ortiz home video has me very scared. Looks to be yet another year of balls being hit all over the field with no respect to timing/angle of the batters swing.
