Not sure I understand this one. Unless you're talking of something else, Don't most games have a name bank nowadays? Plus, The Show has this as well AND the developers actually have been taking up lists the last couple years trying to get our names in the database as well. Pretty cool, IMO.
In either case, I do agree that a good name bank is a plus for any game.
Yeah, the controls in general are a BIG draw for this game. It's really the biggest sticking point for a lot of people (love or hate). I know many who base there decision )all things functioning of course

I love the pitching, but not the clunky indications. We'll see if the new zone system gets me more into the swing stick. The throw meter is awesome, IMO.
Yup. This, to me is probably the biggest improvement this year. It looks fantastic. The cutaways, full and "lifelike" dugouts and bullpens really add to the immersion.
The crowd is much improved too and I actually think it has less repeats than The Show (at least form what I've seen in The Show's demo).
Not sure how much of a plus this is for 2K. I think the issue with The Show was more not being able to select them over what they have. That's changed for 09, so we'll see.
This is one that I think may become a hot point of debate down the road. The Show's commentary is very deep, has a low rate of repetition (comparitively to other games and considering the constant chatter of baseball announcers) and Matty V. sounds great.
The trouble it's always had (IMO) is that it feels disjointed and not like a virtual "booth." Dave and Rex only chime in and their commentary is shallow. It's matt that carries it, for sure.
The commentary thus far in 2K9 sounds VERY promising. Gary sounds excellent and Phillips actually does as well (remember, I hate him

I really like the fluidity of the cutoffs when "gwtting back to the action." It's a small thing, but adds so much when done right. It appears to be the case with 2K9.
The question (and as you said, disc space could become an issue here) is repetition. A lot of the lines about players and situations seem very specific from what I've heard thus far. This is nice while previewing, but might become a festival of "SHUT UP ALREADY" down the road...lol. Time will tell on that.
Anyway, I really dig the small sample of commentary from 2K9

This is another mixed bag for me. I think the minors now matter more in The Show due to the new roster control upgrades (waiver, 40 man, etc). Plus the lack of playable minors below AAA in 2K9 is kind of a letdown.
2K9 does go down to A ball though (well single A, I mean) while The Show only gets to AA. Plus the real minor league stadiums in 2K9 are a big plus, IMO.
I think this will be an overwhelming advantage for The Show. The customized chant creator allows for full stadium chants to be implemented (hello "Yankees Suck"

A lot of customization with that feature and it should be a blast to see what the community comes up with.
Anyway, I think the important thing people should realize about this discussion, is that if 2K9 really shows improvement and does well, BOTH games will benefit. The developers of The Show have already taken notice of the control schemes in 2K9, for example.
Think about your favorite of the two for a moment and imagine them with some interpretation of the strong points of the other title. Sounds dreamy to me...lol.
