Wrong. Classic stadiums are in. Home Run Derby isn't much of a factor imo, as I would probably just sim over it anyways. The only upside 2k has imo, is that it will offer a pc version. 2k is getting on track, but it still appeals to me to more of an arcade game rather than a simulation.Comment

Signature styles
Plain and simple. I'm not sure of the #'s.
But, it's the styles themselves that are better. Actually, much better.
The players batting stances and pitching windups are much more accurate and it just adds to the feel of you actaully controlling the real life playerComment

Ok I don't know if anyone mentioned this in the thread yet or not, but with 2k Share someone will release a full roster set where all minor league players have their correct names. Also sliders can be distributed this way as well (looks at bigfnjoe).
At least I think that's how it works? I've never used it since I don't play NBA2k though.--

Presentation, especially the real time atmosphere. This makes cut scenes a thing of the past. That includes the announcing team. I doubt that there has been a better one in sports, then what 2k9 has. Button mashing is also a thing of the past IMO. It's just too simple to play a game that way.Last edited by Eddie1967; 02-15-2009, 11:31 AM.Originally posted by jim416You are the 2k Police. :)Comment

1. Presentation. Camera angle customization and the real-time presentation
2. Catcher animations...I like how 2K's catchers react and act like real catchers; they seem to hold the spot longer after the catch...and throw it back to the pitcher in a more realistic manner
3. Gary Thorne sounds very natural, although Vasgersian can hold his own...this might be a push.
4. nice looking clouds in the sky that move...although there aren't any clouds in the show demo for me to base this off of.Comment

The real-time atmosphere thing really has me intrigued. As others have said, it's nice to see 2k going a different direction than SCEA with some features as it helps differentiate the products.
I'm a big fan of R-stick control, too (see NHL 08-09) and I think 2k has impleneted it well in the game. Eliminating the Meatball pitch was a huge deal, imo.
It's nice to see 2 quality games out there. I have a PS2 and 360 and I am seriously thinking of getting both games this year (2k9 for 360 and Show for PS2). It's looking like all baseball fans will come out winners this year.Currently Playing:

Re: Things MLB 2k does better than the Show?
Agreed, DJ. I went back and watched a 13-minute video of The Show's demo after watching a bunch of vids of 2K9, and it seems to me that 2K has just introduced a "game changer" with the real world presentation.
I think it's going to take another year at least for this thing to feel as robust as it should, but cutscenes already look like a thing of the past. And as posters in the SCEA forum have suggested, the amount of time it would take to move from the massive pre-rendered database that The Show has to rendering these things real-time would be too much to handle and might actually regress the series. So, it looks like we'll be getting two very interesting but different interpretations of how to render the sport for the next few years--great news for gamers!Comment

Re: Things MLB 2k does better than the Show?
I'm sitting here and thinking to myself, how all this comparison stuff could be done when all you guys saying presentation and basing it off a demo vs. a near finished product. To me it sounds like you want it to be and therefore it is, which is preposterous.
Compare the games when they are both out(retail versions) to me of all the threads that need to be locked is this one, I mean the anecdotal evidence is as follows a demo vs. a review code, of which some have played the demo and none have played the review code.
That's my take on this comparison crap, its like when 1up did a comparison of Killzone 2 E3 2007 video vs a finished Product Halo 3 and did an A.I comparison and called the A.I. in Killzone 2 stupid based on a video(unfinished product), now that the finished product has surfaced they are singing a different tune.
Again demo vs. review code that'll teach'emComment

From my perspective, it seems that while 2K is starting from square one in a way, they did something really interesting and innovative with the real world thing. We all know it's not going to be as deep or as well-tuned this year as we'd like, but it's a good move and early returns from Steve's videos show the promise of this system.
Why is talking about this--and message boards are for talking about things, both potential and actual, last time I checked--illegitimate?Comment
