2K is much better at plastering their stadiums in identical Pepsi ads and releasing hundreds of menu screenshots instead of actual gameplay.

Those are some pretty hot menus though. Wonderful attention to detail. Maybe they could replace all their PS2 character models with that exquisite typography.

2k didn't release those menu screens. Steve from OS did.

            Yes indeed.

I really do not want to buy two baseball games this year so 2K will probably not end up in my PS3 unless I get it in late-summer for $20 or something. But anyway...

The real-time/non-cutscene thing looks awesome but I'm not sure that will put 2K over the top of The Show in terms of overall presentation. Gary Thorne is going to be a huge addition to the game and sounds wonderful but Vasgerian in The Show is the best commentator in the history of sports games and it's not even close at the moment - not sure if Thorne will hop into Matt V's league in Year 1 with 2K.

2K still has a pretty big edge in Signature Styles although The Show did a big overhaul for 09. Some of the new stances in the vids for The Show are good, some are still way off. 2K has all of them nearly spot on, just like NBA2K it's amazing what they can do with sig styles. Pitching animations, batting stances, batter walk-ups, IMO that adds a ton of personality to the game and indiviualism. Plus the player customaziation is great, it's a small thing but it drives me up the wall that you still can't edit individual player's batting gloves in The Show 09 - it still has generic team batting gloves like MVP '05.

I like the fielding in 2K's games more though it's not a strong point in either game IMO. Too much semi-auto fielding in The Show.

I liked the pitching system in 2K8 but it's still too easy to pinpoint pitches. Classic method in The Show is the most realistic but also the most boring (pick a location, press X and let the ratings/fatigue decide how close the pitch comes to hitting it's target). This is really a toss up and personal preference - user immersion and fun vs realism.

I'm not crazy about the hitting in either series, I'm trying like heck to get a hang of using the L-stick in The Show. Timing only just isn't for me, after using the cursor for years in 2K games on Xbox and then MVP's style of hitting I simply can't go back to timing-only like most use in The Show. The swing stick really isn't for me, though it improved quite a bit from 2K7 to 2K8. I will have to try the 2K9 demo to get an idea of this year's improvements but if I had to pick one I would take 2K's hitting system.

Another thing I like in 2K is that you can really feel the difference between a scrub and A-Rod or Pujols when you're batting. I feel very little difference between each hitter in The Show, not much individualism and pretty much everyone feels the same.

I like the player models (not the faces) in 2K more but graphically The Show is better as a whole and by a decent margin. For non-PS3 owners, videos and screens don't do the game justice in comparsion to seeing it on a 50" HDTV.

My biggest problem with The Show over the last four years is that I simply don't have a ton of fun playing it. I'm never all that excited to play for whatever reason - I find it a bit boring. I sold my 360 shortly after 2K8 came out and bought a PS3 last July. I spent more time with 2K8 and had more fun with it than I did with The Show 08. I guess it's just my personal preference.

That's very interesting. I think it's one thing that VC does very well in all of their titles. In their hockey game, it is very easy to tell a utility player from say someone like Patrick Elias. EA's game does not do that well at all IMO.

I can tell that with The Show. The scrubs I dread hitting with, and get pitched to differently. Barely get any timely hits with them, and certainly no "pop".

Fielding was another story, and both games did not draw any boundaries in that respect. All the fielders felt the same. But in The Show this year, they have made strides in that department, where some guys are more prone to botching plays, or balls eating them up. Slower fielders, and not as smart routes to the ball.

                Going to be exciting.

Hopefully the fielding is that way in 2K9 were you can tell the difference between different skill sets. It seems like everybody should be happy with the choice of baseball games this year.

Re: Things MLB 2k does better than the Show?

I buy both games each season, each game plays different, looks different, etc, etc. From the vids I've seen of 2k, it appears to me like they went a long way to improving the game they had last year which was way behind what the show offered last year.
The Show has also improved greatly this year but I believe just based on the vids, that 2k has definately closed the gap a bit from last year. Thorne sounds excellent and has a great voice for doing the game. In fact he is so good that I hardly mind that knucklehead Phillips. A couple of things that i have said before here that annoys me about 2k, that orga n music has got to go!!!! And new this year is all the gaudy ads they have all over the place. Devs, if you expect us to fork over 60 bucks for this title, please don't clutter the game up with all of these ads.

I will praise 2k for their signature style but they aren't 100% accurate with everyone.

I noticed Denard Span was horribly off... and in The Show, he's almost perfect. I'm sure there will be other examples where one title is better than the other.

Either way, again, we win as a consumer.

MLB 2K does the 360 better.

I noticed Denard Span was horribly off... and in The Show, he's almost perfect. I'm sure there will be other examples where one title is better than the other.

Either way, again, we win as a consumer.

I want to see what the PS3 version looks like.

PS3 version last year was junk totally. It seems the XBOX 360 was alot better.
Now since the same group that made NBA 2k9 did this game, I want to see what their PS3 version is like.

                              Thanks

2k baseball just seem like its more of a simulation baseball game to me.
