Will the CPU take strikes? Will sliders remedy this?

With all of the gameplay videos out now, we all have a few smaller issues that we would like to know, but nothing major is really popping out at me (which is a good sign) except for the question of whether the CPU will take strikes at all and if not out of the box, will there be a slider to remedy this? In all the videos posted, the CPU swings at everything in the strike zone with no aberrations and it's honestly getting worrisome at this point. It would be nice for one of the devs or admins here to limit our worrying and answer the questions for this one issue:

    1. Will the CPU take any strikes?
    2. Will there be sliders like last year to remedy this (i.e. CPU take strike ahead? behind?)
    3. Is it possible to strike someone out . . . (gulp) . . . looking?

Please, if you want anyone to purchase this game, this is definitely something that's going to need answering. Thanks!

Re: Will the CPU take strikes? Will sliders remedy this?

From the videos I have seen this is the only real problem I can see. It seems to me that last year the sliders did tweak this though. We also don't know what level they are playing on. I know that in Pro last year it was most certainly an "action" game.

I took a look at the screens again, and it looks like the CPU Take Strike slider has been removed. Could be a problem, yes.

This is the exact reason why I am worried...

How long has this problem plagues baseball games? I will not buy this game if you cant get real pitch counts, balls, and walks.

I know alot of people just want to go up and swing, but at least give the sim guys an option to play this way.

Unless a 2K dev will chime in and answer the question, we really don't know until we get our hands on the full game since the demo will probably be an early build as well.

What is up with VC supposedly REMOVING sliders? From what I heard in the Q&A and other threads here, they removed the arm strength slider. Now, it appears they've also removed the CPU take strike slider? I could kind of see why they would remove the arm strenght slider since the meter ties into the throws, but I find it hard to believe the developers would remove the CPU take slider since that can have a major effect on the gameplay.

I completely agree. It's kind of mind boggling actually....

You've got to remember that VC had their work cut out for them with this game. It's likely that if sliders were removed, it's because they didn't function properly within the framework of optimization efforts. Meaning I'd be willing to bet if the slider is gone, it's for some reason.

Still, that said, the ability to work a realistic pitch count is a pretty big concern. Hopefully it's better than it's looked and/or they've got contingencies in place.

Like Jeffy said, we likely won't know (unless simballer or someone chimes in) until the retail copy is in the hands of a few guinea pigs.

This is my biggest concern as well.

This code isn't final, and the developers still have (or had) time to make gameplay tweaks. I hope for all our sakes they decided to tone down the willingness of the CPU to swing.

The last time I remember the CPU swinging at everything in the zone was the triple play series. But like someone said, we shouldn't jump the gun without getting out hands on the game. Once the game comes out, this thread will flood with reviews, bugs, etc. For me, like others, it may no longer be a first day purchase (of course, it is my opinion).

A discussion on the sliders has begun over here:

We are throwing some ideas around in reference to this so-called issue & what sliders may remedy said issue. Come join the discussion

And why won't the developers at least answer the question? The question was asked not once but TWICE in the 2ksports forum in the ask the devs anything thread and both times it was ignored. This would basically ruin the entire sim aspect of the game. I only own a 360 and I don't really have a choice in terms of baseball games to choose from, but I'll be honest, if every pitcher is gonna need 50 pitches for a complete game, it pretty much makes fatigue obsolete, thus ruining the sim aspect, and thus forcing me to either skip baseball this year (which simply won't happen) or buy a PS3. It really is that simple. I understand cutting corners, and I'm not one to throw around the term "game-killer," but if anything is a game-killer, this is it.

Devs, mods, someone, please let us know, will there be any way (besides editing pitchers ratings) to get realistic pitch counts via sliders or difficulty levels???

Seems like they are trying to avoid the question. It would be a real downer if the computer swung at everything.
