I've thrown lots of balls outside my chosen location. If you are trying to paint the corners with the left stick and throw it as the yellow starts shrinking you will throw balls. Or I imagine aiming outside the zone and throwing a perfect pitch would do the same of course. Also, if the bases are loaded the location icon bounces around to simulate pressure, and if you are getting rocked your composure goes down the toilet and the pitch meter expands & contracts alot faster - thus making it more difficult to throw strikes.

From what I have seen the AI will not chase bad pitches but rarely looks at strikes. I think the best way is to find their cold zones (see below) and paint that corner with a strike using your best pitch.

Also, there's some good info about your opponent if you move the D-pad around prior to a pitch.

Here are Steve's screenshots of the full retail version controls. Unfortunately I don't have time right now to determine which of these are valid in the demo...

No, meatballs are gone. Instead of meatballs, the pitches are just bad. ie. hanging curves, straight fastballs, etc.

The batter's eye isn't in the demo correct? I also can't get the quick throw to work.

No it isn't. And I'm glad to here someone else is having that problem. I thought quick throw was supposed ot have its own set of animations but i'm not really seeing anything. Hopefully its just not in the demo

Thanks, swaldo. It'll be a big help as they've changed a lot since 2K8. Yesterday I tried to slide with the R-stick only to tell my runner to advance. Oops...

Ok, here is the demo controls layout which you can easily print. I didn't get into all situations such as blocking the plate with the catcher but I made it as accurate as possible.

Pitching:
<O</O
LB = Bring up / Hide pitch overlay
LT = Pull & hold for pickoff (use right stick to throw)
RS = Pitch (example: pull back then up for fastball)
RT = Lock pitch location (ball icon doesn’t lock but it still works.)
Y = Intentional Walk
A = Shake off pitch
X = Pitch out
Back = Mound visit by manager
Start = Pause menu
<O</O
D-Pad = Coach’s clipboard:
Up = Shift infield
Down = Substitutions
Left = Batter grades & breakdown
Right = Batter report (hot/cold zones & batting avg by pitch)

Batting:
<O</O
LT = Leadoff / Steal for individual runner (click LT to increase leadoff, then hold & release when pitcher makes motion to throw.)
LB = Leadoff / Steal for all runners
RT = Decrease lead / Dive back individual runner
RB = Decrease lead / Dive back all runners
A = Select base runner
X = Bunt
RS = Swing (Back to set, forward to swing)
LS = Aim hit (pull, drive, fly, ground.)
Back = Switch sides (for switch hitters only)

D Pad = Coach’s Clipboard:
Up = N/A
Left = Pitcher Breakdown
Down = Substitution
Right = Pitcher report

Base running:
<O</O
LB = Advance one base for all runners
LT = Advance individual runner one base
RB = Decrease one base for all runners
RT = Decrease individual runner one base
A = Select base runner
X = Slide (runners will auto slide when necessary)
LS = Aim Slide
RS = Move runner

Fielding:
<O</O
LB = Throw to cutoff man
LS = Move player
RS = Throw to base (up for 2nd, down for home etc.) Release in green for more accurate throw, release in red for more speed but less accurate & possible error.)
RB = Block the plate (catcher only)
RT = Hold to hold the ball
Y = Call off fielders / Throw to 2<SUP>nd</SUP>
B = Block the plate (catcher only) / Throw to 1st
A = Select player / Throw home
X = Jump/Dive Catch/Wall Climb/Throw to 3<SUP>rd</SUP>

Is it possible to sub a pitcher from the Coach's Clipboard? I was able to get pitcher's warming up in the pen (and could view them warming up), but it won't let me actually bring in a new pitcher. Seems to be a limitation of the demo.

You can use subs, I was able to anyway. Perhaps you are limited only to middle relievers since the game is 3 innings? I haven't tried to sub in a different starting pitcher or closer.

Re: Demo tutorial & controls

I just brought in old man Moyer so you can sub in anybody. Just make sure his status is green (in view bullpen) and states "ready" in substitutions menu.

Also a couple tips for those who haven't played it yet. After aiming your pitch hold & release the right trigger - it will lock in the location. It was annoying to manually aim every pitch.

Yes you can aim slide - I snagged a base this way when the fielder covered the right side of the bag and I aim slid left.

I haven't figured out how to check swing, although I've seen the CPU do it to me on a few pitches.
