    AI Will Take Strikes

    When I pitch with the demo and pitch correct I do get batters taking K's as a matter of fact I got 1 batter out so far on 3 looking K's.

    Who I think Pitching works is you let it feel uo the circle but try to stop it from closing as fast as possible.

    When I tried to pitch with the circle closing at it's smallest point like in MLB 2K7 I was getting shelled for like 13 plus runs.

    Now I do it the other way and I see circle within with the circle and when I see this I make my best pitches.

    If I'm wrong shoot my but I'm getting AI Takes on Balls and Strikes.

    I didn't want this in the demo impression thread because this is a AI Take thread and one of the most major concerns of the game at this point and it needs it's own thread but must stay on the topic that it's created about.

      it definately has to do with how you are pitching. ive noticed it as well. i cant figure out if im supposed to let the circle close and hold up for the strike on a fastball for example or not though.....

        Sorry I meant the topic was only on AI Take Strikes and nothing else.

        I just don't want this thread put into the demo thread just to get lost as this is a major concern of the game right now.

          Exactly, I'm seeing the same thing. As far as the circle is concerned it seems like you have to let the circle get completely filled on the first motion and then go into the second motion. Not sure if that's totally right, but I struck out the CPU with pitches not far from the middle of the box.

            I agree SF, as long as I work the count and throw smart pitches, I see the AI taking enough pitches to make me happy. If I just want to chuck crap up there, than they swing at almost anything.

            For one instance, I saw Ryan howard stand there and grimmace after he watched a floating change up just hit low and outside to catch the corner for a third strike. I love it because I had to work for it, and outhink the AI with my pitching.

              Now hearing the Demo is set to Pro I can believe AI will even take more k's at higher levels of play!

                Why would the AI take *more* strikes on a higher difficulty level? If anything they will make better contact at a higher level and will take less strikes.

                It's going to come down not to a difficulty level, but what the sliders actually do and if the AI can be adjusted to take more strikes. I think judgement on this will have to be reserved until the full game is released.

                  Wrong the higher the level the harder for Human and AI, Contact and Power go down not up.

                  Also higher level means smarter AI and always has so it will play better baseball.

                    Wouldn't it make sense that on a higher difficulty...
                    While you are pitching...the CPU would get a boost to hitting and plate discipline and while YOU are batting the CPU would get a boost to it's pitching attributes?

                      This series last year was built for Arcade on the lower setting and Sim on the higher and I will believe it's the same until prove other wise.

                      Fifa did this the best as the higher the level the more sim it becomes.

                        That's exactly how you're supposed to do it. I don't see how this isn't obvious to everyone.

                        In 2K8, the most effective method was to make as fluid a motion as possible, then release the second part as the circle closed.

                        In 2K9, the most effective method is again to make as fluid a motion as possible. The difference is the pitch is thrown automatically when you complete the motion, so the second timing aspect from 2K8 is dropped.

                          Because you're going to make better contact when you're taking more pitches. The AI in the demo swings at garbage in and out of the zone, and only occasionally takes a borderline pitch in the zone.

                          A more competent AI, such is hopefully at the higher difficulty levels, would be taking more balls AND strikes, in an attempt to only be swinging at a good pitches. Just because a pitch is a strike doesn't mean it's a good pitch to hit, and that's exactly why a higher level AI should be taking more strikes.

                            That would make sense to me as well.

                            As it is now, low difficulty or not, on default the CPU simply doesn't take what I would consider enough strikes.

                            If people think the CPU is taking an adequate amount of strikes compared to a baseball game... more power to them. I'm simply looking forward to the final copy of the game and the possibilities to tweak this even tighter... SOME way.

                              I haven't played 2K8 in awhile, but I was just playing 2K7 and if you turn the difficulty up, the AI power and contact go up as well....
