I posted the sliders I've been using for the last couple of days in the Slider Section. I was hoping to hold off until the PDF Manual hit, but Ron @ 2K says he doesn't thing a PDF Manual will be made for this game...

Re: I think I figured out a way to alleviate the CPU swinging issue!

Just finished losing to the Rays 6-0 in Fenway. I threw 108 pitches in the game. Counting the Anaheim game that's over 200 pitches and I've seen the CPU take 4 pitches for strikes.

The fielding in this last game almost made me throw the controller through the TV. Longoria hits a ball up the middle I control the SS and the 2nd baseman is there and niether one of them pick up the ball. The next batter hits a fly ball to left and Bay immediately goes into the 2k slo mo run and lets the ball drop for an easy single.

Next play. Pop fly to short, Lugo circles around and never attempts to catch the &*(()**)*&^^%% ball!!!

I hope some of the dev team reads this thread, because I would be emabrrassed at some of the half assed programming and idiotic decision making that went into making this game. For all that's good about the game, there are a ton of head scratching "wtf were they thinking" moments in the product. When are you people going to learn that all that is new and right about features for a current release don't mean a thing if you botch something else up. Take out the Meatball....yay!!!!...CPU never takes a strike..get my drift. What's the difference? The game is still eff'd up.

Not surprised. It would make sense to release something that explained the sliders. Why would anyone from this dev team do something that made sense?

Ron said he would ask them to post some slider explanations on the 2K forum. That would be nice, but we'll see if it happens.

            I agree 110%

Every time the CPU takes a strike I put the controller down and walk around my room like a pitcher circling the mound in sheer amazement of what just happened. Then I'll throw another 60 pitches before ever seeing it happen again, in which I'll repeat the ritual all over again.

Regarding fielding... You have to lay off the stick as your approaching the ball to coax the your fielder to go into a canned animation in which he catches the ball. If you don't, its drop city.

Re: I think I figured out a way to alleviate the CPU swinging issue!

I don't know man, I'm seeing the CPU take plenty of strikes.

              My settings:

              - Use AllStar or Legend Difficulty (depending on how good you want the CPU to be) and adjust the following:
              - Zone & Classic Hitting On.
              - Total Control Pitching using the 2-step (new) Delivery approach.
              - Use BGFNJOE's CPU Pitching Sliders ( to generate walks and realistic CPU pitch counts)
              - Pitch Speed: 50 (cursor hitting is hard)
              - User Batting Contact: 100 (cursor hitting is still hard)
              - User Pickoff Success: 0

That's it! Now MAKE SURE YOU MIX UP YOUR PITCHES AND LOCATIONS! If you do, the CPU will take strikes, will strike out looking, will swing at some bad pitches, etc. If you don't mix it up well . . .. you will see the same old s%&!.

I think the title of this thread needs to be changed because I am seeing no evidence or reading anything that substantiates this claim.

I wish 2k would step forward and announce they will patch this problem. That is the only thing keeping me from purchasing it.

I will wait until I hear confirmation of a patch. Just drives me crazy that in the demo the CPU is swinging at everything close to plate, very few called strikes.
It's on me. I shook his hand too hard. It was a hard ... kind of a slap-shake.

I'm really not seeing the CPU take very many strikes at all. Yes, a few here and there, but not nearly enough (and yes I mix up my pitches/locations and max out the meter). Even when I though balls out of the zone they will often even hack at balls too. Definitely needs toned down, and I hope soon because this aspect of the game sucks right now. If they fix it, I'll consider this a good game, but until then it's definitely flawed in this area.

                    P,

I can certainly appreciate what your saying. I am using the 2 Step method as well as the IEB. I am generating a few strikeouts here and there, but even with AI Batting Contact at 0!!!!!! the cpu still hits anything in the zone, or at least 90% of what is in the zone. BTW, when I say zone, I'm not talking about pitches that are completely in the zone. I'm painting black for 9 innings to try to get this thing working.

I'm also throwing about 100 pitches per game. It's a low number because of the lack of AI taking strikes and working counts and also because the number of foul balls has decreased this year.

This is nothing more than a slo pitch softball game right now. If it's close....swing and of course make contact. I'm not saying it can't be fixed, but as of now, no matter what the slider settings are the CPU will NOT take the right amount of pitches. Yes, I am mixing up pitches, speeds, and location. To repeat, I threw over 200 pitches in the anaheim and Boston games and the CPU took.....FOUR effing PITCHES FOR STRIKES!

Additionally, at this point, other than the frame rate and stolen base issue, 2k8 plays a MUCH better and more simulation style of baseball. 2k9 is a slo pitch softball game with piss poor pitcher/batter confrontations and bad fielding. IMO, if you can't get those two parts of a game right, save the money and time in the development process and lose the MLB license.

I'm seeing the same thing. I dropped the AI Contact down to 0 and they are still hitting too many pitches, even when I paint the zone with mixed pitches.

I saw that and just shook my head. Never before have I seen sliders so mysteriously named. It's like the person who was allowed give names to the sliders doesn't speak English very well.

Has anyone looked at the IE data from the main menu? All of the hitters have aggression levels for each pich count. Check it out. Now if only it would work as the IE data shows. This is an interesting piece of the puzzle. It's as if these really great ratings are there but are overpowered by the base gameplay. The IE data is hot, if only they'd let it shine.
