Is there a "Potential" rating?
I browsed around individual player ratings and I can't seem to find their potential rating. Is it in this game or did they decide leave it out? It's important to me, especially when trading for prospects and obviously for the draft. Anyone?Tags: None -
Re: Is there a "Potential" rating?
I just found out from someone that they left it out. Wow if any sport needed a potential rating, it's baseball with all the prospects and everything. Even nba2k9 has it -
Re: Is there a "Potential" rating?
Part of that might be that this year, a player improves based on his playing time and actual performance. So maybe that Potential would either A) be a lot harder to calculate, or B) not matter much since it could change all the time. Of course I could be way off, too.Go BC Eagles!!!

Re: Is there a "Potential" rating?
Seriously, what is potential but a random number a programmer assigned to a player anyway? I'd much rather have it be based on player performance in-game.
But hey, people will find anything to pile on about when they smell blood in the water.Comment

Re: Is there a "Potential" rating?
Oh no, don't get me wrong. I'm not one of those nit picky guys that rip apart every aspect of the game. It'd just nice to see which prospects in my farm system I should keep my eye on, or dedicate more playing time that's all because that player has a bigger chance of getting called up sooner than later that's all.
One idea I'd like is to have a potential rating change every year based on his progression. I'd like the potential rating to be based on how good your scouts are. If your scouts do a good job, then there is less likely that the prospect will be a flop, and if your scouts suck, then it's a total crap shoot how the prospect will turn out. Just my 2 cents.Comment

Re: Is there a "Potential" rating?
Even tho I do like their natural progression of if you give the player more playing time, he will increase faster. There STILL has to be a ceiling for every player. Some prospects start out at 55-57, and their ceiling may be 90-95 if given a chance and quality playing time. While some players are just average prospects, where they start out at 70ish....but their ceiling is only 80. That is why I think a potential rating is important in those regards.Comment

Re: Is there a "Potential" rating?
What are you talking about? Did you see anywhere where it said, playing time=turning willits into home run kings? Playing time and performance. So if Willits hits 40 homers in a season, it will probably increase his liklihood in the future. I doubt anyone is saying if willits has 40 steals, he'll start hitting 40 homers. 2k9 critics are tards. Understand what you're talking about, and then critique.Comment

Re: Is there a "Potential" rating?
I would like to see potential ratings fluctuate and be fluid while the prospect is still in the minors based on his situation (starter? consistent playing time?), or even more impressively, based on his stats. But I think once the prospect gets called up, his potential rating should be more set it stone.
Yeah my main concern is, I don't want playing time to be the #1 way to develop a player. That'd be too easy. There HAS to be players that simply don't progress as much as others, or players that just plain suck and don't pan out at all.Comment

Re: Is there a "Potential" rating?
maybe the ratings are built in but just hidden? That seems more likely. I would assume that minor leaguers would progress, but doubt it is all on playing time and performance because that would be very innovative and haven't heard anything about it.Comment

Re: Is there a "Potential" rating?
It'd be cool if there was that scouting thing like you alluded to, that way potential could have a "real" value but appear fluid to different teams based on what they're looking for and how much time they spend investigating a prospect or current player. Make it like IE, and spend points to check out players throughout the MLB and the upcoming draft class, even have the CPU present you with a list of prospects you might want to investigate further, something like that.
Basically, combine OOTP and 2k.It'd be cool, and maybe if Franchise can stay stable enough that could be something 2k could add next time around.

Re: Is there a "Potential" rating?
I don't think the potential ratings are hidden somewhere. I think I read a Dev franchise report of them leaning towards natural progression based on playing time and all that rather than a set potential rating.
I hope this is just year 1 of building the franchise mode into something awesome. This year's is already better than last year's so I will give them some credit. The presentation alone looks better. But if one thing they should focus on is scouting because it is HUGE and SO important in baseball. Just ask the Tampa Bay Rays or the Royals. They don't have the the deep pockets so they rely on their scouts much more heavily. NBA 2k9 has a scouting system that's not terrible, but it would definitely be a start.Comment
