    Re: Pitching is TOO EASY!!

I give you guys SO much credit for really trying and experimenting to get the game to play better. I wish that 2k could have given you something you could play right away, but at least with people like you digging in there and finding ways and sliders around the issues I have hope that in a month or so it might be playable.

you all should be hired to work on 2k10!

Watch a baseball game and you will see pitchers miss a target outside and end up with the pitch inside. It happens all the time yet in this game it will never happen!! In High Heat this happened alot and made the game extremely fun, sim and unpredictable.

      EDIT**
Sorry did not mean to be so mean, just extremely frustrated.
relax bro... only suggested that because i've read plenty of other people not knowing they can do this.

you also didn't specify how "wild" you wanted the pitchers to be able to be. I assumed that you were talking about if you started out aiming to paint the black, you should not be able to necessarily do it everytime -- and i agree. If you mess up the pitch gesture or release point when aiming on the black, the pitch should end up off the plate for a ball, or get more of the plate than you intended it to and get hit hard. Didn't realize you were talking about missing your spot all the way across the plate.

is there anyway in the game where you can use the pitching system from 2k8?

Not all 500 of them, just the guy you want to try it out with.

Then see if it makes the thing shake right off the bat. If it does, well then at least you can try a game that way. If it has absolutely no bearing on the composure meter being pegged at full right from the get-go, then we have discovered yet another area in which edits versus actual player control is not worked correctly.

I am not giving you the fix for this thing as there is none. I am giving you a suggestion that you can try as a one time thing to see if your pitcher reacts accordingly to your edit.

Take it for what it is worth. We are trying to work through these issues with ways to make them better, we can't fix them

This is not a bad idea for offline exhibition play, but if 2k themselves are watching and reading then maybe this can be adjusted to the game thus making it viable for online leagues. Also during a franchise when I trade for a pitcher and can not edit his ratings.

In High Heat even when you tried to throw a strike you pitcher would miss the plate forcing you to throw a ball. Now no matter what I will never throw a ball unless I want to. That is not sim.

There needs to be a system where you just can't throw a strike on command or at least not have soo much accuracy.

Please on the next patch make the pitching icon on the hardest difficulty level move as though your pitcher is uncomposed. As of right now I can place my pitch anywhere I want reguardless of changes to the sliders.

Make the pitch icon shake all the time and more violently for bad pitchers. The top pitchers it shakes a little. As of right now it is WAY TOO EASY!
QB was nice enough to post what I said in my slider's thread. Give the zoomed out fully camera a try, it does make it harder to pinpoint pitches. The cursor stays the same size, so zoomed out it seems like the cursor covers 25% of the strike zone....more of a challenge.

But you are completely right about this. I think of WBS2K3 instead of High Heat. In WSB, you had what was called variable pitching and it could be turned off, low, medium, or high. It basically added some variance to you pitches and made it tougher to hit spots exactly. Why we don't have this in these new "next-gen" games is beyond me.

Also, I made a post earlier, which you can find here, about a quote made by MLB pitcher Jim Bouton. It has some great ideas along this vein and something VC needs to take notice of.

              Re: Pitching is TOO EASY!!

Yes you can mimic the 2K8 Pitching system....Here's How:

              -Go into Options
              -Go into Controller Layout
-Us the Right Trigger until you get to Pitching
-Turn ON Timing Release (or whatever its called)

Make sure your using Total Control Pitching setting

This will give you the same 2 Circle Timing and Release features of 2K8

              ------

And as I mentioned above, if you want more of a variable, less accurate pitching experience ala retro High Heat Baseball

Turn OFF Total Control Pitching in the Controller Setup Screen

              -goto Options
              -Controller Setup
-Hit Right Button until you get to Pitching then switch from Total Control to CLASSIC
              -Save settings

This allows for much more variable and inconsistent pitching. You still have the Shrinking/Growing circle but I believe it really just influences the quality or speed of the pitch and the control is still variable making for a more realistic and unpredictable pitching experience. You'll still hit your spots, like real pitchers do...but less frequently.

While I am still frustrated with the all around baseball experience that I get out of this year's game, This has made it a little better.

Try "Classic" pitching. Good luck trying to get in the strike zone with that one  You really have to be on point to get the ball near the strike zone. Unless I am doing something completely wrong. I actually enjoy using Classic pitching.

So I tried both classic and total control pitching

total control = i hit my spots and do a good job shutting down the cpu

classic = i can't throw a strike and get lit up by the cpu.

Can anyone explain exactly how classic works? maybe i'm doing something wrong. I hold the pitch button down and the circle expands, then it starts to shrink when i let go. what do i do after that? I try to push the button again but i'm not sure what effect that has on the pitch. it just seems to stop the circle from shrinking.

                  Any help would be appreciated

BTW...loving not being able to pinpoint my pitches but I wish I wasn't giving up insane offensive numbers

                    Re: Pitching is TOO EASY!!

What I have done is CUSTOMIZE the AI's Batting and the USER Pitching Sliders to compensate

with the CPU batting, I set their HITTING or BATTING at 30 and their CONTACT at 0 (yes 0...they still get hits) and POWER at 50.

This has given me good results...start with that, play some games against different quality teams and tweak to your liking.

I dont remember what I set the USER PITCHING sliders to offhand, I'll have to check it out if your still having problems

                      Re: Pitching is TOO EASY!!

From what I've noticed with Classic Pitching, hold until the circle expands, and then let go when it's almost ball sized. Last year's classic pitching sounded a tone if you hit it spot on, no such luck this year.

As far as the pitch location indicator, even on 'pinpoint', I've found that if the indicator is more than 1/2 way inside the strike zone, I'm going to get pounded.
