Re: Why I am leaning to 2K9

^^^I think the main reason people might have thought it was a joke is because of the primary reason he gave. He made it seem like it was something that couldn't be done with The Show when it could be. It seemed odd reasons to jump ship to begin with (though he said as much, and everyone has there thing), but even more odd when one of the reasons wasn't accurate.

That aside, clearly everyone has different tastes. There are plenty of people who would never even go as far as to try The Show and vice-versa. Doesn't really matter. I ended up with both games (PC version of 2K9). I've played the crap out of The Show and have basically shelved 2K9. Just too much that bugs me. I'm hoping the patch, coupled with the PC roster editor in the works, will get me some enjoyment from 2K9 as well.

The important thing is this patch is finally out (PS3 at least) and seems to be looking good for those who have played with it. Hopefully some of the disappointed 2K fans can finally get some more enjoyment out of their preferred title.

Yeah, I have no problem with any game he plays, but the reason was not accurate and if someone was reading it and didn't know they got the wrong information. You can play any team on the schedule and if your team doesn't make it at the end of the year you can still play all the way thru the world series.

Must be. I may get flamed for it, but there's no way any sane hardcore gaming fan, or just a casual gamer who's a fan of baseball can honestly say they enjoy 2k9 over the show. It just isn't possible. I've played both extensively and they only thing 2k9 may have over The Show is commentary. Nothing else is even comparable, The Show is better in every feasible way.

Guess that means Im flat out insane.

Beleive it or not I have NEVER played another game more than a few weeks. Even in the worst of MLB2k years. Id rather just not play a baseball game.

I dont know how to explain, but 2k games feel more alive to me. I have tried to force myself to play EA and Sonys offering, but I grow bored quickly. Their games feel mechanical and just flat out boring compared to even the worst 2k baseball titles.

I even went as far as buying a PS3 and renting the show last year. Returned the PS3 within a week. Boring......... As I said its hard to explain. The show IS more realistic, but its not more "alive" and its not fun to me. The game feels almost too "tight" if that makes any sense? Weather its the annual flaws or by design, 2k games always have randomness to them and that feels "real" to me. Nothing is routine.
            .........

I'm surprised people that have a PS3 actually pick 2K9 over the Show. I never played the Show, but from reading and looking at it, it seems to be the better game. Even some people I know are switching over to 2K9 on their PS3's, I don't get it, is there something with the gameplay on the Show or something?

I watched a ton of videos of it and I was in awe, I was actually debating getting a PS3 just for that game, but I'll wait for a price drop.

It's just tough. It's the defines what simulation based game is. You wont see a million balls go over the fence, the batter/pitcher battles are fierce, the graphics and animations are beautiful, etc. It's literally the best baseball game over.

I personally don't know anyone with a PS3 who's chosen 2K9 over The Show. The thread starter is the only person I've even heard mention it.

Well i own MLB2K9 on the ps3 and not the show. So i kind of fit into that category, even if i didnt get hooked up by 2K i would have bought the game just as i have in the past, i do own 2k7 and 2K8 which i had to buy.

I just can understand why he likes the 2k game especially the ones made by Visual Concepts. While they arent perfect, they appear to have a soul and are fun. At least to me. *shrug* i been like that with their games though since i was like 22 years old going to some after hours party and some guy owning NFL2K on the dreamcast. I been hooked on their games ever since.

But you haven't owned both titles and chosen 2K9 because you believed it to be the superior baseball experience. My point with him is that any sane person that has played both couldn't have consciously picked 2K9 over The Show because the believed it to be the superior gaming experience.

Re: Why I am leaning to 2K9

I prefer 2k9 just because it has better load times.

Say what you want but 2k series has got it down when it comes to loading their games in a hurry. I can be half-way done with a 2k9 game before The Show even loads!

Seriously, this is one place 2k deserves kudos for all of their recent titles, regardless of what you think of 2k9.

Having said that, I am constantly going back and forth between these 2 titles. There is just something about 2k9 that feels "alive" as these other posters have said. I just don't feel that from the show. In fact, I played the show exclusively last year and loved it but I find this years version to be a bit of a rehash and bland. The control scheme is getting dated to me. I get some realistic pitcher batter duels that I don't get in 2k9, but when I get hits, they feel hollow or empty, I don't feel as though I really "hit" something. It seems empty to me or something.

Also, as lame as it sounds, and this is just a pet peeve of mine, I cannot stand all of my day games looking like they are played at 5:00 in the afternoon with long, contrasty shadows all over the field that never change position. I know it's a petty thing to be critical of, but it just bugs me to no end. And in game saves are a must as I don;t always have time to finish every game in one sitting.

Anyway, I am still going back and forth but I will say that 2k9 just keeps pulling me back.
Only time will tell where I will land!

I have the show. I love it. But I am considering picking up 2k9 again since its looks like the new patch fixed the important issues. For some reason 2k9 just feels organic. While the Show feels somewhat scripted.

Re: Why I am leaning to 2K9

what makes the show better than 2k9 is they have less issues with major bugs.
and personally some of the bugs folks complain about arent bugs at all. IMO, The first base issue isnt really a bug. its all about timing, not rushing a throw, and not throwing off balance.

both games have there strong points.
I think the gap between 2k and The Show would have narrowed if they released the game with less bugs.
2k is actually a nice game, the overall score may increas by 2 points after the patch.

what I dislike about the show is that alot of the action and situations seem to be hard coded. I dont like the fixed animations on certain plays.
what I do like about the show is that its easier to tell strikes from balls, whcih makes the pitch count more realistic.

What I like about 2k is that the game overall seems to be more free flowing, less scripted on certain plays. the play by play, absolutely love it, the atmosphere.

I do find myself playing 2k more and more. But again, over all THE SHOW is a slightly better game. Ill play both.

in other sports titles its usually 1 or the other for me.

PJV31, you took the words right out my mouth. "organic" is a much better word. cosigned everything you said

I'm astonished at some of these responses. I can't even get through an entire game of 2K9 because if falls so far behind The Show. Maybe it's just me, but the game imo is that bad.
