Say what you want but 2k series has got it down when it comes to loading their games in a hurry. I can be half-way done with a 2k9 game before The Show even loads!

Seriously, this is one place 2k deserves kudos for all of their recent titles, regardless of what you think of 2k9.

Having said that, I am constantly going back and forth between these 2 titles. There is just something about 2k9 that feels "alive" as these other posters have said. I just don't feel that from the show. In fact, I played the show exclusively last year and loved it but I find this years version to be a bit of a rehash and bland. The control scheme is getting dated to me. I get some realistic pitcher batter duels that I don't get in 2k9, but when I get hits, they feel hollow or empty, I don't feel as though I really "hit" something. It seems empty to me or something.

Also, as lame as it sounds, and this is just a pet peeve of mine, I cannot stand all of my day games looking like they are played at 5:00 in the afternoon with long, contrasty shadows all over the field that never change position. I know it's a petty thing to be critical of, but it just bugs me to no end. And in game saves are a must as I don;t always have time to finish every game in one sitting.

Anyway, I am still going back and forth but I will say that 2k9 just keeps pulling me back.
Only time will tell where I will land!
Im another PS3 user who prerfers 2K. Call me nuts, but the show also gives me that boring feeling too. Overrated player models who look like midgets dont impress me either..... What I love about 2K the most is the authencity, the batting stances and pitching windups for the most part are spot on.... The show's is a joke. THey hit a few here and there but for themost part many of the stances are brutally off.

I know the Show is a better game but with the right sliders 2K can be somewhat of a SIM too. Ill sacrifice some game play for authenticity.

It's statements like this that I find odd. The player models are excellent, and I haven't come across one pitching style or batting stance that were "brutally off".

We'll agree to disagree, I pay close attention to players stances and windups in real life. The Show has a lot of players who are way off. I dont think it can be compared to 2k in this regard.

Re: Why I am leaning to 2K9

While I haven't played any of the PS3 versions of The Show, from what I've seen of it, it looks to be a very solid, nice-looking game of baseball, but much like 2k basketball, it really is using the same engine and gameplay that were around on PS2, albeit with an HD facelift and some bells and whistles. Therefore, while I think it's clearly the superior option on PS3, I'm a little surprised some people get as excited over it as they do b/c I don't feel like the game has changed THAT much since MLB '06 on PS2.

With regards to 2k9 (I'm a 360 guy awaiting the patch), two major advantages that game has that very few people talk about are customizable franchise season/game lengths, and in-game saving. If you're a high schooler or college guy with hours upon hours to dedicate to games, then you probably don't think these features are a big deal. But to an adult with more limited gaming time, these features are HUGE. I especially like that you can shorten seasons down to 54 or 108 games, AND (more importantly), you can shorten game lengths from 3-9 innings. Moreover, 2k sports games allow you to make simulated games the same length, so that statistical comparisons around the league actually make sense. Also, with in-game saving, I can stop the game on a whim if my wife bothers me or something, and pick it up exactly where I left off.

Unless The Show has changed, I don't think they have in-game saving. Also, you could traditionally shorten game lengths in Exhibition or Season mode, but not in a multi-season franchise. So in other words, if you want the franchise stuff, 40-man rosters, minor leagues, drafting, etc...fine, you can have it, but only if you're able to play through 9-inning games (which generally take upwards of a full hour) and a full MLB calendar year.

MLB 2k9 post patch at 2am tonight will become a great game. I plan on sleeping like a baby tonight excited that when I wake up I will have a whole new game in my xbox.
                    Gaming hard since 1988

I have won like 25 Super Bowls in Madden so I am kinda a big deal.

I played theShow08 and thought it was a great game, great sim but I did get a lil bored with it.
I was also thinking of giving 2k a shot this year. I played both demos, theShow looks awesome, feels the same thought. My concerns is the controls of 2k, even thought it's different with the analog sticks but I'm not a big fan so I wondering if it can be changed??? and for the guys currently playing 2k, how do you like it and does it work for you???

having spent time with both games... if you want realism the show is where its at. my only issue is with this "comeback" issue some of us have seen in the show. i have also had some of my pitches some how find the heart of the plate when i am aiming low and outside. as for 2k... its seems alittle cartoonish to me (my opinion) i love the analog pitching and batting which is why i try 2ks game each year it has been in. i just feel the game is too slow after playing the show the pitches (even though it can be adjusted) just come in too slow. the thing 2k has i wish the show had was the attention to minor league teams and it's players i.e Top 100 prospect listings and such.

I have been toying with leaning toward 2k myself but the new additions to the show such as 40-man rosters, arbitration, two drafts and overall roster control is too much to just not play.

No it isn't. You conspiracy guys kill me with this stuff. So someone says the computer came back on them, which coincidentally happens in real baseball and it's a fact. The show forum is filled with those types of threads, and a lot of people seem to see it in that game but it's nothing like that here. It simply is not true.
