Re: Is MLB 2k9 more fun?
The problem with The Show is it isn't moving forward as a next-gen title, apart from the graphics. I have the PS2 version and I've played the PS3 version, and they're identical. The Show is essentially a last-gen game, and after four years it's starting to bother me. That's why I don't enjoy it as much as, say, MLB 06. SCEA needs to start adding TRUE next-gen elements: unscripted gameplay, adjustable difficulty levels, meaningful player ratings, working sliders and R stick controls. I would have stuck with 2K9 this year if the overall game had been decent, because I feel 2K is at least trying to take their next-gen games to another level. 2K10 will be the game I finally switch to if both developers continue along their current paths.Last edited by baa7; 04-07-2009, 09:02 AM.Comment

I don't understand these threads. If you like the Show, then play the Show. If you like 2k9, then play 2k9. If you like both, then play both. PeriodRedskins, Lakers, Orioles, UNC Basketball , and ND Football

Re: Is MLB 2k9 more fun?
IMO, both games are enjoyable with the Show having a slight edge.
I agree with alot of the posts regarding the 2k9 vs The Show debate.
2k9 has come a long way and does some things better than the SHOW.
-commentary
-fielding post patch
-more control of players
-less scripted
-everything happens in the flow of the game. its more organic.
-the games are quicker and the stats are close to sim minus the pitch counts. This would be resolved if it was easier to read pitches thrown by the AI.
The Show
-realistic game situations play out the way it most likely would in game situation. but thats also a negative, because after playing THE SHOW for the past 3 years alot of the scenarios feel scripted and hard coded into the game play.
-Its easier to read pitches in the SHOW, which results in realistic/sim pitch counts. This is where THE SHOW trumps, the ability to read pitches makes for better batter/pitcher duels. This works both ways in THE SHOW.
In 2k9 you get alot of scenarios where both the AI batter and user just flail away.
Final synopsis, I enjoy both. 2k9 has made a good step forward but the SHOW is still overall the better game.Comment

Re: Is MLB 2k9 more fun?
Last year there wasnt that much a debate cause THE SHOW was clearly the better game, by a huge margin.
whether folks want to admit it or not, the gap has closed, by more than people are willing to admit.Comment

Re: Is MLB 2k9 more fun?
The swing animations, the pitcher deliveries and the basic gameplay coding are all ported over from their last-gen game. You know why a first baseman in The Show can't make an error -- can't drop a throw from an infielder, for example? Because he couldn't in the last-gen version either. SCEA is still using their game engine and coding from the PS2 version of the game. Next-gen graphics; last-gen player models, animation engine, (non)collision detection and game coding.Last edited by baa7; 04-07-2009, 11:09 AM.Comment

Re: Is MLB 2k9 more fun?
As is true every year I purchased both games and give them both a fair shot as to which I play more. Last year the edge and most of my baseball video gaming went to The Show. While I did enjoy 2K8 and after tinkering with the sliders in that game for an EXTENDED period of time I was able to get realistic games and stats, The Show just outclassed it imo.
This year it has been no contest, not even close. The Show is my game of choice, much more so than last year where I felt it was close. Probably the most polished sports game I've ever played. I just cannot get into 2K9 this year, even after the patch. Can't seem to get realistic games even after tinkering with the sliders for several days. Game seems even more sluggish to me than last year. Just don't think VC had the time to complete the game. I will give 2K another shot next year though as I believe VC will deliver at some point.Originally posted by ImTellinTimIf I lived in Waco, I would find you and kick you right in the nuts.Comment

Re: Is MLB 2k9 more fun?
I have both games, and IMO, both are good. I like the pitcher/batter duels in The Show; I feel like the AI pitcher is analyzing my plate discipline pattern and exploits me when it needs to. I don't get that in 2K9. As someone said before, 2K9 is more organic, less scripted and I enjoy the real time aspect they've added this year. I also like the right analog stick functions; they make me feel more involved. The graphics aren't as good as The Show's but they are not bad by any means. If I had to decide on one, (and I'm glad I don't have to), I would pick 2K9 simply because The Show, IMHO, has gotten to be too formulaic and scripted to the point that, at times, it's boring to me.

Re: Is MLB 2k9 more fun?
I believe MLB 2k9 is good. It's not great but it's my only option as I have a 360. I played The Show 08 last year a few times with my buddy who has a PS3 and it was a great game. The only problem I see with 2k9 compared to the show is the bugginess. Stupid things happen in 2k9 that just shouldn't happen and they don't happen in the show. I don't know about The Show 09 but I highly doubt they digressed from The Show 08. I just believe that The Show is a much more polished game. Once 2k9 probabally not till 2k10 gets polished it will compete with the show no question. They are both very different games.
To be honest if you like hitting(which everyone does) chose 2k9. I absolutely hate hitting in The Show. It's way too much work. Guess the pitch and location by pressing R2. If you guess correctly youre rewarded by knowing the location and pitch and then just tap the X or Square button and your good to go. That is a stupid concept. In 2k9 its very simplified. You just think of what pitch is coming and where its going to be located. Then chose the direction of your hit, load up your swing by pulling back the RS, and push up to hit. It's much more fun and realistic IMO. The fielding is way better in The Show. As for the pitching I think the show just edges out 2k9. 2k9 is just way too easy to pinpoint pitches although this last patch has helped that. The Show however is harder because of the pitch meter. It's not as fun because all you do is tap a button for what pitch you want. While in 2k9 you use the RS.
I would say if you want a more fun game and you don't mind some of the dumb plays the CPU makes than get 2k9. If you want a more polished smoother looking game get The Show. I enjoy both games very much. I am really looking forward to getting a good slider set and Opening Day rosters to start my Twins franchise.Last edited by bwiggy33; 04-07-2009, 01:10 PM.NHL-Minnesota Wild
