    So is franchise unplayable?

The reason i ask is because i play baseball titlea for strictly franchise use. I enjoyed 2k8 but wanted 2k9 for more up to date rosters. Do bugs such as the fatigue issue, wrong stats, and others make franchise unplayable in 2k9? If it does i al going to start working on rosters for 2k8.

I would like to know more about this as well. I was thinking of picking the game up now that its been patched.

I ask because before the game came out i read alot of reviews that said franchise just fell apart after year 1 and teams and rosters got completely messed up.

How is the cpu roster management throughout the season? are there crazy trades or do things hold together throughout the season realistically?

I would also like to know. Anyone? Please chime in about the stats in the sim engine. Baseball is a stat driven game and if they are way out of whack it just doesn't seem right.

      Thanks.

        Re: So is franchise unplayable?

Here are things that I have seen myself in Franchise mode in MLB 2K9:
        • Duplicate players on rosters...I has two Ted Lillys in my pitching staff at one point.
        • Extremely low save totals for closers...25 led the league one season.
        • After a few seasons, teams keep a strict 22-man MLB roster with only 10 pitchers...low compared to real life totals.
        • Having to send down an injured player to the minors to get them off of the DL.
        • Prospects in the draft are mostly 5' 8" tall.
        • Freezing problems...although I have only encountered this once, others say it is more prevalent.
Here are some things I have read that occur in Franchise mode from other gamers here and at 2k's forums, but haven't viewed myself:
        • After players are sent down to the minors and then recalled, they change appearance.
        • A few years into it, HR totals for most players in the league are in the 20-30 range...someone said that Ryan Theriot hit 30 bombs in one year!
        • Odd stat glitches dealing with pitches either getting or not getting credit for thirds of innings pitched.
        • Attendance means nothing in terms of budget.
        • The 1-day injury glitch which forces you to sim a game in order for a player to heal from a 1-day injury.

Franchise isn't bad at all actually. Stats are suprisingly accurate, you will see what looks like a questionable trades but once you look further into it you will see that one team is not performing very well and they are trying to dump salary and the other is preparing for a playoff run. The offseason ai is much improved post patch. The top prospects list is working now. Cons are the incoming rookies are still undersized, save stats are still way low with the leauge leader averaging between 25 and 32 saves. Overall I'd have to say its not too bad, I enjoy it anyway

Franchise is unplayable for me since I am waiting for updated rosters. I assume that they will be available next week.

so let me ask your guys' opinions on this then:

knowing what you know now about the players fatigue problem (not getting rested on off days) and the one day injury issue, would you advise someone looking to start a franchise (when rosters come out) to play with fatigue off and injuries off?

I know that takes realism out of it and would never think to do this in a "normal" situation, but does it make sense to with these bugs present, or are they more an annoyance than a deal breaker??

what is the fatigue bug in franchise? they dont get rest on off days? so....they just keep getting worn down week after week and you can't ever get them back to 90-100% energy again for the rest of the season? or if you sit them out a day the team is playing do they get rest?

I also have been waiting for the updated rosters and finishing all my custom music setup before starting up my frachise...so I didnt catch this info the first time around i guess...

A mod at the 2K forums stated that the next Living Roster update will be available tomorrow at the latest.

And as the fatigue/off-day issue goes, I have not noticed this. Players do seem to regain stamina after days without games. What I have noticed is that, for example:

I give Milton Bradley the day off in right (let's say he's at 60% stamina) and play Joey Gathright.

Late in the game, I pinch hit Bradley for my pitcher. He proceeds to fly out on the first pitch.

Despite the fact he sat out the entire game and only swung at one pitch in an AB, he is still at 60% stamina the next day. In real life, you'd think he'd gain some stamina back by sitting out and not really doing anything of significance.

I turned them both off. Manny is still injured and has been since the first game but with it off it doesn't have any actual effect other than annoying me to tell me he's injured after every game. I also turned fatigue off and haven't gotten anything back for people but they're all at 96 or more so it's not that bad.

oh ok, so its like dealing with Manny....if you promise him a day off - its a day off! no pitch hitting, full mental day off...hehe..

I think ill keep fatigue ON then to force me to play the reserves some games...use righty/lefty matchups etc...

Does the injury bug only affect those with one day injuries? Jason Schmidt has been injured for one day forever and I just found out its a bug by reading this forum. I've been playing The Show as my main baseball game. Matt Kemp just went down with a 15 day injury. Will the injury glitch affect him? Or will he come back like he's supposed to?

i was reading somewhere (here or 2k forums) that even after the all-star break, players on the user's team were still tired from their last game played. that's kind of what i was asking. I guess if you sub your players and play a game with them on your bench for the whole game, they will rest up. What people were complaining about was if you played on, say a sunday for example, and had an off day monday, on your next gameday (tuesday), your players would still have fatigue -- fatigue isn't lessened on off days. I guess that's not a huge deal to me, as i will sub my players. The injury bug seems to worry me more...

                              Re: So is franchise unplayable?

i went ahead and did some investigating on the fatigue issue last night after reading these post and this is what i came up with through simulation and looking into lineups before the games begin.

1- the off day is meaningless cause in fact no one regains stamina.

2- with #1 being said,if you rest your starter(s) for bench players for that game and dont use them, their stamina goes back to 100 or somewhere in the mid 90s,which is fine with me.

3-the only problem i see is that only the hitters and fielders get rest after all star break, but not the pitchers. for one game everything gets out of whack for at least the opposing teams pitcher for the 1st game back as he would start with a 55-75 stamina. everything kinda goes back to normal after that.

4-pitchers when their turn is up will recoup from anywhere between 92-100. not a big deal.

some people have to understand that baseball is a marathon, not a sprint. to me with the exception of all star break,i see no issue with fatigue.
