Re: The FIELDING in this game is TERRIBLE....

Two biggest complaints that I haven't seen mentioned:

    1. the double and triple clutching. Any grounder gets a runner home from third because the players animations take so long to release the ball, even when the throw is preloaded.

    2. no momentum. When a SS runs full bore to his right to get to a ball deep in the hole, he shouldn't be able to just dig his foot in instantly and stop, turn, and fire to first kicking off his back foot. More likely, he should be jumping and turning to throw across his body, or at the very least, not being able to kick off his back foot like that.

Well, 100% agreed that fielding is terrible in 2k9, but I don't think you'll find any support that either 2k7 or 2k8 were among the "best" fielding baseball games. MVP 2005 was arguably the game that it was because of the fielding animations and mechanics. MLB The Show "borrowed" a lot of the pitching and fielding from MVP, but is considered a very good fielding game in its own right now. I can't remember ever playing a 2k baseball game where the fielding worked well. Even the last gen games, the fielding "functioned", but they slowed the ball down so much to make it work that it never felt like you had a real hit.

Been biting my tongue, but after the PATCH, this game has gone down-hill in my eyes. They had a chance to fix some of the most glaring issues the game had (OUTSIDE of AI Aggressiveness) & in typical 2k fashion they dropped the ball.

I'm beyond frustrated with this game. Like Trevttrev said "How do you remove stuff that worked well & add stuff that doesn't"

I didn't play 2k8 on 360. I am thinking about going that route, is it a smart move?
          Gaming hard since 1988

I have won like 25 Super Bowls in Madden so I am kinda a big deal.

Ehhh, It's not all that great, though it is better in a couple ways. I'd definitely take 2K9 instead. Despite it's flaws, 2K9 is a better overall game, IMO. I'd take 2K7 over 2K8 as well.

Re: The FIELDING in this game is TERRIBLE....

i guess i am in the minority here. But i, VERY RARELY, have issues fielding. maybe misjudge a flyball here and there, but no real issues.

And pre-patch, in 24 games played only had the 1B glitch in 2 of them. The other 2 times i OVERTHREW to 1B by alot and didnt feel it to be cheap. Also the CPU had the 1B glitch about 2 times as well.

I have a GREAT set of sliders and have been having a blast post-patch. Decent pitch counts, K batters looking, pitchers duels, blowouts and shootouts.

I guess i am trying to say, since this is the ONLY option on 360, i dont think it is a bad one.

I have to agree with BFJ. It's starting to wear on me that I don't play as much as I like too.

I do have great fun playing and think it's a decent game but in the end it's really letting me down. My son did just pick up that other game so I've been sneaking into his room to play it and maybe that's got me a little amped.

Re: The FIELDING in this game is TERRIBLE....

The fielding in this game is the worst I have ever seen. Today I'm playing Twins vs. Blue Jays and a ball hit to Center field can of corn and it hits off of Gomez's shoulder. Didn't the say that would be addressed in the patch. Good lord I almost can't take it anymore with the fielding. In fact in my three years of playing the 2k baseball franchise the fielding has been brutal in all three games. This one is by far the worst though.

The diving is absolutely terrible as well. There is almost no possible way to make a diving catch or stop in the infield because the dive button (X) is so unreceptive that the ball just completely wizzes by the fielder and their diving motion will start two seconds after the ball passed them.

I hate to compare it to MVP but how can a Next Gen game be this bad in the fielding department and a old gen game can have silky smooth fielding, diving, throwing etc. I just don't understand it. Fielding is like the biggest part of playing a baseball video game. It is just beyond me how the fielding can be so damn bad.

I'm not going to lie I haven't made many errors or had too many problems with fielding pre patch or post patch but even when I do make a successful play it just feels terrible. I also noticed that the outfielders love to do this glitch where they are running after a ball and they make a cutting motion like a running back in football which makes them take about two seconds longer to get the ball or make them miss a catch. 2k in baseball their job isn't to deke out defenders it's to catch the ball or cut a ball off to stop the baserunner from advancing further. It is the glitchiest thing I have noticed in this game.

Yeah, agree totally with this post. I was convinced enough in the merits of this game to buy it, even after learning about the glitches, but I had to do a trade-in after a few weeks (and after the patch did little to address it) because the fielding ruins any chance of playing a decent game. It's just horrible.

I don't agree, I'm not having any problems fielding, whether it's charging towards a ball in the infield or outfield, fly balls, line drives and I hit the left trigger before I make a catch and I don't drop balls or have them go over my head. I did not have the first base glitch prior to this patch either. I did drop 2 fly balls before someone mentioned the LT. I like the fact that it feels like I have more control than in the past. Go figure. Post patch, I'm loving this game from top to bottom. I am very pleased with 2k9 and I haven't touched one single slider. Oh well........

The 2nd patch helped a lot IMO. I don't expect them to be perfect, or perfect the game w/ a patch and I agree that there are still some major issues...those aside I'm still having a blast...Even if Raul Ibanez let a routine flyball turn into a triple last night because I couldn't get him aligned perfectly in the little yellow circle .

Seriously, fielding glitches have happened a handfull of times to me in like 48 user played games. My only issue w/ them is the one like I mentioned w/ Ibanez above counted as a triple and not an error.

2K9 is a better game IMO. I had fun w/ 2K8, but the framerate issues were a major hinderance. Franchise as a lot more bells and whistles, but some even more annoying nuances.

For instance, injuries...Pitchers never get injured. I know w/ MLB 2K9 there are some that don't like the amount of injuries some of their teams have sustained, but it's far better to have more than barely none at all. I've ran into the 2K9 injury glitch, but anytime it's happened has been to a player who was never on the DL. To alleviate it I just turned injuries OFF, simmed a day forward, and the player was removed like they should've been due to healing.

AI trading is better in 2K9, and if you leave it ON in 2K8 there's a flurry of crazy trades which breaks the 'chise mode IMO.

All in all 2K9, playing wise, is much more fun than 2K8, and the 'chise mode is suitable enough for the first VC installment to give me my baseball fix.

I was literally 2-11 in my franchise, and they were all close games. I was losing like 4-2 over and over again because I had to work my butt off (with cursor batting) to manufacture runs, and the opponent would either get a 3-run homer or some innocent flyball would drop behind my fielder and end up being a triple, etc.

There are "workarounds" I could've used to make the game work better. Some people told me "only use swing stick batting" or "just let the CPU do the fielding for you." Okay, but if I can't aim at pitches while batting, and if I don't control 50% of what goes on in the field, why don't I just watch baseball on TV? Seriously, check out ESPN or your local team in HD...the framerate is much better, and fielders tend to catch flyballs without holding down LT. Haha

The patch changed fielding a great deal. I hated it at first, but I've adjusted now and like the changes.

Before the patch, easing off the left analog stick allowed the fielder to enter into a "canned" fielding animation and take care of the ball. Problems popped up with late movements that "jerked" the player out of that animation.

Easing off the stick now does nothing but stop the fielder in his tracks. It led to a several missed fly balls (and lots of frustration) during my first few games after the patch. But now I know -- just haul *** to the yellow circle and let go of the stick. I haven't had a problem in several games.

All that said, fielding does need some work. Fielders do not always move in the direction you want them to and the entire experience in the field could be smoothed out a bit. I had a chance to play the demo for The Show while shopping this weekend. I think that games takes too much control out of the user's hands, but there's no denying it is a smooth experience.

My fielders have slowed down tremendously post-patch. It's very annoying to have shallow fly balls constantly go for base hits.
