do what i did, I have my PS3 set up on my flat panel PC monitor. She walks in and thinks Im gaming on my PC, and Ill be playing THE SHOW.
I bought the PS3 after she said no and that I was nuts. when she does find out she'll flip, but that might be years from now.

THE SHOW 08 and 09, COLLEGE HOOPS 2k8 are the only PS3 games I have. dont know if Ive gotten my ROI yet.

side note 2k9 is a good game. I eliminated the so called bugs by playing on a default level (post patch) , and just lowering the errors, and the AI pitch success, AI zone tendency. (PC VERSION)

as a ps3 and 360 owner it's safe to say i will not play mlb for a while... i just don't see them catching up... the second base pickoff thing made me so mad...

i was actually banned on the 2k forums for saying the show is a better game...

Re: The future of MLB 2K and you?

Funny thing is I use to get pissed at people coming to this forum and talking down 2K and pumping up The Show but that looks like it has changed as it's us ourselves doing it and jumping ship.

Hell I don't belong here anymore I eBay my game for 40 bucks but I have been around here so long it's hard not to stop by especially since I worked real hard year after year making 2K baseball a better game to play.

Funny thing is about The Show there are a few so called slider gurus but you really can't even call them that because it don't take much out of the box to adjust The Show but 2K man it's a lot of hours in to get that game tuned right.

Last year it took me over 200 games to have a final set this year I gave up before I played even 20 games or so and jumped ship.

I was one that said The Show is old gen and a button pushing game but I was wrong it's better the the pitching in 2K becuase it hard and the hitting is even hard then 2K.

Now I believe the stick stuff is over rated and over hyped and implemented incorrect for hitting and pitching.

I'll preface this by saying I'm not a huge baseball fan and own both a 360 & a PS3. From what I've played of The Show I can tell it's polished to a spit-shine and likely needs little changes to play a certain way, where 2K9 needs tweaking even post patch. Still, MLB2K9 is very enjoyable for me post-patch; before the patch I found the game to be somewhat boring. I just find 2K's approach to be really refreshing and engaging (right stick hitting/pitching/throwing; their presentation approach; animations). Post patch there are still quirks, but what's there is definitely fun to play and shows a lot of upside going forward (imo)

LOL!! How do you hide your PS3 from view?

Also: You're lucky that your PC monitor is HDCP compliant. I'd have to buy a new monitor along with the PS3 to do what you did.

Re: The future of MLB 2K and you?

I think 2k sports needs to change their image. In other words, start from scratch. I remember when EA sports realized that its Triple Play series was starting to get some negative reviews year after year. Instead of continuing their trend, their marketing department reacted quickly and did one hell of a job when they decided to change the name of their franchise, completely overhaul their gameplay, and offer it at a low price (remember MVP 05 for $19.99).

If 2k sports wants to stay competitive, they should change their name, especially now with a new developer in place. Let consumers know that you are taking this seriously and are willing to develop a good product. Hell, if I worked for their PR/Marketing department, the first thing I would do is change the name and image (easier said than done, but can be done). Then I would offer the game at $49.99 instead of $59.99 in order to get lost customers to try it once again for a cheaper price.

That is fine and all of that if it wasn't exclusive, I mean when they bought out MLB rights they should have a plan but they didn't. Imagine all of that wasted money that they spent on that when they could have just taken over the genre with a high quality title now they are getting their asses handed to them by a PS3 exclusive game.

My personal man room, its an elaborate set up. I have an in home audio recording studio I have 2 pc's. I just have it set up in between my 2 pc's but I also have a crate sort of in front of it where I keep cables etc to quickly patch things with. (my quick grab crate)

all the cables and equipment I have kind of scares her. On top of that I have a wireless network setup so when she's on her pc she doesnt need to come turn on any modems or anything. the printer is even on there. so she can print from her laptop pc. all she does is walk into the room and get what she has printed.

I think she knows I have the PS3. I'll know when she brings home some expensive shoes or something. she's probably saving it as ammo!!!.

why would you change the 2K name. IMO that would be the wrong move.
when folks think of 2ksports they automatically think quality sim sports.
The baseball title needs some work, but that title is headed in the right direction.
This years version has some great features for game play in place, they just need fine tuning.

The PC version post patch is a solid game, and IMO the gap between THE SHOW and 2k9 has closed.

All their other sports titles have been consistently good.

changing the 2k name is like taking away the EASPORTS its in the game". some things just work

I don't think he meant change 2K Sports...just MLB 2K. When EA changed their baseball game, they didn't change EA, their corporate name, just Triple Play to MVP.

Also, I don't know for sure that people relate 2K to quality sports sim titles anymore...espcially if you are a baseball fan. Football fans will still hold NFL 2K5 on a pedastal, but that was five years ago and it seems as if people are beginning to grow tired of the NBA series.

If you are a baseball fan, maybe a change would be good, though obviously it won't mean crap if the game is broken, but they are going on year number 4 of sub-par baseball games.

However their 2K in the games title is consistant acorss almost all of their sports games, so I doubt they will be changing it any time soon.

Re: The future of MLB 2K and you?

I'm just sick in general of developers exploiting sports fans with ****ty games.
Knowing that when pre-season rolls around sports fans will be excited and optimistic enough to roll the dice on the game being good(Which it never is)

I mean what sports games have been good in the past 5 years?
MLB 08 The Show & NHL 09...thats it.

I'd like to think 'oh if EA still made MVP or oh if 2K still made NFL 2K it'd be amazing' but looking at their recent history I doubt they actually would be good.

                          *Sigh*

Its not even the exclusive thing; I mean 2K had the competition of MLB 08 The show to live up this year and have released from what I hear a terribly buggy game(That I'm only buying because I despair at 09 The Show)

That gap has closed? Depends on what you're referring to. 2K9 is the same old untested, half-broken, buggy mess that 2K always manages to put out. As for the comment about the rest of their sports titles: you're obviously not a hockey fan. The only difference between their baseball and hockey titles, is the baseball games sometimes get patches to try and fix all the broken stuff. With their hockey series, 2K doesn't even bother.

I predict you'll learn to appreciate The Show again in the near future... like 5 minutes after popping 2K9 in your console and firing up a game.

                                Half-empty or half-full....

Unlike past games, 2k9 is actually enjoyable and plays a good game of baseball. Yes, it is extremely frustrating with all the bugs, but when it comes down to it isn't the point of video games to be fun?

I agree with him, the gap is closing and once the developers finally decide to get their feet set and try to make this game what it has the potential to be there won't be a gap anymore.
