I actually already own MLB 09 The Show for the PS2. You can never have too many baseball games

I actually prefer 08 to 09 because it doesn't have the fielding flaws that 09 does. But I agree with your message, 2k9 for ps2 is probably the same as 2k5 just updated rosters(because that's what 2k6 and 2k7 were).

i'm 66 games into my season and have no idea what fielding flaws you are talking about. What do you mean?

Seriously, I thought 08 had flaws since errors were so damn rare. At least in 09 errors actually occur and are a part of the game...and in a realistic manner.

3b and 1b letting balls that are very catchable go right by them. The wrong fielder being selected at times, and the outfielders inability to pick up a ball that bounces off the wall causing doubles to become triples.

I would love to go back to 08 but the fact that you never see any throws sail by a fielder was a flaw I couldn't get over. Now if somebody were to tell me that it does happen (even if rarely), I may reconsider.

Well, I was in the minority of those who saw them, so I know it's not a problem with everyone. The first and most prevelant problem I had was my outfielders not trying to field a line drive that bounces in front of them, for some reason the would let it roll past them. Second, and not as big a deal the CPU infielders would take bad routes to balls that were softly hit fly balls near the outfield grass and miss them when it could've easily been caught, this did not happen a lot though. Lastly on bunts that were poped up to the CPU pitchers they let it fall and then tried to throw out the runner who was almost always safe.

I know 08 had some issues, and I know it wasn't perfect but the issues were easier for me to deal with than the one's I experienced in 09. Like I said before though, there was a very small amount of people who said they had problems like this so it did not effect the majority.

Ok...those do happen, but I have to say that they happen rarely in my experience. There is a technique to picking the ball up off the wall that is hard to explain, but I've noticed that I have an easier time getting the 'rebounds' now than I did at first.

And honestly, sometimes it happens in real life.

I've experienced all those things but never the extent that it was endlessly annoying or decided any games.

MLB 2k9 was a circus act in the field...at least for the 360. Maybe the ps2 isnt so bad.

Hmm...I've never had any of those issues.

The ones I could NOT deal with were in 08 when a ground ball would be hit up the middle and would go right through my shortstop who was easily in position to make the play. It always happen late in the game which caused me to suspect foul play (no pun intended) on the AI's part.

...I still remember the straw that broke the camels back when a ball got through with two outs allowing the inning to continue as the next batter (Griffey Jr.) would hit a grand slam.

Thats the only time I've ever turned the game off and vowed to quit. Of course, a few weeks later I was back.

Yeah, they were definitely secluded to just some people because a lot of people were saying that they hadn't experienced them either. I still think the game is way better than 08 overall, but the issues were too much. The ball going through my SS/2B in 08 was really annoying to me too, luckily it never cost me the game or I would've said the same thing as you. I do still use 09 for RTTS though because they fixed the glitch where the game would occasionally freeze after the game in the clubhouse.

I think the ps2 version of 2k9 probably has better fielding than the 360 version if it's still the same from 2k5-2k7 because the fielding wasn't terrible in those games.

As bsb mentioned, the balls hit down the line and the lack of response by the 3b and 1b really annoys me in The Show 09 for PS2. There also appears to be a comeback code in the game as more times than not if you put up a big inning, the CPU will answer back with one of their own. The targeting of OF on gappers also frustrates me.

I still like the game but actually set it down for a while and went to MVP NCAA Baseball 07.
                      Currently Playing:
                      MLB The Show 25 (PS5)

Well I just got this game and will give it a go later on. I'm not expecting a whole lot though. I've been playing The Show for years now on the PS2 and I think I just need a change of pace. Hopefully it well at least be decent. I thought 2k5 was ok, so if its like that game I'll probably be happy.

So everyones batting stance in the game is a generic default stance, and I have no idea what the hell is up with that. Whats funny is that when you go to edit player, all of their stances are available. I'm not about to try and edit every single players stance in this game.

Looks like I may have wasted 20 bucks, but oh well, I still have The Show.

Second, how is the gameplay of 2K9? Does the CPU provide any challenging offense without having to make wholesale edits? Do the sliders do anything? Are there still in game saves or manage mode?
                            Thanks, dude!

I tried to kind of-sort of warn people. The last-gen version was long-ago relegated to "Wish we didn't have to waste resouces on this" status. I'm pretty sure all 2K does is haul some poor sap off the next-gen team for a week and ask him/her to throw a roster update together. The game definitely does not get much love -- the polar opposite of SCEA's commitment to the PS2 version of The Show.

I only got to play a couple of innings or so last night. I'm not very used to the newer 2k baseball games so the cpu was knocking me around a little, but that probably had more to do with me not being very familiar with the pitching system.

There is a manger mode very similar to the simulcast mode in The Show. I didn't see an option for in game saves...it only gave the option to simulate to the end of the game or manage to the end of the game. I haven't touched the sliders yet.

Truth be told, judging by my first impression, if you already have The Show 09 or another baseball game your pretty happy with....I wouldn't recommend anyone get this one. The game just had a "funky" feel to it imo.
