What are your realistic expectations for this game?

With High Heat up until about 02, MVP Baseball till 05, and The Show the past few years these seem to be the premium baseball games if you want to play classic type games. Me being a 360 owner I've been stuck with 2k the past several years. 2k7 i liked. I wouldnt consider it a classic but it was a pretty good game. 2k8 was terrible. 2k9 was an improvement in areas and just got worse in others and was pretty much unplayable after a while. Something went screwy somewhere when Brinkman took over and left. Will we ever see a baseball game on the 360 that we can be proud of and say hey this game is really good? I miss the days of being able to play a sports game and say i really like this game.

I've read the previews and read up and it all looks good, but what are your realistic expectations? Is this just a case of people being desperate for anyone to release something decent on the 360, or will we actually see a game we can say this game is really good.

Re: What are your realistic expectations for this game?

It's hard to have any concrete expectations since there is surprisingly little insight into how the game will play out. I'll also preface my thoughts by saying that if I purchase the game, it will be for the PC, so I'm probably more forgiving than some on graphical/overlay type stuff as that's easily fixable on the PC.

That said, my realistic expectation (meaning what i feel the game should have been able to achieve) is that it will be very similar to 2K9 (in terms of the representative play-style) but should be tightened up/more polished. I expect the pitcher/hitter match-up to feel more realistic (since VC claimed it was their focus), and the fielding debacle from last year to have been addressed at least somewhat.

I expect commentary to be quite good and the addition of MLB Today to really enhance the franchise commentary and immersion. Aside from that, I really don't expect to see too much improvement to presentation. I expect visuals to be just okay, but certainly good enough. Franchise should actually be a fun mode again and My Player sounds like it's a solid first-step. I expect animations to be hit or miss based on the little we've seen, but "signature styles" to still be a strong point.

Long story short, I expect a decent to respectable baseball game that is a clear improvement over what 2K9 started. Nothing necessarily wowing, but something that can make me confident that 2K has finally started moving forward in the right direction. I think my expectations are extremely fair and can realistically be achieved. Anything beyond that would be a pleasant surprise for me.

As I said in another thread, anyone looking for a great game may be disappointed (not definitely, but quite possibly). However, if people can temper their expectations to looking for a marked improvement over 2K9, it may be good enough and some might even be pleasantly surprised. We'll see.

My expectations are low. Very low. Low enough to think that I won't be purchasing the game this year. I am open to this game being a big improvement over 2K9 and if that's the case, I'm more than willing to purchase. I am a forgiving consumer and if a company comes back with a good product after a disappointment, I'll support that. I just won't blindly spend my money on something that doesn't deserve it, though.

I think if this year's game bombs, the series is all but done, and we probably won't see a good baseball game on the 360 until EA comes back.

Perfect analysis. I feel the same way.

Just come back with a solid effort, 2K. If you do that, you'll be moving in the right direction to win some consumers back. If not, you're toast.

I expect the game to be better than last years. Plain and simple. I don't expect to see stupid fielding glitches like last year. I expect a playable game that I won't have to put down after 2 weeks of playing.

My expectations are for a very hyped game that has glaring bugs that make it a slight disappointment.

I would play 2k9 if they fixed the majority of the problems. If 2k10 has realistic stats and no bugs that affect gameplay, then I would consider it a huge success.

I expect the game to be bad. They're definately holdin' out, because gameplay videos would've been out by now if they were proud of their work.

I think the game will be better. What I am scared about is the fact that they spent all this time with this My Player feature. I hope that they realized the amount of work they needed to do on both gameplay, graphics, and framerate. I don't like the fact that all they seem to be talking about is My Player yet they haven't shown any gameplay videos. I think I'm gonna buy the game this year though.

I just read over some of your other posts and it seems that you'd rather play the other game. Most of your posts on this board are negative to the fact you don't think 2k will make solid game.

On the other hand, you are all about defending the other game which is fine but, you're not contributing anything positive to this thread. Are you planning on buy 2k when it comes out? If not, why are you wasting your time posting on a topic that doesn't effect you one way or another?

Not trying to bash you in any way, I just don't understand this that's all. You don't need to make me understand either. I was just making a point, which is, why people who have no desire to play this game continue to put it down?

                  Just my .02

P.S. NBA 2k10 had trailers shown and that was it. They are definitely proud of their work. That's just the way 2k markets their products. The don't put out a ton of game play vids.

I expect it to look graphically similar to last year, play a little smoother, and be a little more difficult. I think a lot of the bugs and annoyances with last year's game will be fixed... but I do expect their to be some problems, because 2K always seems to have almost-game-killer bugs.

Re: What are your realistic expectations for this game?

I think people are going to be surprised how much better this game looks and plays. I was thinking the same things and not expecting too much.

I was just checking out this website though.

                      http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=255070052126&ref=mf#!/MLB2K?v=app_2392950137

These videos are all super high quality and can be viewed full screen. The game informer blog talked about this feeling like a completely new game. Reading the 1st insight as well they talked about revamping the stadiums completely, rebuilding the player models from teh ground up creating new skeletons where they have much more control over how a player animates. NBA 2k10 did some of this as far as facial animations and stuff. Improved cloth physics, lighting etc....

I'm watching these videos full screen and I'm finally starting to see what they've done and what this game might be like. I think people are going to be in for a pleasant surprise. Those of you expecting just an improved 2k9 might be surprised how different this game is. Not to say they won't drop the ball in some area, but the physics in this game look crazy.

The point is, some of the outer coating might looks similar but this games physics has been rebuilt from the ground up. They completely overhauled this game.

All that I want is for it to play a solid game of baseball! I do not think that is asking for too much.

I understand that, and that's what we are all here to do. But, it just doesn't seem like you have anything positive to say about this game.
