    Re: MLB 2K10 Franchise Progress

Hey guys, sorry for the delay.

Ive been bouncing around between 3 different franchise files, mostly because I just cant decide who I want to use. I was hoping for some input here -

    1) Rockies Chise. Updated 20 of 30 team contracts, but I got kind of bored with them. I may go back to them at some point but for now eh.

    2) Fantasy Drafted Team w/ Orioles. I like playing Fantasy teams alot, and I found myself pretty addicted to this team right away. That being said, I dont know, I kind of want a realistic franchise as well. Ive definitely played this one the most lately.

    3) Yankees chise. I have fully updated downloaded rosters for this one (mkharsh's), and I just love playing with my Yanks. Its alot of fun and mkharsh's roster is pretty sweet. That being said, I dont want to update contracts with this chise, so I may just choose not to. Idk.

    What do you guys think?

I say play whichever one you have the most fun with. I mean I play with the cubs, because I love the team in real life, and in the video game I love playing with guys like Aramis Ramirez, Derek Lee, Carlos Zambrano etc.

You probably shouldn't let the messed up free agency/contracts issue dictate which one you play with becuase if you're not having fun playing the games, how are you even going to reach free agency?

        Re: MLB 2K10 Franchise Progress

Ill probably stick with my Yankee one for now , and play my fantasy when I get bored. lol.

Anyway, Ill update as the Yankees from now on. Ill be doing a play 1 game a series, play 2 the next, then play 1 etc. format.

        Beginnings of Season

@ Boston: Only played one game in this series just because Ive played Yanks/Sox alot as of late. Simmed and won the first game 8-3, but lost the 2nd game (which I played) 5-2. It was Lackey vs. Vasquez, and Lackey really shut me down despite giving up 2 runs - he worked out of trouble alot ( I think I hit into like 3 DPs). I would lose the 3rd game as well, 7-3. Burnett didnt pitch that great. I hope hes not a liability for me this season.

@ Tampa Bay: Simmed first game and won 10-5, strong offensive output. I would play the 2nd game, which was Hughes first start, and win 9-3. Hughes pitched really well, striking out 8 over 7 innings and giving up only 5 hits. The big blow was a 2-run homerun from Pena, but that was really it. Mitre came into shut the door for the final 2 innings. Bout to play the 3rd game now - Sabathia vs. Shields.

          Re: MLB 2K10 Franchise Progress

I couldn't get into my old franchise because I just wasn't feeling the team I was using. So I decided to scratch that franchise and start a new one. This time around I went with the San Diego Padres because: 1. I really like playing in Petco Park, 2. I like their uniform selection and 3. They're somewhat of a home team. I opted to do another fantasy draft and this is my team.

          C: Joe Mauer
          1B: Casey Kotchman
          2B: Ben Zobrist
          3B: Ryan Zimmerman
          SS: Elvis Andrus
          LF: Michael Bourn
          CF: Andrew McCutchen
          RF: Nelson Cruz

          Pitchers
          Zack Greinke
          Erik Bedard
          Tommy Hanson
          Joba Chamberlain
          David Price

          Relief
          Ronald Belisario
          Neftali Feliz
          Hong-Chih Kuo

          Setup
          Joel Zumaya

          Closer
          Carlos Marmol

I'm about midway through the month of April and so far my team is surprisingly undefeated at 12-0. As a matter of fact, the Padres are the only undefeated team in the league. I played 5 games and simmed 7. Here are some notables about my team:

Joe Mauer is leading the league in AVG at .444 with 4 HR and 13 RBI
Nelson Cruz and Ryan Zimmerman both have 13 RBI as well.
Andrew McCutchen is on a slump with a .175 AVG and an OBP of .19.

My pitching has been excellent so far.

Erik Bedard is 3-0 with a 1.08 ERA (all CPU controlled).
Zack Greinke is 3-0 with a 3.47 ERA and leads the league in K with 32.
David Price, Joba Chamberlain and Tommy Hanson are all 1-0.
Carlos Marmol has 4 S with an ERA of 1.50.

          Around the league:

Colby Rasmus of the Rangers is leading the league with 7 HR and 19 RBI.
Cole Hamels has the second best ERA at 1.14 and 27 K and is 3-0.
Ryan Braun of the Tigers is out with a discolated shoulder for 72 Days.
Bronson Arroyo of the Dodgers gets a milestone and gets his 1000 K.
Jason Kubel of the Pirates just had a 7 RBI game.

I have a 4 game lead on the Giants (8-4) and I'm about to start a 3-game series agaisnt them. They'll have Jorge Del La Rosa, Kenshin Kawakami and Eric Milton on the mound. Luckily I won't have to face their 2 Aces in CC Sabathia and Josh Beckett.

I love Joba but people steal bases like crazy when he comes in the game. I usually have to take him out if there's a lot of speed that reaches the bases. He throws gas though.

David Price is pretty sick. I threw a 3 run CG (all with 2 outs in the ninth, he had noodle arm) with him the other night.

So i went ahead and released jermaine dye because i found it a little unfair having him in my lineup.

I've been pondering some trades though. I saw that Gil Meche of the Royals was having a terrible year and was thinking of either swapping Ryan Dempster or Kosuke Fukudome for him. They all have similar contracts and are under performing. I feel it would be more fair if it was Dempster for Meche because the royals already have a crowded outfield. I also saw that david dejesus was having a terrible year only hitting .177 and possibly throwing in nady to the deal to get dejesus. Dejesus would be that left handed right fielder i want, but his contract is a little high for what he brings to the table.

Any thoughts/opinions on these possible deals would be appreciated.

11-7 through 18 games of my yearly Reds season, this is the 13th year that I will be playing a whole season with the Reds. I am a complete dork as I have all the stats written down at home for all 13 years I have done this.
Anywho like I said I am 11-7 with the Reds, I am using the newest Holy Grail sliders. These sliders are great as I am getting realistic games and stats.
I used the OS BFJ set for about the first 8 or 9 games and it was really easy to hit with them. My team BA after 9 games was over .400, since switching to the Holy Grail sliders the last 9 games I am batting .277.
                Player stats below:
                Player, BA, HR, RBI
                Bruce .344, 7, 20
                Votto .366, 2, 12
                Phillips .333, 1, 12
                Gomes .500, 2, 9 (not a misprint he is 10-20 batting)
                Hernandez .288, 1, 9
                Stubbs .377, 3, 12
                Cabera .299, 0, 2
                Nix .285, 1, 5

                Player, ERA, W-L
                Harang 4.55, 1-1
                Arroyo 3.99, 2-0
                Cueto 4.88, 2-1
                Bailey 5.00, 1-2
                Chapman 1.20, 2-0
                Cordero 10.57, 1-0, 3 of 7 in saves.
                Masset 1.00, 2-0
                Rhodes 0.00, 2-0

I say stick to the Yanks, and it looks like you've already decided to do that. I'm not a big fan of fantasy drafts anymore. Controlling all-30 teams is the best way to go though.

                    Re: MLB 2K10 Franchise Progress

I love controlling all-30 teams. You can really come up w/ some interesting concepts to keep the franchise play exciting.

I'm almost through the month of May, and what I've begin to do is look around the standings for some struggling teams who I could bring back from the grave (since my Phillies are 29-15); tried to help the Giants in April but that team is just a lost cause .

Anyways, I noticed the Mets are really struggling @ 17-30, and for some reason I feel sorry for them; being from Chesapeake, VA the Norfolk Tides were all we had and they've only recently become the O's AAA affiliate.

Anyways, Johan was 1-6 w/ an ERA in the 4's, and Reyes and Wright are both hitting below .235. The rest of the staff is a mess too (signed Washburn on a 1 yr deal to NYM at the begining of the season and he's stunk it up); K-Rod, Feliciano, and Green have atrocious ERAs too.....Meanwhile the Phillies are 29-15 and 3.5 gms up on the Marlins. I'm not going to let Philly lose this division lead, but I will be playing as the Mets for a period of time...

The first game played as the Mets was the final game of their home subway series -vs- the Yanks; Pettite vs Santana. Johan had it working, and the Mets' bats came alive in the 6th after Pettite had shut me out for 5 innings. Reyes and Castillo scored on David Wright and Carlos Beltran singles, and Francouer gave NYM the lead w/ a 3rHr to go up 5-3. Francouer drove in 2 more when he hit a deep fly to RF w/ 2 outs, and Nick Swisher actually made an error on it; Francouer finished at third driving in Castillo and Wright. I'd eventually tack on a few more runs and win 10-3 to take the series.

Next up was Philly, Maine -vs- Kendrick. Decided to play as the Mets to see what it was like playing against the Phillies. They pummeled me winning 7-3. Howard hit 2 HRs, a 2r bomb in the 1st inning, and Maine was chased out after 3 innings and 6 earned runs. I made a little Met comeback in the B6th w/ a 3r inning. Could've opened it up more and gotten w/in 1 run of tying as there were 2 on w/ 2 outs and Jason Bay coming to the plate, but Kendrick got him to strike out; a HR would've swung some momentum and made it a ball game.

Next up is Halladay -vs- Ollie Perez. I'll be playing as Philly in that one since I'm still pitching all of the Roy Halladay starts.

Halladay is 4-3 w/ a 2.38 ERA. I've gotten a little roughed up w/ him as I've given up 10 hits in each of his last two starts. I've managed to get out of big jams, but have gotten little run support (which is the result of 2 losses in each of his last two starts).

Also played an Angels game just for the hell of it after beating the Yankees. Got a win for the Angels who are now 6 gms over .500 and 1st in the AL West. Pitched w/ Scott Kazmir which was fun, and got some timely hitting to scratch out a 4-3 win over Toronto.

That's why I love playing all-30, at any time you can just pick up and play as another team, and if you really like your experience w/ that team you're free to start using them for however long you want to.<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

                      Re: MLB 2K10 Franchise Progress

                      First off...I love this game.
I started my Dodgers franchise on Friday when I picked up the game. Here is a breakdown of my first 2 series.

                      Dodgers vs Pirates

Game 1: Zach Duke was a real tough guy to figure out on the mound. He went 8 strong innings allowing only 4 hits and a solo HR to Belliard. Billingsley didn't do all that bad either going 6 with only allowing 1 run but Pittsburgh managed to get a run off of Ramon Troncoso in the 7th and held on to win.

Game 2: Another low scoring game, I actually won this game 1-0. The only run came off a 3rd inning solo HR by Matt Kemp. I love how they included Kemp's follow through on the HR. Clayton Kershaw was untouchable, going 8 innings striking out 6 and Broxton came in to the game in the 9th to get his 1st save.

Game 3: My offense finally woke up. The offensive charge was led by Manny and Blake. Manny had a 4-5 game with HR and 2 RBIs and Blake hit 2 HRs. I was up 6-1 in the 9th, but George Sherrill Struggled forcing my hand and I had to bring in Broxton to finish the deal.

                      Dodgers vs Marlins

Game 1: The Marlins were able to get to Padilla early on but once he settled down the fish could not do anything. Andrew Miller was shutting my down early but the 5 run 5th inning was the demise for him. Including a 3 run HR by Belliard and a 2 run HR by Kemp.

Game 2: I really gave it to the Marlins in this one. Winning the game 11-2. James McDonald, who is my 5th starter, pitched excellent. He gave me 6 strong innings, allowing 6 hits, a solo HR by Uggla and he struck out 7. I had 6 doubles in this game, including one by McDonald. Both Blake and Loney had 3 RBIs in this game.

Game 3: Billingsley vs Josh Johnson. I did not stand a chance early on. The Marlins scored 3 in the first inning and added a few more in the later innings to have a 6-0 lead going into the 9th. Johnson was dealing as well, he struck out 12 batters but I managed to hit HRs off him in the 9th with Ethier and Loney to chase him off. I managed to score 2 more runs to make it 6-5 but Leo Nunez managed to strike out Kemp to finish the game.

My next 2 series are against the Diamondbacks and Giants.
I get to face Webb, Jackson, Bumgardner, Lincecum and Cain.

Ha, I should probably expect a drop in attendance . There is a method to my madness though, and I'll explain. He was dominating, and like you said it seemed like he was juicing. I think he would've ended up hitting about 55 or 60 bombs by the end of the year, and he missed the whole first month of the year. Now say I let Derek Lee walk at the end of the year and added Dye for next year, I would not mind those numbers because he'd be replacing a 30-40 HR threat, but adding another one to my lineup I felt gave me too much of a leg up on the competition.<O</O
                        <O</O

I also feel like I can contend without him, and think the money that I get back when I release him will go to better use elsewhere(let's hope I'm right).
Regarding the trades...don't think I'd do Dempster. You want to add arms right? If KC is going to move Meche it's going to be for prospects, or are you trying to take Meche because he has 1 yr left and Dempster has multiple years left?

You are right, I do want to add arms, I'll explain my thoughts on this trade. Both players have an ERA over 7, both teams are within contention of the wildcard and possibly their division. The way I look at this trade is a change of scenery trade where both teams hope that the player they get can rebound there, because with the way things gone it doesn't look like either player will rebound where they are now. The Royals are actually getting back a better pitcher than they are giving, at least IMO. Both players have 2 years on their contracts left, and there's not much of a difference in the salary department(and if DeJesus was in the deal, the salaries would be even). Also, I would probably add one of my minor league pitchers who could be as good as Meche is now(around an 80).
                        <O</O

I still don't know about the DeJesus part of the deal, I figure if he was struggling like this in real life and a team offered a player with 1 year on his contract and a lesser contract the Royals would probably accept it to get them off the hook for the 6M for next season(especially since DeJesus rides the bench). Don't know about it though, I'm going to have to think it over.<O</O
                        <O</O

One other guy I saw when looking through the Royals orginization was Kyle Farnsworth. He's in the minors and is making 4.5 M, so it'll be a risk. If I decide to try and get him in the deal, it'll be because I hope he can solidify the back end of my bullpen, although it's obviously a big risk spending the last of my money on a guy who might flame out(probably why the royals have him in the minors). This would basically be a salary dump for the Royals since they don't use him at all.

Here's the deals I was thinking about possibly-

                        Royals Get:
                        Ryan Dempster(87 ovr)
                        Minor league prospect(around 80 potential)

                        Cubs Get:
                        Gil Meche(80 ovr)

                        or

                        Royals Get:
                        Ryan Dempster(87 ovr)
                        Xavier Nady(77 ovr)
                        Minor league prospect(around 80 potential)

                        Cubs Get:
                        Gil Meche(80 ovr)
                        David DeJesus(around 79 ovr I think)

                        or

                        Royals Get:
                        Ryan Dempster(87 ovr)
                        Xavier Nady(77 ovr)
                        Minor league prospect(around 80 potential)

                        Cubs Get:
                        Gil Meche(80 ovr)
                        David DeJesus(around 79 ovr I think)
                        Kyle Farnsworth(69 ovr)

I think those trades are pretty fair, and I could even get hurt in the future(I plan to play a few seasons, so prospects may come into play) by giving up the prospect but I do want to win now. I know the Royals would look for young players in real life, but given the circumstances(they're in contention, both pitchers could help the other team in the playoff race), I think it could be good for both teams(especially since Meche always seems to struggle in simulations, where Dempster does pretty good). Going to think it over though, it's only early june right now so there's no rush(although my starters have given up at least 6 runs in the past 4 games ).

Playing with a division rival, interesting. Sounds fun playing with any team you want, especially since it gives you a chance to play with a lot of the players and play in different parks.

Are you still looking at Brandon Webb as a posibility for the O's?

I don't think I like any of those deals. I think you should try and swing Meche and DeJesus, for Dempster and a lower rated player than Nady -or- take the Meche/Dejesus/Farnsworth deal and do not include a prospect. If KC is getting the higher rated pitcher, than regardless of Dempster's stats, I think KC should give up a little more. Giving them a prospect is too much.

Yea...I like having the flexibility to play as whomever I want, and I didn't think I'd be using the Mets but I just can't stand seeing such a good SP like Johan getting his numbers wrecked by this sim engine and seeing Wright and Reyes hitting below .235. I'll step in and get them winning some too and make the NL East a 4 team race.

As for the O's, still finding time to play w/ them too, I like pitching w/ Matusz and Uehara so I usually try and make their starts. Instead of getting Webb though I'm leaning towards Oswalt. The Astros absolutely suck, and are fighting the Nats for last place in the NL. I figure they'd be looking to dump some salary, and part w/ Oswalt for perhaps one of my top prospects like SP Jake Arrietta - who BTW is a Texas boy - who I guess I'll be trading for the 2nd yr in a row (traded him in 2K9).

The D'Backs are still putting up a fight in the NL West and are going to hold onto Webb for the meantime.

Oswalt is a better trade candidate.

Thanks for the advice. I wasn't really sure if I should include the prospect or not, but now I think I won't. I think I'll do the Meche/Dejesus/Farnsworth deal without the prospect and take the chance on Farnsworth. Reason I want to put Nady in the trade is because I won't have bench spot avaliable for him after the trade, and he could definitely help the Royals out if he regains form(he's done pretty decent since I called him back up).

Sounds good. Oswalt is a beast and could really solidify the O's, and I definitely think Arrietta would be fair value for a guy like Oswalt. I actually have to face Oswalt in my next game, gonna be a tough one.

                              Re: MLB 2K10 Franchise Progress

Haven't recapped my franchise is a couple days, so here it goes.

Game 1 vs Cardinals- Kyle Lohse was terrible. My team was just teeing off of him, after he continued to leave mistake pitches out over the plate. I put up 10 runs in the first two innings, and would later add two more. Randy Wells had a shaky start going 6.1 IP and allowing 5, but it was enough for the win. Won this game by a score of 12-7.

Game 2- Tom Gorzelanny pitched great, going 7.2 innings allowing just 2 runs. Rich Hill pitched good too, but the Cards took him out after only 4 innings. In the 5th we were able to push across 4 runs off of Trever Miller, and took this game 7-2.

Game 3- Looking for the sweep of the year facing Adam Wainwright. He was unhittable, and I actually did not get a hit off of him(walked once). But for some dumb reason the cpu took him out after 7 innings and I broke up the no no against one of the relievers. Carlos Zambrano pitched great, but got the loss throwing a complete game allowing just 2 runs on 8 hits. Lost this one 2-0.

Game 1 vs Pirates- Ted Lilly pitched awful. Allowed 8 runs in 2.1 innings of work. We were able to score 5 runs off of Zach Duke, but not able to make the comeback. Lost it 8-5.

Game 2- Ross Ohlendorf pitched a gem, only allowing 2 runs on 4 hits. Sean Marshall got roughed up, allowing 6 runs in just 4 innings. Lost 6-2.

Game 3- Trying to avoid the sweep, but to no avail. This time it was Randy Wells getting beat up, letting up 8 runs in 4.1 innings. We only scored 2 runs, and lost 8-2. Dissapointed that I got swept before I swept someone.

Traded Ryan Dempster/Xavier Nady for Gil Meche/David DeJesus/Kyle Farnsworth. Sent Sean Marshall to the minors.

Game 1 vs. Astros- Tom Gorzellany on the hill for me, and allowed 4 runs in 5.1 innings. The bats showed up though, as I scored 7 runs in the first three innings. Went on to win it 8-4.

Game 2- Roy Oswalt vs. Carlos Zambrano. Marlon Byrd hit a solo shot to left center in the 2nd inning to put us up 1-0. Things got bad in the 4th when the Astros scored 4 runs off of Z. Zambrano finished with 6 innings pitched, 4 runs allowed. Down 4-1 in the 7th, we quickly get a couple base hits and score a run. Two men on for the pitchers spot, where I brought in Micah Hoffpauir to pinch hit. He sent the first pitch he saw into the right field seats to give us the lead 5-4. We would tack on another run later. In the bottom of the 8th, I brought in Angel Guzman as usual. He got the first out, then I went to warm up Farnsworth just in case Guzman got in a jam and I accidentally hit "sub pitcher" instead of "warm up" . The Astros hit three dinky singles and pushed across a run, but Farnsworth got out of it with the lead. Marmol came in and shut the door in the 9th to give us the 6-5 win.

Game 3- Gil Meche's debut as a Cub, against Wandy Rodriguez. Wandy had pitched pretty good up until the 5th, just allowing 2 runs. But in the 5th, Aramis Ramirez put deep into the left field bleachers to put us up 5-0. In the 6th the Astros scored 1 run, but it was their only run of the game. We tacked on another run, and Meche continued to pitch great. He was able to go the distance, allowing just one run striking out 6 in the complete game performance. Won it 6-1. Finally swept a team.

It looks like the trade has worked out nicely for both teams so far. Dempster went 8 innings allowing just 2 runs in his Royals debut, and Nady has gone 4-9 as KC's DH. Meche as you just read, pitched a complete game allowing just 1 run. DeJesus has gone 6-13 since coming over and being my no.2 hitter.

I now stand at 32-25 just 6.5 game back of the 39-19 Cardinals. I didn't plan on mentioning the wild card race, but I found it amusing who was just 1.5 games back of me. The 31-27 Padres.

The draft is just one day away, and I start a series with the Brewers tomorrow.

Duke - Sounds like you've had some good games recently, sweeping and being swept. The trade seems to be working out nicely.

I myself just got swept too, by Philadelphia, since my last update stated I would be playing as the Mets. Philly beat me 7-3 in gm1, I played gm2 as the Phillies w/ Roy Halladay starting and had a 1 hitter going into the 6th when the game froze. Ugh....So I simmed the game to keep it moving, and Philly won 8-3; Halladay pitched a CG.

Final game was a pitchers duel. My only run came off of a David Wright solo HR in the 1st, and I had 3 hits total in this one. Philly would tie it at 1-1 in the 2nd too, and it would stay that way until the 10th when Philly would get the go ahead off of Pedro Feliciano. Brad Lidge got the save, and the Mets were swept in 3 games being outscored 17-5.

Got in a gm tonight to start the next series, NYM @ MIL.

Doug Davis was dealing through 4 innings, but had gotten out of a bases loaded jam in the 2nd w/ no outs and was making too many pitches. It all caught up w/ him in the 5th as NYM would score 4 runs in the inning thanks to 2 Jose Reyes steals, stealing 2nd and 3rd, and Luis Castillo knocking in the game's 1st run w/ a single. Davis would walk David Wright for his 3rd walk issued, and Jason Bay made him pay w/ his NL-leading 14th HR, a 3-run shot.

I'd add 4 more runs, 3 in the 8th, one more in the 9th, and Mike Pelfrey ended up pitching his best game of the season in route to a 3-hit/10K shutout; his ERA is now 5.11 after the shutout.

Mets improved to 18-31 w/ the win, Brewers fall to 22-26 (4th in NL Cent.).

Johan up next and I hope to have the same amount of success as Pelfrey did...
