Re: MLB 2K10 Franchise Progress
I'm playing the Reds now with my Pirates. I think ~I~ got ripped off in the Iwamura for Phillips trade. They mentioned how he's top 5 in hits/average.
I'm not sure what's up with the pitching sliders etc. either. They're always getting hits but rarely getting runs.Comment

Re: MLB 2K10 Franchise Progress
Traded Oswalt to the O's last night:
Houston had 3 wins in their last 12 games, and the 2nd worst record in the league behind the Nationals through June 15th. Oswalt was the one bright spot for them sporting a 6-4 record, and 3.30 ERA. However, w/ 3 years left on his contract, and a team heading towards a rebuild, Oswalt's hefty 3yr/$37.60mil contract was moved.
Julio Lugo makes his way back to Houston in the deal. Jeff Keppinger, Edwin Maysonet, and Tommy Manzella had each started games at SS but none of them were hitting over .210. Lugo will move into a platoon w/ Keppinger, who fairs better versus lefties.
For the O's, they're sporting one of the best offenses in the league, and although are only 6 games behind the Yankees, havefound themselves in wildcard contention. Adam Jones, Brian Roberts, Matt Wieters, Luke Scott, and Nolan Reimold have been nothing short of amazing. Starting pitching has been their weakspot though, and adding Oswalt now solidifies their rotation, giving them that needed ace. Oswalt becomes the #1, Millwood moves to #2, Matusz stays at #3, Bergessen moves from #2 to #4, and Koji Uehara remains at #5.
The Deal....
O's send:
SS Julio Lugo
SP Jake Arrietta (top100 prospect)
SP Jeremy Guthrie
Astros send:
Roy Oswalt
Orioles were over budget so I had to edit Oswalt's contract down a couple mill to push the deal through. Lugo still has 2 yrs left, and at $9mil per. However, like we see in trades in real life, where MLB teams agree to pay a portion of a contract when trading a player, I did this as well in a round-about way...
Once the trade went through I edited Lugo's contract, decreasing it by 6 mil on each of the final (2) years, and adding that amount to the O's payroll by 1st editing Oswalt's contract back to it's original amount, and 2nd adding $6mil on the final 2 yrs of Oswalt's current 3 yr contract; which now looks like this:
Year 1: $12.00mil
Year 2: $15.80 mil
Year 3: $15.80 mil
The next move I'm to make likely won't be till the end of June, or maybe even the deadline. With the rebuild underway in Houston, Carlos Lee is getting shipped next. Having been playing as the Mariners, they desperately need a run-producing bat. I've played about 8 games now as the M's, and FINALLY hit my 1st HR w/ Seattle, going yard w/ Casey Kotchman for a 2r bomb @ Petco. However, I'd eventually lose 3-2 in 10 innings to the Padres, due in large part to not being able to get that extra base hit to drive in crucial runs.
I think Carlos Lee could help in that department, BUT it's not a very cost effective move for a Seattle front office that is showing to be salary-conscious team. Another option is Adam Dunn, who has only 1 yr left on his deal, and who I could let expire while trying to make a push for a wildcard spot. I could bring Dunn in, not take on a hefty 3yr deal from Lee, and get compensation picks for Dunn should I let him walk. Seattle is also only 1 game under .500, and still able to push for a playoff spot.
However, they've got a lot of ground to cover as Baltimore is 10-games over .500, AND just added an ace in Oswalt. IF Seattle is to try and get into the postseason, a bat will NEED to be added. I think I do like Carlos Lee better since he has better contact ratings, and still has power vs bothe righties and lefties.
Do I go w/ Carlos Lee who's the better overall player, but has a hefty contract. Or do I go w/ Dunn who has an expiring deal?
Dunn or Lee would be my DH, and Griffey would be relegated to being a lefty power bat off the bench; which sucks but I can't do anything w/ him. Lee could still get spot starts in the field since he's just as good an option as Milton Bradley in RF too. 2B/3B Jose Lopez would be in any deal I make, and would fit much better in w/ Houston. I signed Joe Crede in the beginning of June as an FA, and have him in AAA getting a dozen or so minor league games in before being ready for his call-up to Seattle. He has better fielder ratings at 3B, and brings additional power w/ him. I'd move Jose Lopez, and plug Crede in @ third.Last edited by JBH3; 04-12-2010, 09:50 AM.Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment

Re: MLB 2K10 Franchise Progress
Personally, I'd go with Dunn. Much more power, and it seems like that's what you need. If Kotchman needed a day off at first, you could just plug Dunn in there and then slip Griffey or someone else into the DH spot. Like you also said, there's no risk of taking on that huge contract either, it'll be a one year deal.Comment

Re: MLB 2K10 Franchise Progress
Jeez!! Papi is off to the same start as last year. BA under .200 (.143 last time I checked). I went to the Trade Finder and I got amazing offers!
The Yanks offered me Joba or Gardner, clearly not very realistic. Thinking about moving Lowell to the everyday DH (I actually had a sympathetic moment with him. I pinch hit him for Papi in the 9th with the game on the line, and the announcers were saying something about how he is getting injured and blah blah blah, and he singled in a run to tie the game, and it seemed as though the crowd got louder being that he basically a Sox legend). But anyway, Im thinking about getting another bat in the lineup or maybe a closer.
On a seperate note, off to a 11-11 start going into May.Comment

Re: MLB 2K10 Franchise Progress
Do me favor guys check out Pujols stats in the franchise you are playing.
In mine through 40 games (and he has not been injured) he is batting .247 with 1 (not a typo) hr and 12 rbi's. He is batting .195 with risp.
In my buddies after 33 games he is batting .251 with 2 hrs and 13 rbi's.
I just played a 3 game series vs the Cards and he went 1 for 12 off me.ND Season Ticket Holder since '72.Comment

I'll look at Dunn's attributes again to determine if he'll be right for what I think SEA needs. Appreciate the responses guys...Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment

Re: MLB 2K10 Franchise Progress
In my franchise Albert is doing fine, albeit his HR total is down through 65 games, but he's not having a horrible season:

K's are too high
HR's and RBI are too low
otherwise that's a better stat line than he has in most franchises i've seenI'm a Vince McMahon Guy!

Re: MLB 2K10 Franchise Progress
Wow! I just won in the 18th inning 1-0 over the Giants to improve to 5-1. Derek Lowe and Lincecum each went 11 innings. I had 62 at bats and they had a total of 63. I ended up scoring with 2 outs in the top of the 18th after having Peter Moylan sac. bunt and got the runner over to 2nd. Then Melky Cabrera hit one up the middle and McLouth rounded 3rd and slid head first into home to take the lead.
The game almost went the other way as I escaped the bottom of the first when they had bases loaded.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”
