    Re: MLB 2K10 Franchise Progress

Had my best game of the franchise. O's @ Twins.

Brian Matusz on the mound for the O's against Carl Pavano. I knew it was going to be a great game after the 3rd inning. I had only given up 1 hit, but had struck out 5. Matusz went on to pitch all 9 innings, striking out 11, allowing only 2 hits (both to Jim Thome), and giving up no runs. Everything was working for Matusz, fastball was right around 90MPH, and the curveball was filthy.

I had 13 hits as a team, 2 doubles, and 1 homer (finally). I tried small ball by sacrifice bunting runners over and stringing hits together. I could get the hit and advance the runner to third, but that was as far as I got. 9th inning rolls around and I started getting to Pavano. Started with a double to the wall, followed by another double. Got a single scoring the 2nd run. Then Adam Jones came up and some how, I crushed a bomb to straight center. Matusz came back out in the 9th, striking out Mauer to end the game.

Two straight games with hits in double digits, but only 2 doubles. Hopefully I can keep up the hitting and great pitching.
    Teams:

    NFL - Packers & Browns
    MLB - Brewers & Twins
NCAA Football - Wisconsin, LSU, Virginia Tech
    Soccer - Arsenal, Wolverhampton
    NHL - Wild

Off to a 2-1 start with the Mets. Won the first two games with Santana and Pelfrey, but lost my chance at a sweep thanks to 2 home runs by Dan Uggla (both opposite field) and 14 K's by Volstad, who I just could not get the timing down on at all.

Had an epic going with the Cubs.
I had a no hitter into the 7th with Josh Johnson and they had a 4 hitter with Zambrano. I was up 2-0. One was a solo HR the other was scratched across through small ball.
A few massive Cub blunders later I win 6-0 in what really should've been a 4-2 game.

Doumit and Sizemore seem to have come back down. Jones leveled up and went super ultra mega intergalatic beast mode.

          Re: MLB 2K10 Franchise Progress

I'm midway through September now. Have only played 3 games during the final month of the season which were Halladay's 3 starts in September thus far. He'll pitch two more and the goal is to win 20 games, I'm at 18 right now. Also been chasing the elusive no hitter/perfect game w/ Halladay. Furthest I went hitless was through 6 innings (vs Marlins)...I never walk anyone w/ Halladay so when I do pitch a no no, and I will, it will likely be a perfect game. His next start is sitting up nicely for that quest as I'm taking on the Nationals who are down Ryan Zimmerman and traded away Adam Dunn.

Here's Halladay's lines from his (3) September starts:

          @LAD: 8.0IP 8H 0R/ER 0BB 7Ks; 2-0 win.
          vs FLA: 7.2IP 7H 3ER 0BB 8K; 5-4 win.
          @FLA: 7.0IP 3H 1ER 0BB 7K; 13-1 win.

He's the clear favorite for NL Cy Yong w/ a:
          - 18-5 record -
          - 2.48 ERA -
          - 1.02 WHIP -
          - 182 Ks -
          - 225 IPs in 30 starts -
          - .228 BAA -
          - 7 Complete Games & 4 Shutouts -

His final (2) starts will be @WAS and Vs NYM. His final start against the Mets will be on September 25th, and he'll have the final 7games/8days of the regular season to rest before he takes the mound for his FIRST EVER post season start.

No telling who we'll be up against though. LAD and COL are battling for the NL West w/ Colorado a half game behind the Dodgers. However, the Giants are only 6 games back and still have 13 or 14 games left to play. The Cards will easily win the Central, and stand at 88-60; the Reds are in 2nd place in the Central w/ a 74-75 record, bad yr for the NL Central...

Over in the AL the O's lead the wildcard race by 3.5 games over the Rangers. Baltimore is 84-64 on the season, Texas 80-67. However, Texas is only a half game behind the Mariners. LAA is still holding on @ 76-72, but I don't think they'll be able to make a push so it looks like a new team will be coming out of the AL West.

Yankees hold the best record @ 97-51 and can probably win about 105 games. The White Sox have ran away w/ the AL Central @ 86-62. Minnesota is a .500 team at 74-74, and starting pitching has plaqued them all year. Rumor is Cliff Lee is interested in signing a deal w/ Minny...

            Halladay won't be a 20-gm winner w/ the Phillies...at least not in 2010...

The Nationals, who came into the final game of a 3-game set riding an 11-game win streak, got a 9 inning gem from Jordan Zimmerman and won the game in the bottom of the 10th while the Phillies suffer a 3 gm sweep at home from the hot Nationals.

With only one more start before post season play begins the best Halladay can do is win 19 games. Boy was Halladay on fire though. He pitched 9.1 innings, allowing 7 hits, and striking out 13. Unfortunately he gave up a double in the T10th to Willie Harris, was pulled after that for Jose Contreras, and Contreras gave up a single that would score Harris from 3rd after a wild pitch advanced Harris to 3rd.

Got out of the T10th only down one run (2-1), but w/ 2 outs and Jimmy Rollins at the plate Ben Francisco was picked off by Matt Capps to end the game.

Since going 18-4 in September thus far they have pushed their record to 71-84. Obviously not in the playoffs, but not in last place either. My created Strasburg is 6-8 w/ a 3.87 ERA.

Post-season is underway. For my final series of the season I choose to rest my starters, and started Jose Contrerat, Sergio Escalona, and Antonio Bastardo. The end result was the Braves sweeping me, and swooping in and grabbing a wildcard spot over the stalled Dodgers.

So the Divisional Round pits the following teams to together (AL&NL):

                  STL vs ATL
                  PHI vs COL

                  NYY vs TEX
                  CWS vs BAL

In the one time I faced Ubaldo Jimenez as the Phillies he shut me out, and beat Halladay and the Phillies.

PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES WIN GM 1 OF NLDS:

Roy Halladay was magnificent in his 1st post-season start. Halladay dazzled the Colorado Rockies over 8 innings, allowing 6 hits, and striking out 11.

Halladay ran into a little trouble in the 6th as the Rockies put together 3 hits in the inning to tie the game 1-1. Seth Smith doubled, and was singled in by Carlos Gonzalez w/ 2 outs. Brad Hawpe would double next, but Gonzalez was unable to score from 1st; the Phillies first run cam in the 1st inning w/ a Chase Utley solo HR.

Philadelphia opened the game wide open in the 3rd as Ubaldo Jimenez had struggled all game long to throw strikes. His pitch count through 5.1 innings: 82 pitches/47 strikes.

In the B6th: Ubaldo gave up a single to Polanco to lead it off, walked Chase Utley, and then fell behind Ryan Howard in a 3-1 count and Howard took him deep sitting on his fastball. Score 4-1 Phillies.

Jimenez was pulled and the bullpen got out of the inning w/o giving up another, pitched a scoreless 7th, but then in the 8th Philadelphia would hang 3 more runs on the Rockies pen and the final score in this one was 7-1.

Chad Durbin came out to pitch the T9th, and recorded a hitless/scoreless inning.

Player of the game was definitely Halladay, but Ryan Howard was a close 2nd as he went 2/3 w/ 4 RBI (3rHR & rbi 2B) and a BB.

Jayson Werth has finally come off the D/L, and I get him back for game 2...can't wait to get him back in action as he was on a tear before he tore a groin muscle. He's 2010 through 88 games: .293 avg, 19 HRs, 55 RBI, and 13 SBs/CS 3.
