    Re: MLB 2K10 Franchise Progress

Played a game in my Brewers franchise last night. Beat the Cards 2-1. Rickie Weeks scored both runs for the club. Braun and Fielder had the RBI's. Pieced together 6 hits, played small ball to win, as the norm for me. Weeks led off with a single, Gomez bunted him over, Braun grounded to short moving Weeks over, and Fielder singled. Had Narveson on the mound. Pitched 7 strong innings, 4K's, 0ER, 0BB. Tony Sipps is my new setup man, pitched 1 inning striking out 2. Brought in Hoffman to close and Miller Park almost exploded. Gave up 3 hits and 1ER. A few of the hits were partially my fault, but also the computer started my players moving towards the ball, like right on top of it, and then didn't do anything. 2 of the hits were would I'd call BS hits. Still won 2-1 taking the game from the Cards.

I made a trade after the game. Sent Gomez, a AAA outfielder in the mid-70s, and a AAA pitcher in the mid-70s to the Cards fro Colby Rasmus. I'll miss Gomez's speed, but I can't stand his week ratings for hitting. Still looking for a bat that I can bring off the bench for pinch hitting that has some power. Mat Gamel is my best "power" hitter on my bench right now.

      Re: MLB 2K10 Franchise Progress

Finally found Carlos Beltran (he was hiding in Double A), so I now have a solid bat in the No. 3 hole for the Mets.

      Lineup looks like this:
      1. Reyes, SS
      2. Castillo, 2B
      3. Beltran, CF
      4. Bay, LF
      5. Wright, 3B
      6. Davis, 1B
      7. Francouer/Pagan, RF
      8. Barajas, C
      9. Pitcher

Back to .500 thanks to a pair of extra inning victories. In the last game, Jason Bay hit a 2-run walk-off HR to left-center, 431 feet

Having Beltran in the lineup should give Bay and Wright better pitches to hit. Reyes is so much better in the leadoff spot. He's got 3 steals already through 4 games.

My bullpen is terrible, lol. Blown 2 leads in the last 2 games, forcing me to go extras to win it. K-Rod blew a save and Feliciano couldn't protect a 1-run lead in the 8th in the other game. Hopefully, this situation stabilizes itself.

Have to say that I am really enjoying this game. A real breath of fresh air, so to speak, for me.

Played on the road against the Cubs in my last game. Took a 2-0 lead after a two-run homer off of Dempster. Had Randy Wolf on the mound, no my style of pitcher as he gets a lot of ground ball outs. Added to the lead with another two-run homer by pinch hitter Mat Gamel, 469 feet (it was a bomb, the replay showed Gamel spinning almost 360 degrees after the hit). Got through the 7th and 8th with Jesse Crain and Tony Sipps. Brought in Hoffman for the 9th, and he did his best to blow the save. 3 hits, two warning track outs, and 1 run later, I finally won the game. I signed Juan Cruz as assurance in the bullpen. Might be making the switch to Tony Sipps as closer soon.

I've looked at shopping Hoffman, the Phillies have offered Ryan Madsen and it's a very tempting offer.

Back again, updates on my Royals franchise. I pitched every 5th day with Luke Hochevar on Pro difficulty, took me about a week to finish the season and I broke the Royals ERA record with 1.84 and had a 18-5 record. I also won the Cy Young trophy! On top of that, I made the World Series also and won that - against the Florida Marlins. I am now in my 2nd year of Franchise, already in the second month pitching with Carl Pavano now, trying to get his career back on track. This entire Franchise was done with default rosters, so my next real true Royals franchise will be done when the final rosters come out. This game is so much fun, I can play like 10 games in one day.

I'm doing a pirates 'chise. Actually not doing bad. 13-8. The 5 games over 500 came after I swept the Astros. My team isn't really as good as their record. Suprisingly though Paul Maholm has a 1.67 era and Ronny Cedono is batting .423 (52 CONTACT!?!?!). I also got kazmir in a three-team deal (made it up) including doumit and ohlendorf. He hasn't been that great though. 3-1 with a 4.00 era and a .303 BAA. Has 40+ K's though.

I have a franchise going with the Reds. Harang got shelled in the opener against the Cards. Pujols hit 2 solo homers. I walked him his next 2. He gave up 5 runs in 4 inning. I was down 7-2 in the 6th. Votto got a double, Bruce walked, and Jonny Gomes hit a 3 run homer to make 7-5. I went 1,2,3 in the 7th with Arthur Rhodes. I got bases loaded with a 2 out rally and Orlando Cabrera grounded out. Gave up one in the 8th. Got 2nd and 3rd with 0 outs. Scott Rolen doubled in 2 to make 8-7. Couldn't get him in. Cordero pitched a 5 pitch 9th. Phillips singled. Moved to second on a wild pitch in the dirt. Vott flied out. Bruce singled but, couldn't get Phillips in. Gomes grounded out but Bruce made it second in time. Scott Rolen doubled again to win by 1. Traded Harang and a couple high rated prospects for Roy Oswalt. Laynce Nix and Jonny Gomes have been tearing it up. I benched Drew Stubbs to give Nix the CF spot. I'm 2 games out from the Cards but, 7 games above .500.

                Re: MLB 2K10 Franchise Progress

Played a brilliant 2-0 game last night against the Pirates. Manny Parra did an admirable job on the mound, my strikeouts have been down a lot lately which is disappointing. Trevor Hoffman was relieved of his closing duties in favor of Tony Sipps. Juan Cruz is my new setup guy. I'm 2-2 in saves when I'm playing the games.

I look at my team stats and midway through April, almost the end of the month, Dave Bush was 0-3 with an ERA above 20, 10K's, 15BB's. My AAA pitchers are not worthy of getting promoted. I could have moved him to the bullpen in favor of Carlos Villanueva or Seth McClung, but I opted for a trade. Shipped Dave Bush to KC for Luke Hochevar. I may hold onto Hoffman until the trade deadline and ship him somewhere for a bag of baseballs or something. Randy Wolf is another guy who is struggling and may be replaced in the rotation.

After the trade I went to San Diego. Went down 2-0 in the first inning. I chipped away with some small ball moves. Tried a double steal, stealing 2nd and home. They for some reason threw down to 2nd, but I got the runner back in time while scoring 1. I manufactured a few more runs and wound up winning 3-2 in 12 innings.

PHILLIES WIN A CLOSE GM 3, BUT STL BATTLES BACK IN GM 4 TO TIE SERIES

Joe Blanton took the ball for game3 of the 2010 NLCS and had a masterful performance striking out 5, walking only 1, and allowing only one run over 8 innings of work. STL made it interesting the top of 9th, and the shaky Phillies bullpen almost relinquished the lead but Ryan Madson was able to stop the bleeding and record the final out on a strike out of Ryan Ludwick w/ the tying run on 2nd.

With a big game 3 win Philadelphia had a chance to take a commanding 2 gm lead on STL, but pitcher JA Happ did not have his best stuff and wound up surrendering 6 earned runs, 3 coming after he walked the bases loaded, and saw Albert Pujols knock in a bases clearing double.

Philadelphia would make a small rally cutting the 6-0 deficit to 3, but were unable to get any closer.

A decisive gm5 will pit Roy Halladay against Adam Wainwright. In gm1 Halladay was roughed up over 5 innings surrendering 11 hits and a few runs while Adam Wainwright was unstoppable going 8 innings, striking out 10, and surrendering the only Philly run on a Ryan Howard solo shot.

Philadelphia hopes being at home will make for a better Halladay start.

Won my division with the Reds. I was 10 games over .500. Albert Pujols spent a big portion of the year on the DL, lucked out there. Phillips and Votto had pretty good years. Laynce Nix, Jonny Gomes, and Drew Stubbs battled it out for the LF, and CF spots all year. Down 0-1 to the Phillies in round one.

                      Re: MLB 2K10 Franchise Progress

With the new patch being released, I have decided to do what JBH is doing - control all 30 teams in a franchise and make moves between the teams as I see fit. Going to be interesting to see what happens and what not - I'll be playing a "Game of the Week" type thing every week or so, but will probably end up playing more when I feel like it.

Game of the Week 1: Opening Day
                      Yankees @ Red Sox
                      Fenway Park

I decided to play the opening day game, Yankees against Red Sox, with me controlling the Yanks of course.

Top of the 2nd, and Tex leads off with a huge homerun to dead center, putting the Yanks up 1-0. It would be 2-0 later in the inning, as Posada would triple into the "triangle" in CF, setting him to be driven in by an RBI groundout from Curtis Granderson.

However, the Red Sox would get two back right away, thanks in part to a JD Drew double, which would drive in Youkillis, and an RBI single from Adrian Beltre.

The game would remain tied at 2 until the 6th, where JD Drew would get up and proceed to smash a homerun down the right field line. The Yankees would have their chance in the 8th facing Ramon A. Ramirez, as they would put runners on 2nd and 3rd with nobody out, but Boston would bring in Okajima to get 3 big outs and nail down the inning. That would be the difference, as the Red Sox would win 3-2, with Papelbon coming in for the save.

Fun game, looking forward to this already.

Keep telling myself "one more game and I am done for the night" well, I am playing my 6th game today with pitcher Carl Pavano in my Royals franchise.. so right now I am in a game against the Giants and the commentator says "Lets take a look at the central division blahblahblah The Royals are in last place" and then my World Series run gets mentioned (stuff like this keeps me playing). Commentator goes "The Royals aren't living up to much of anyone's expectations after that World Series run last season." (Because I am in last place currently in June)

Another thing, I traded away Alex Gordon and David DeJesus to the Twins and when they came up to bat in my 1st season, the trade was mentioned when they came up to bat! Now, in my 2nd year all the commentator said when DeJesus came up to bat "When he comes to this stadium, old memories run deep"

Good job 2K with the commentating.

Finished a game between the Twins and the Angels just now.

Liriano vs. Piniero (his first start for LA)

Played as the Twins and wound up winning 9-1. I was lights out with Liriano - he pitched 8 strong inngs for the victory. Big days came from Jim Thome, who went 4-5 with 4 RBIs and Joe Mauer, who went 3-5 with 2 RBIs.

I'm happy with the better Manager AI now. Piniero was pulled in the middle of the 4th after surrendering 5 runs. His stamina was decently low too. Following him, the Angels rightly put in LR Matt Palmer, who would pitch very well until the 9th where he began to tire and allowed a walk and a single. He was removed for Scot Shields, who allowed 3 runs in the 9th to give Minnesota some insurance.

Simulated a month of the season.. saw that the Reds were struggling at 9-14 and decided to play a game with them against the Cardinals.

Two young promising pitchers went on the bump, with Mike Leake pitching for the Reds up against Jaime Garcia of the Cardinals.

Game was a stalemate at 0-0 until the bottom of the 5th, where Holliday would single, be bunted over by Freise, steal 3rd, and then score on a SAC Fly from Yadier Molina. Talk about manufacturing a run.

I would get 2 back in the 6th though, as the struggling Drew Stubbs (batting only .188 coming into the game) would smash a 2-run shot to put the Reds up 2-1. It would become 3-1 in the 8th on an RBI double from Joey Votto, who wound up with 4 hits on the day.

That run would be huge, as the Cards would score 1 in the 9th off of Cordero thanks in part to a RBI single from Ryan Ludwick. David Freise would ground out to end the game however, preserving a victory for the Reds.
