Re: MLB 2K10 Official "My Player" Thread

Quick update before I go to bed

    After Day 1 with MP:

CF w/Cardinals - Mired in a slump. Batting .240 right now. I do have 4 RBI within my past 10 games, but no homeruns yet. I may focus on upping my power a bit more.

SP w/Astros - Had 2 starts so far - one was a complete mess where I gave up 5 runs before being yanked after 4 and 2/3, but the 2nd was a lot better and I pitched 8 innings of 1 run ball.

CL w/Tigers - Just played 4 appearances with him - I'm dominating, to be honest. I have a 2-seam FB and a slurve, and the combo just messes with the hitters. I only have 3 ks though, but I think I've given up maybe 2 hits in 6 innings.

I think I may delete my SP and just focus mostly on my CF with my Closer on the side when I get bored.

What's tough for me about the My Player mode is that most of the pitchers in the minors throw so slow, you're waiting all day for the ball to get there. I'm having trouble slowing down my timing enough to get any hits.

I'm hovering around 230 in the minors after like 30 games still because I can't get the timing right at all.

Put up the pitch speed with sliders. The pitches in this game are slower than real life anyways, so this will make the minors feel normal, but then add a little extra when you're in the majors.

What I hate is when it shows your goal for the at-bat, and it shows their pitch speeds and it says FB (96 MPH) 2 Seam (92) Curveball (80) and they go and throw an 85 MPH Fastball... So of course I swing way too early because its about 10 MPH slower than they say it should be. And then of course the next pitch is a 96 MPH fastball so I'm way behind and I'm down 0-2 in the count already.

I thought the pitch speed could only be adjusted if it came from the user's pitcher?

Hi All - slowly becoming addicted to the myplayer mode in 2k10, but I have a question:

in terms of attribute points how is everyone adding them? I have a ton of attribute points and maxed out all of my attributes, but they aren't changing? I've played about 16 or 17 games and my player has only a very slight improvement...

or is this how it's supposed to be?

Totally agree with this! Here I am sitting on the fastball and here comes this 84 mph pitch that I swing way too early. "BTW, its always nice when they show it too you again in the swing analyzer lil box lol" But, I am not doing too bad I created a RF/1b and got drafted by the Royals. Through about twenty five games I have 6 HR 18 RBI. But, I strikeout like a demon. Regardless, this is one of the most addictive modes I have ever seen.

Ha! I thought this too until I was like "this can't be right".

you fill each bar to get one extra point. So Power vs LHP is at 55 lets say. it's at 55 and you need 120 point to move it to 56. Each attribute has two bars the one above is your score, the one below is just the bar you use to fill over an over again, but it's like that way so you could fill it a third of the way until you get more points.
you will see the bar fill completely before resetting back to zero but your actual score will keep ticking up slowly.

I'm confident that's your problem because the game hasn't been out long enough for the hours it would take to max everything (i should know I've played this mode exclusively since I picked it up)

could it be that by maxing out all of my attributes with points, that its trying to distribute my points out to all of these attributes at once?

so if I have 100 skill points, and 10 attributes maxed out, that it's only adding 1 point to each attribute?

and that's why I'm seeing such meager gains?

say if I took attribute points away from bunting, but had hitting vs lefty up all the way, more points would end up going to that attribute at a time?

edit: am I correct in assuming that the points you earn from completing challenges is actually what ends up being distributed throughout your attributes? or waaaay off?

Sorry for the questions, I just want to make sure I'm understanding your explanation correctly and using the system as it was intended!

I was thinking this way too at first. When you are at my skills screen, hit the RB button and it increases your attibutes one "WHOLE POINT" or one SKILL POINT from like 55 to 56. The white bar is where you use the number of attribute points you earned in the game, but they are used to gain "whole Skill points". It takes 120 attribute or "secondary points" to make your SKILL point/Whole point go up 1. I'm not explaining it very well, but hopefully this kinda sheds some light on it. Read the screen carefully and it will have RB button to gain a whole skill point and the trigger just adds the secondary points to white bar. Then you will figure it out.

What you have done is max out all your white bars, but you have not gained any total skill points. All you have to do is hit RB and your actual skill poin of 55 will go to 56 and so on and so forth. Hard to explain, but once you look at the screen you will wonder why you didn't realize it before. That's what happened to me.

Thanks so much, this makes a lot of sense. You explained it perfectly. No wonder I haven't seen any change. I haven't been following through the whole process!

AllBthere, your post makes sense now. You were essentially saying the same thing as KoolieG, I just wasn't getting it.

Thank you both for your help!

edit - thanks hawkeye you must have posted while I was writing my response. I appreciate the effort. I feel like a dunce now.

Thanks for posting this. It really clarifies a lot for me.

Form the developer's preview I was getting the impression you only played certain moments during the season and not each of your at bats. I'm glad I was wrong.
