    Re: Hitting is impossible! HELP!

IVe found that holding down on the left joystick produces best results for me. I think this is because most pitchers throw in the middle to lower half of the strike zone and rarely throw up in the zone, maybe a handful of times during the game. I was playing with My Player and couldnt hit crap. Then, I went to do some of the hitting drills and moved around the left thumbstick and got best results with holding down. So, Im assuming the left thumbstick should follow where the pitch is thrown, and since Im not great at that yet, (althought im pretty good and not swinging at bad pitches), I just hold down. Hope this helps. I would recommend doing the batting drills, too.

From what I've seen, doesn't holding the joystick up produce a more likely fly ball and holding it down produce a ground ball? It's to effect the result of the hit in play, not to aim for the ball? Right? I could be wrong on this and I'm trying to get clarification.

        Re: Hitting is impossible! HELP!

I dont think so. Ive hit a few HRs with my rookie My Player holding down in about 20 games. I get a few ground balls yes but ive had all kinds of hits, groundballs, line drives, pop ups. So if i had to guess, the left joystick is for bat placement.

On an unrelated note. How the hell do I hit and run in My Player?

Look at the Batter movements to get your timing right, when the pitcher throw the ball look when the batter pick up his leg to pinpoint your time to swing.

In Classic hitting, the easiest way to hit a HR is to hold the left stick up BEFORE the pitcher throw the ball. When the pitcher throw, do the above to get the timing right

So with the new swing stick, which skill level of gameplay gives the most accurate results--lets start the discussion there.

From what I've experienced and witnessed with a friend playing the game: All-Star is almost impossible. I'm a good gamer and I can't hit a lick on there other then singles.... no power.... Rookie is way too easy.

Is Pro the way to go for SIM baseball play on this game (especially hitting)

Ah, yes, im using the hit stick. So my advice would be different than classic hitting.

                Re: Hitting is impossible! HELP!

the left stick influences and has nothing to do with pitch location.

I find whatever default its (pro) perfect for my player. I'm struggling, but my stats are increasing so I'm getting better. In a full 162 game season (in the minors) I'll have around 16-17 hr, 100rbi and about 20 doubles with a average between. .230 and .245

Once my stats are better I'd expect average and Hr's to increase. Then moving to the majors i guess would mirror more my original numbers that i projected until the stats get really good and I can even think about becoming an elite player.

All i know is that before holding the thumbstick down, i was hitting .100. I did the batting drills and found when I held down I hit the ball more solid and my avg is at .300. I agree that puhshing the thumbstick left and right will influence where the ball goes. My advice is to use the drills and find out on your own or what works for you.

Go to the drills game mode and play the contact and power one. It's batting practice. I found that when I swing a tad later, I make better contact using the power swing. Seems kind of backwards... Aren't power swings suppose be long? I thought swinging later would just make me swing and miss.

Maybe the LS influences the swing in the fact that pressing up is an upper cut swing and pressing down is more of a 'level' or swing down on the ball?

Thats the only way I can figure that it gives you better hitting results and all hit types, not just ground balls. Wish there was more explanation from 2kSports on the hitting

I was also struggling with all-star as of yesterday, but I upped the contact and power 1 notch each from default All-Star and did some practice drills and scored 5 runs in 4 innings off Clay Buccholz.

I am using default all star. I struggled the first coulple of games but with baltimore I had a 12 hit game . 4 doubles, 3 hrs. Id play a few games before messing with sliders. Just takes practice.

So i tested this up and down motion on the thumbstick in a real time game. Pressing up for me definitely is more of an uppercut swing because EVERYTHING popped up. So i believe pressing down does make it a more line drive swing, level. Id def rather take the hits than poppin the ball up.

But can you still drop bombs by swinging down/pressing LS down?

I find this to be true as well. I guess they were thinking that since the powerswing will produce a faster swing time, we should actually swing a bit later than we would with contact swing. Sounds backwards, but makes sense.
