Can someone please explain hitting to me?

I'm sure I'm missing some obvious things, but I can't seem to get the hitting in this game down. Here are my questions:

1 - Batter's Eye. Is it better to have this on or off? If it's on, it goes away once the pitcher starts his windup, does that mean that I can't adjust where I'm swinging after that point? Basically, once the pitch is thrown, how do I control where I'm swinging the bat. If I use batter's eye, does the left thumbstick invisibly move from where I left it, or does it start from center? Do I even have control of where I'm swinging?

Example: If I pick the batter's eye to watch for high and inside, but then I see the pitcher throwing low and away, how do I make that adjustment?

2 - Opposing Pitcher's - Is it me, or do they throw a lot of balls out of the strike zone. I almost never get a good pitch to hit.

Overall, I don't feel like I have a lot of control over where I am swinging the bat.

I had this problem, aswell but now I am hitting better than ever. I found my hitting to be better with the Strike Zone switched off. For some reason the strike zone grid obstructs my vision, so when I turn it off my eye on the ball is better. Now all that remains is that you learn discipline. Do a lot of drills in Plate Battle to perfect your hitting, start by doing 5 Pro and then go to All-Star and play 5. Work on the timing and once you get it down it is a piece of cake.

Also, online I would advice using the 'pitcher' camera while batting. The timing and everything is so much different online and much better from that particular angle.

      1. Hitting, is solely based on timing using the right analog stick (RS). The purpose of the left stick (LS) is to "influence" the direction of the baseball or which way you want the ball to go (fly ball, grounder, pulling, opposite field, etc). Proper timing will be just as important if not more important. Apparently, left stick isn't used to aim at all. In other words, the CPU automatically controls where the bat and baseball meet, but you simply must time it correctly.

Lots of good information here about MLB2k10's hitting.
      http://www.operationsports.com/forum...ly-timing.html

Batter's eye doesn't affect your swing location. Since hitting is timing based, batter's eye doesn't "lock" in your swing location. Even with the batter's eye on, and you were expecting the pitch to be high/inside and it turns out to be a low/away, as long as you time it correctly you'll still make solid contact. Essentially you can hit the ball with your right hand only.

      2. Opposing Pitchers, do throw more balls. You simply must be patient and wait for your desired pitch. 2ksports wanted to make the pitcher vs. hitter duel more realistic this time around. If you so choose, you can bring up the pitcher's statistics box (red/blue/hot/cold zone). It indicates their pitch location frequency by percentages.

Try zooming in the batting camera... that made things a lot easier on me.

          2. 2k does a great job of showing the differences of pitchers. For example, some pitchers (for example Peavy in my last game against him) give you absolutely nothing decent to hit all game long and nail the corners. Meanwhile Armando Gallaraga of the Tigers couldn't hit the strike zone if his life depended on it, until he was down in a hitters count.

Work the count and you will see strikes that are very hittable pitches. Also, the more you see a pitcher (particularly starters) the better feel you have for them and learn in what situations they throw what pitch. By the fifth inning that perfect fastball that was just too fast won't be as fast anymore.

As simple as that sound, you are right. I was swinging early most of the time, but started to convince myself to stay back and swing a little later. Getting the bat on the ball a majority of the time now.

If hitting is just a matter of timing, then is that to mean that this is where player ratings come in to effect? Basically, if someoneone's contact rating is low, I have time it that much better?

My overall concern is, if a pitcher throws it outside, will my player reach for it? I know it's a ball, but if it's still within my reach and I want to slap it the other way, will that happen?

Thank you all for your responses btw.
