    How do you power hit?!?!?!

I'm in my 2nd season in My Player mode and my CF has 77 contact and 77 power for both LHP and RHP. I'm having a VERY hard time hitting, especially power hitting. I only have ONE HR in my career! Here are some questions I have:

    1. When do you take a step back? Right as the pitcher releases the ball, or do you pull back and push forward in one quick motion?

    2. Also, it seems that I've been getting less power when I power swing, and I still always get grounders. Also, my batter swings way slower and I can't hold the left stick up because it NEVER is a HR just a flyball and almost always a foul ball backwards. Why is this?

All help would be GREATLY appreciated! I can't be like 5 seasons into My Player mode with 10 career HRs......It would be almost impossible for me to get into the HoF, which is the point of My Player mode.

Ok to answer ur first question it doesnt matter when you pull back anymore, 2k8 it mattered now in 2k9 and 2k10 it doesnt, very disappointing in taking this feature out

to answer ur second question the left stick does not work like last year anymore, u cant hold up and hit homeruns every time now, my opinion is do not touch the left stick ever

also the sliders matter alot, most people power slider are about 40-55, i use 55 and have no problems hitting homeruns

I've just been pulling back on the stick soon as I"m in the batters box, I don't think it makes a difference when you pull it back. I generally don't hold up on the left stick.

and you generally need to wait for something up in the zone. you don't "golf" many out.

You're right that it works differently this season. But it in a good way, if you know how to use it. Pushing up does generate flyballs, but it actually seems to zap some distance. So don't push up to hit a home run. Push up with a man on third and less than two outs, of you want to sacrifice fly him home.

I don't see much of a reason to hit a ground ball, so pushing down seems to be of little value.

But if you want to pull the ball, or go the other way because the defense has a shfit on, or you a running a hit and run, I think you are safe to try and force the issue by pulling an outside pitch, or even going the other way on an inside pitch. Again, you are not going to hit the ball as strong if you do, but if you are taking advantage of the defense, it may be worth it.

Generally, I do tend to push the stick to the right or left if my batter gets tipped off, because it will provide a stronger hit if you go with the pitch, in general.

I only use the power stroke, even when hitting with Pujols, if I have a 2-0 or 3-1 count. Sometimes, depending on the situation, I may use the power stroke an entire at-bat until I get two strikes on me. But that is extremely rare. the power stroke has a much smaller window, so your odds of putting t he ball n play with it are significantly less. And there is no guarantee it will be a HR anyway.

My power slider is default, so I think 50, and I have only hit 1 career HR and it was luck. Also, when I pull it back before the pitcher releases it, my player never takes a "power step".

Okay, I got it. I know when to pull back now, however, when I actually make contact (which is very rare since I started to power swing), it is either ALWAYS a grounder or a low foul to the sides.

I have not had a single HR this year with power swing. In 7 games I have used power swing every time with Brandon Inge and he is hitting .085 with 0 HR's and 1 RBI.
              Gaming hard since 1988

I have won like 25 Super Bowls in Madden so I am kinda a big deal.

Re: How do you power hit?!?!?!

I havn't had any trouble hitting homeruns, even when I was in the minors and called up to my majors after the first 15 games and had like 68 power, I played 82 games my first season and hit .347 and hit 37 home runs and got 108 RBI, and in my second season I have 34 homeruns within the first two months of the season lol. I'm just patient and wait for my pitches. You'll get your rhythm down soon bro don't worry too much about it. It took me about 30 games into my my career(in the Majors) before I started hitting over .200 and stuff. Granted my first at bat was a homerun versus the Padres lol, but after that I struggled for awhile.

I'm very worried about it. I can't wait 5 seasons to start getting 3 HRs a season instead of 0........And I'm patient, but if there is a pitch in the strike zone, I will ALWAYS swing at it. You say you have all these HRs, but mind explaining how you hit them? You can't just say be patient, because I've gotten perfect pitches and hit them perfectly and still gotten a foul/groundout EVERY time.

I try to get ahead in the count and wait for a pitch to come in the strike zone and I just haul back and smash it. Not sure how better to explain it, I really wish I had some helpful advice for you cause I remember how frustrating it was before I got the rhythm down. Not sure if batting stance has anything to do with the timing of hitting, but I use Ted Williams' batting stance.

Re: How do you power hit?!?!?!

I'm not sure if I am getting lucky, but I pull back when the pitcher starts/half way through his wind up and then let go when the pitch is let go and then push forward when I want to swing and I seem to get pretty good power on my hits. It obviously is harder to time up, but once you get used to a pitcher I think it helps.

It's not that I'm not used to hitting, since I'm hitting like .320 in my second season, just my guy can never seem to not foul it off, and when I DO get it in play, it's almost always a bad grounder or a single to shallow center field, NEVER 2B or more!

So don't just use the power swing only. It is still very possible to hit a home run with only using the contact swing, especially if your contact and power rating are relatively high.

I hit almost all of my home runs with the contact swing. I think it has been inappropriately named. It should be considered a standard swing. Using the power swing may give you some more power, but it also shrinks the window in which you can make solid contact.

It seems like the OP is using the Dave Kingman method of hitting, but his power rating is not high enough to pull that off. So he gets all of the Kingman K's and weak ground balls, but hardly any of his power.
