u never really got a good look at the stadiums while batting.

2k8 was the best for me, but the awful frame rate made it unplayable, plus the overlays took a big hit towards ugly.

i still think the progressive lighting in 2k8 is the best of any baseball game i've played.

u could play a game at 10 am!

    my opinion.
You could play at 10 am in 2k7 too...in fact you could play at any time of day. I played several games at like 6am...its fun to see the sun come up in wrigly in the morning.

I did like 2k8 a lot, but the frame rate gave me too many headaches and the graphics took a huge hit from 2k7.

no, you are correct, 2k7 did have it

Re: MLB 2K7 still the best in the series

2K7 was beautiful, but I thought the game play was far from good.

Analog hittings first year was a bit of a mess. The game was a HR fest, even with power setting turned way down and even the games developer said that the outcome of a hit depended primarily on randomness than physics or ratings. Far too often a player could jack a nearly perfect pitch into the seats. Inside pitches hit off the handle could be hit over the opposite field fence and pitches down and away could be golfed to the hitters pull side.

The hit variety itself, was lacking and often times when you made contact, you knew exactly what was going to happen because you'd seen it a hundred times.

The timing of dives and jumps were dictated to us by on-screen messages, which when pulled off consisted of nothing more than hitting a button on command and watching your fielder go into a long, drawn out animation in which the outcome was predictable (always a catch).

Personally, I'd take 2K8 over 2K7 any day of the week even with the choppy frame-rate and meatball issues.

2k8 definitely wasn't a finished product but, I still had a lot of fun with it.

The patch fixed the framerate, and the meatballs weren't a problem if you knew how to pitch and had a good set of sliders. For me, the A.I pitching logic and lack of A.I steals were bigger problems. lol, so many high breaking balls.

Re: MLB 2K7 still the best in the series

I'd also have to say that of all the MLB 2K baseball games, I really thought 2K8 was the best all around game...especially in the gameplay department. The fact that the game had terrible framerate, and some downright choppy animations in the field even after the patch really hurt the game's overall reputation. I havent really compared 2K10 and 2k8 side by side...but I just remember playing 2K8 so much more....2K10 only lasted a few games before I completely shelved it.

I just felt that 2K8 had more hit and fielding variety and played more of a dynamic game of baseball all around.

2K7 did have the best looking lighting and even player models but the problem with me, as someone else mentioned, is the terrible Batter/Pitcher CAM. It was like the pitcher was right on top of you and the ball floated into you then disappeared before actually crossing the plate if you didnt hit it. There was no sense of realistic perspective that gave you the sensation that the pitcher was hurling or whiZZZZzzzzing it in there! It was almost like wiffleball with the strange ball movements....not tight at all. Plus I couldnt stand all those action style live CAMs that switched all over the place behind the batter as he ran to 1st and such...it kind of felt a bit disorienting.

I loved MLB 2K8's ariel style cam of the action.

Im really hoping that 2K11 can capture alot more variety in player's fielding and batting styles this year to give the game more of a dynamic feel that seems to have been missing in 2K9 and 10

2k8 was the best. I really miss the pitching mechanics from it (way to easy now). Hit stick was way better than, well any game has done. Also the balls hit were proper, you could actually hit line drives over outfielders (cant with current games) and bloops down the line. Fielding meter was were better than power meters in current games, it was the release point on your throw, let go early it would go high, let go late and in the dirt, much more realistic. The game had many problems, but it's still the best in those categorizes to me.

Re: MLB 2K7 still the best in the series

I firmly agree that 2K7 is the best. I didn't 2K10 because of the reviews from you guys. Just played 4 great games of 2K7. All the games were decided by an average of about 3 runs. I don't use the left (to aim) when batting. That juiced the bats. I'm a purely timing based hitter. I get homeruns and everything only pushing the button. Great hit variety. My problem is that the cpu makes most of the catches. They are mainly diving catches too but it;s still a good game. The fielding is a little weird on slow rollers and slow big hops. I make a lot of mistakes with those. I wish I had sliders to make the game even better. I upped the cpu contact and all of the strike sliders. I also upped the user infielder and outfielder reaction speeds. This game is really good. Better than 2k8 and 2K9 IMO. The pole camera was perfect. If they fix pinpoint pitching and make it more dynamic and fielding, I will be a happy camper.

                  Great discussion here.

I thought 2k7's lighting was better at times, but its weird, i then thought 2k8 did things lighting wise that gave it the edge.
I did a comparison same time, same stadium, same weather at Yankee stadium with both games and 2k7 looked better.

but if u want to see some nice lighting. try this.

Citizens Bank Ballpark at 7pm, while batting look at that gorgeous night lighting coming in over in the right field seats.

Re: MLB 2K7 still the best in the series

You know what else I liked about 2K8's hitting? I liked how you got a boost if you could predict the zone the pitcher was aiming at, but the better hitters had larger cursors to make that selection. The cursor also varied in size based on the count.

Kush really screwed the pooch when they released that game with such horrendous frame rate issues. Not only did it set in motion a cycle of hate towards 2K's future games, but it cost them a shot at building on what was actually the best core game.

Worse, the frame rate was basically fixed by the patch and installing the game to your hard drive. It also helped to turn off all cut scenes. At that point, it was such a great baseball experience that most people never played.

VC over-reacted to the gamer rage created by the game in its initial release state. So we lost the two step hitting, three-step pitching, as well as the pay-off pitch and batter's eye.

But really, if 2K couldn't trust Kush to release a game in a playable state, then I could not blame them for transferring the game to VC. I just wish VC had kept more of the core mechanics that Kush had put in.

I posted this in another topic:

I concur. After rushing out to buy MLB 2K8 thinking they improved on 2K7 I didn't mind the lack of info due to fact that 2K7 looked and played so good. Man was I let down and disappointed by 2K8, so I vowed never to buy another MLB 2K game until I heard positive feedback and played a decent demo without thinking oh they might patch this or that. After 2K7 this company is really shady with baseball period, at least on older consoles they made good variety baseball games and you had a choice now there's only two and the one for Xbox 360 cares about money not quality, that's a shame. 2K8, 2K9, 2K10, and I'm positive 2K11 all FAILURES. Yes, I still play 2K7 and love it, wind blowing jerseys and accurate sun positions in the morning, afternoon, and evening times is still a masterpiece.
Coming is my style, but I have to go.

Hmmm....Today, I just did a side by side comparison of gameplay between the 2K11 demo, my copy of 2K7 and 2K8, and believe it or not, I still feel that the best all round playing baseball game is 2K8. Now of course, I dont have the full version of 2K11 yet BUT, based just on the pitcher interface, ball physics, camera angle, fundamentals of throwing, positioning, animations, lighting, player models, etc..........I still believe 2K8 is my favorite.

The thing that absolutely killed 2K8 is the fact that the design team couldnt get that game to run at a fluid frame rate and it was choppy in the field....BUT, the animations of the players fielding, throwing, swinging were and are still more lifelike and natural looking than any other game in the recent 2K baseball series. And everyone loves to jump on the 2K7 bandwagon for textures, lighting and player models, which were good, but 2K8 is right up there with 2K7 and has better fundamental baseball gameplay. Play an exhibition game at the Polo Grounds in the mid afternoon to see how good the lighting and graphics are in 2K8.

And if you want a really fun thro back time to the era of SNES style video game baseball, set the fielding CAM to ARIEL or HIGH (whatever its called) You'll get that wonderful bird's eye view of the field when balls are put in play.....I simply love the retro feel of that

I actually am going to continue my franchise in 2K8 because Im so excited to dust this one off....I just wish they would have patched the patch and fixed the awful framerate. its the one major thing holding this one back.........The ball physics and trajectories off the bat are some of the best i've seen in any baseball game

I agree with pretty much everything you said here. I have been playing alot of my 2K8 Franchise over the winter and love it. Don't know if you've tried it yet but installing the game to your hard drive seems to really help the framerate out, making it a non-issue for me.

2K7 was def. the best looking game they put out so far, but gameplay really lacked. When i first popped it in I totally dug the action on the field and then 2 weeks later when it all got stale I was just playing a boring game. It even lost its "pretty" factor. Graphically, it was almost perfect. Player faces, lighting, textures, wtf happened??? Well Im not a developer or programmer so I dont what goes into making a game play well and look good.
But this years version is looking in the right direction.

I went back and played 2K7 and the graphics aren't as good as I remember them. It may have to do with the fact that I used to play it on a regular SD TV back in the day, but it just doesn't look as good in HD. It was amazing for it's time though.

As for 2K8, aside from the graphics and lack of AI stealing, there are a lot of things to like about it, but I have to say I'd take 2K10 over it (mainly because it has the best hitting and AI pitching, and I really like My Player), and judging by the demo, it seems 2K11 will be the best of the lot, IMO.

2k7 was fun. I used the Nationals on that game.

The thing I remember was I could not pull HRs with righties. I would go opposite field. I can barely remember who else was in that line up. Now I am trying to remember my lineup.
