Im really enjoying 2K8, Its amazing that this game can stand the test of time. The one thing that still impresses me about this developer team (Blue Castle?) is how close they were to Baseball nirvana. The gameplay engine they designed has incredibly dynamic hit variety and ball trajectories. The variety in which balls can be hit to fielders, or just squeak by an infielders glove is as authentic as any game out now and better than what I am seeing in 2K9, 10 and 11.
The ball physics had a realistic sensation of slice, and spin on it as well as a feeling of lift as it traveled thru the air into the outfield. The players all have a natural range of motions in the field and even realistically bobble and boot balls. Fielding looks authentic and not overdone to the point of the crazy acrobatic contortions I am seeing in the 2K11 demo. Players will position themselves, catch, plant their feet then pump and throw all naturally in an appropriate timing.
As I said earlier, the one major standout that ruined this game, even moreso than the lack of steals from the AI or other quirks is the chunky, eye distracting overall framerate that seems to be running at maybe even 15-20fps at times. It just totally derails any sense of fluidity that a video game should have.
But this game's foundation is a wonderful base which 2K should have allowed them to build upon and tweak. I could only imagine how superior it could have been if used all the way up to version 2K11.
Im actually enjoying the dynamics of this game as much my copy of The Show 10.
