Started a chise with the Cubbies... right now sitting at 2-6, waiting to go to 2-7... Soriano is a beast with the long ball, so far going yard 5 times. Barney is doing a decent job in the leadoff spot...but my staff is a mess...lost Lopez, who was spinning a decent start, to the dreaded 60 day DL, but can't seem to have anyone else pitch effectively.. my pen? Dreadful..

        Re: MLB2K11 Franchise Progress

Update on my Orioles franchise (Year 3)...Trade Deadline Edition:

As I briefly discussed in my last update, I was heading into the trade deadline and my team was scuffling a bit after getting some injuries and just general overall poor play. The biggest hurdle was losing Shawn Hill for the season a few months ago, and my rotation hasn't been the same since.

So I decided to make the big move. Even though my team's play improved going into the trade deadline, I lost Jake Arrieta for 4 weeks with a strained ligament, suffered throwing a slider in one of his starts. Rather than piecemeal my pitching for the stretch I figured it was now or never.

I scoured the trade scenarios looking for a good/great pitcher that was a rental (last year of contract) but worth resigning at the end of the year. While there were some great pitchers available, like Chris Carpenter on the 2nd to last place St. Louis Cardinals* (my virtual fandom heart breaks on that one ), they were at the tail end of their careers and not worth re-signing in the offseason.

Finally, I found the perfect target: Jair Jurrjens. He had been struggling this year on a bad Braves team sitting last in the NL East and he was on the last year of his contract. So I put together a package of one 28 year old, 3 star (4 potential) SP from my AAA club, a 3 star position player from AAA, and a 22 year old 2 star (4 star potential) RP from AA.

        So now my rotation is:

        Brian Matusz
        Jair Jurrjens
        Paul Maholm
        Brad Bergesen
        Scott Olson

Certainly not the best rotation in the game, but a deep and steady rotation nonetheless. Bergesen is on track to be the AL Cy Young winner with a 12-3 record and a 2.13 ERA. He was even quoted as saying "it would be an honor to win the AL Cy Young" on the MLB.com Headlines (nice little touch in Franchise mode).

For the results so far? Jurrjens was smoked in his first start only making it through 3.2 innings and giving up 5 runs before being yanked. His second start was an 8 IP 2 ER performance that was more to my liking. So far I haven't had a chance to pitch with him yet given how I'm setting up the simming, but I'm looking forward his next spot in my "rotation."

*Side note: The Cardinals are not in last only because of the dependably terrible Chicago Cubs who are one of the worst teams in the last few decades. I haven't checked their standings since the trade deadline, but they were 28 - 67 for the year. Yes, you read that right, they were 39 games under .500 just after the All Star Break. If they keep up that pace they are dangerously close to losing 110 games.

Interesting. Did you choose not to re-sign him or did he just flat out not want to sign with you?

And yes, thank God for the Cubs. The urinal of the MLB.

Started a franchise with the cubs but realized that day games are ridiculously hard to play in the later innings cause of the shadows at Wrigley

                  Re: MLB2K11 Franchise Progress

I just started one with the dbacks. theres no real reason to have a dbacks team, i just wanted a team that could win this year and wasnt amazing, like the yankees or something. Anyways, i kept most of it the same exceot i traded montero and someone else for neil walker and brought up konrad schmidt from triple A to start. I play about half of the games because i dont have time to be playing 162 of them. Anyways, the best hitter on my team has actually been brandon allen, whos been raking ever since he stole the starting job from miranda. My lineup looks like this most days:

SS Stephen Drew (hes just straight contact all the time, even though his rating isnt that high)
3B Neil Walker (Always hits the ball, love this guy)
RF Justin Upton (Struggling atm, but theres too much potential to drop out of the 3 hole)
CF Chris Young (I know, he should probably be my leadoff hitter or something but hes got the most HRs and isolated power on the team)
1B Brandon Allen (Monster, and there is no real reason y)
2B Kelly Johnson (I really like him and he should be higher, hes just stuck on this damn stacked team)
C Konrad Schmidt (Placeholder till i can get someone else, splits time with henry blanco)
                  LF Gerardo parra (OK contact)

Ill post my rotation and what not later. This team is stacked. The only really below average hitter is schmidt, and he dont even matter. Everyone else mashes. Were just smokin everyone right now but got the rockies coming up. its impossible to get car-go out in this game, so i just ggave up.

I had considered doing one with Arizona too. They have legit talent, but aren't super stacked, they're young, and are in a winnable division. Keep us posted on that one. I really like Chris Young--he could hit 25 HR for you.

Neither funny story though. By the time I got to him after one or two guys. I tried to resign him, he wanted a lot of money. 4 point something Million. I tried making offers. Here's the funny part he's still a free agent. Not that funny but, I still might resign him this offseason unless the trade deadline brings good pitching or someone else is better.

Looking to start a new franchise. Looking for a team that is not amazing but decent and needs some rebuilding but not too much. Any ideas for teams?

I'd like to add the Pirates one if you look back a couple pages I have a good line-up for them.Very time consuming.Makes it fun and rewarding in some way if you win the WS. Even though my Pirates haven't.
