Update on my Orioles Franchise (Year 3):

So I'm in the World Series against Cincinatti. Their lineup is sick. Well, their top 6 are anyway. You have to get down to the 7 spot before you come across a hitter with less than 25 HRs.

Game 1 against the NL Champion Reds was Paul Malholm vs. Aroldis Chapman.

    Chapman's fastball should be illegal.

After working a long first inning and drawing 3 walks (capped with a Mark Reynolds 3 RBI double) I thought I was off to an easy game. Unfortunately, Malholm gave the 3 runs right back in the top of the 2nd.

It stayed 3-3 until the 8th inning when the Reds scored on a sac fly, giving them a 4-3 lead. In the ninth they added a solo HR.

I thought I was going to come back when I had 1st and 3rd with no one out against the Reds converted-starter-now-closer, Homer Bailey. Unfortunately, Josh Bell lined out to 2nd for the first out. Felix Pie followed that up by swinging at a curveball in the dirt for the K (2nd out) and Vladimir Guerrero was thrown out straying too far from 3rd to end the game.

I'm down 1-0 in the World Series, but I'm still holding out hope that my quoted post above doesn't become a legendary example of overconfidence.
Wow, what a game! CIN is a really interesting team. Votto and Bruce can hit even when they're on cold streaks. You get them and Philips or Rolen or Gomes on a hot streak and you're in for a long day.

Even though Chapman and Cueto have control issues, I have a really hard time with pitchers whose FB gets up into the high 90s/low 100s.

I wouldn't worry too much about the statistical abberations at this point. You're still early enough in the season that you can go on a month long cold streak with half of your lineup and be back in the pack in AVG. That's why they play 162

That being said, if you're still having those same issues later in the season, you may try adjusting your sliders to allow for less contact (smaller hitting window means fewer hits and fewer solid hits).
Thanks. Part of me is thinking that's what it might be. Because if I am going up against good pitching, I truly struggle to hit. It seems like when I just absolutely go off, it's when I'm going against the bottom of a team's rotation. For instance, I just played a game against the Rockies who were starting Ubaldo Jimenez, and I didn't get anything going until like the 9th inning. The win I got in that game was real fluky.

A lot of my manually played games have also come against teams that aren't doing so well in my franchise. Mostly, I'm playing division games, so I'm going up against teams like the Dodgers and the D'Backs who, in my franchise, are doing horrid.

That said, I do like where the overall difficulty setting is at, because I don't have a feeling that any game is a lock. I've blown some games, I've gotten shut down, I'm gotten outright dominated. So I don't feel like I need any huge adjustments quite yet.

I think a couple of my guys who are doing good right now are just on a tear, as well. Tejada, for instance, is on a hot streak so his contact rating is really high at the moment. So his .avg has gone up greatly. Torres and Burris I don't really have an explanation for, except maybe they aren't everyday starters, so they have less at bats going for them?

I'd definitely like to see if it balances out. Thanks for the reply tho, I was definitely looking to see someone else's take on my situation.

Damn I have such a hard time closing games out with the Braves () for some reason. Craig Kimbrel is 5 for 8 in save opportunities, and Jonny Venters just blew the first save situation he was in against the Mets

                  Re: MLB2K11 Franchise Progress

So i just started a franchise with the astros. I played a couple of spring training games to get a feel for the team and just could not hit with a few players. And with a lack of power I had to make a few moves after spring training but before opening day.

                  Signed scott olsen from FA
Traded- Brian Bogusevic (4 star potential) and Brian Esposito (3 star) for andrew jones
Traded- Brett Wallace (24 year old 4 star potential), Carlos Lee, and Matt Downs (3 star potential) for Prince Fielder.

The brewers trade I was thinking is this really a fair trade for both sides. Then when I noticed that braun was out with a ACL and would miss over 100+ days they could really use Lee in left field. And wallace was a great up and coming first base and I didn't want to trade him but we could use the power on my astros team. In all I think I made some fair trades with the situation around them.

I can see you picked up J-Roll and Baez. I'm rolling with the Phils in my franchise and J-Roll is a guy I've definitely thought about dealing down the road. He's a great defensive presence, but he's really not good as good against righties as you'd want your regular leadoff guy to be. I think he's only hitting .255 in my franchise.

I like Baez. His 2-seamer is really heavy--lots of grounders there.

In my own franchise, I get Rollins back from a week-long injury, then Howard goes down for a week--all with just 8 games left in the regular season. Cliff Lee is finally back from a pretty long stint, though, so the rotation is back in order.

                        Ugh, I'm so upset!

I just took a perfect game into the 9th inning against the Royals and gave up a hit with one out in the 9th. The next guy grounded into a double play, so I still faced the minimum, but man does it suck to lose the perfect game.

I've never thrown a perfect game in any video game before so I was really hoping to get this one as it's probably the best chance I've ever had. I did throw a couple no hitters with MVP 05, but I didn't exactly use the most challenging sliders when that happened.

                          I am still under .500...

The offense is there, but the pitching is not. I recently sent Lyle Overbay, Joe Biemel, and a minor leaguer to the Dodgers for Blake Hawksworth and a couple of 3* potential players. Plan to call up Hawksworth soon since he has some good stuff and can replace the struggling Brian Bannister.

The Dodgers are in a pennant race so they could use Overbay to replace the struggling Loney, and Biemel fills a need for a lefty out the pen.

I am past the All-Star break now, and have lost game one of a 3 game set with Houston.

Did anybody notice their teams dynamic ratings disappear when beginning the 2nd half of the season? All my hot (and cold) bats are gone, but CPU teams still have all theirs. ?????

So my younger cousin deleted my astros season cuz he absolutly hates the astros.

Started a franchise with the Diamondbacks. This is a team I love to use, love there stadium and uniforms.

Well we were a .500 team in spring training but I felt we needed some power in my lineup so I traded xavier nady, melvin mora and enrique nunez to the baltimore for one of my favorite Dbacks of all time and that mark reynolds. I loved his power in the Dbacks lineup in the past. Then I put zach duke in the trade finder and got an interesting offer. I totally forgot about his huge contract (spaced out I guess) but I got an offer to trade duke for AJ Burnett straight up. I made the trade and put Burnett as my 5th starter.

My team is 10-5 so far and reynolds is batting .274 with 19RBI and 8HR while only striking out 13 times.

Aj burnett in his first start pitched a complete game giving up 7 hits and 2ER. His second start he pitched 8innings giving up 3 hits and 2ER. Now the third game I just played he pitched a PERFECT game.
                            So far he is 3-0 26IP 1.38ERA 0.50 WHIP 16K and 3BB

I would say those 2 trades I made before opening day is working out pretty good so far.

So the A's just ended 2 streaks of mine. First, they ended my 8 game winning streak (5 in a row of manually played games), and secondly, they ended Freddy Sanchez' hitting streak. Sanchez had at least 1 hit in every game he had appeared in so far this season, but Cahill was able to shut him down. Sanchez did get on base one time, drawing a walk, but went hitless for the 1st time all season. Sanchez is down to a .459 average.......

The A's lineup absolutely destroyed Lincecum, putting 7 runs on him over the course of 3 innings. I had to pull him in the 4th.

That brings my season record to 27-19. In games manually played, I am 17-16. The game seems to be getting easier, as a large chunk of those losses came from my 1-9 start to the season. But just when I think the game is getting TOO easy, I get crushed by the A's with Lincecum on the mound.

Despite the final score being 7-4, it wasn't even that close. I knocked a 2 run homer with Buster Posey in the bottom of the 8th to make the final score somewhat respectable.

Buster Posey is currently on a hot streak, and is absolutely dominating at the plate. He now leads the team in both HR's (10) and RBI's (33), plus a .327 average.
