There are just so many things that I see, that have really killed the fun for me. While the fielding is better I guess, it feels really clunky to me this year. The base running is atrocious, and some of the overall animations I just can't believe are that bad. If I have to see one more guy sprint awkwardly, like a cat who is lost and confused, after he makes a play....well, let's just say I can't laugh anymore than I already have.

The Stadiums are absolutely awesome looking, but I never realized there were so many burn victims playing in the MLB. I have the PC edition also, but according to Shadows, its just a slight upgrade in graphics.

This is not an indictment on anyone who is having a blast with the title, as I am happy for you who are. I just feel like I bought a $60 coaster. Hopefully with some more time, and maybe some slider tweaks I can find the fun that I had with this title last year.
Agreed, I am returning it to gs for a decent credit and getting something else

That didn't bother you in 2k10? Because the bad animations and the guys looking like idiots after a play are the same as they were in 2k10 in my mind. Overall, the game pretty much feels the same to me, which is pretty much what I expected after watching that first gameplay video.

Just simmed through a season real quick, the half good news is its seems like they almost fixed the issue from last year wear there wouldnt be any good free agents after the season, just to name a few that i saw, Grady Sizemore, Berkman, D Lee and a few others, no one rated higher than an 85 but we'll see what happens a few seasons in. Puljos re-signed with the Card btw, 6 yrs 90+ mil.

All the crazy trades from last year have been addressed, and it has been toned down a lot. They also added a trade advisor that will suggest to accept or decline trade offers. No more Juan Pierre hitting 35 homers lol, and pitching numbers look to be more accurate.

The award voting still seems to be off though. Prince Fielder won the NL MVP with .266 44 HR 125 RBI and there were at least 5 players with better #'s on better teams cant remember who won the AL MVP but the numbers were similar to Fielders. I cant remember the cy young winners either (sorry its late) but it was two guys with 16-10/17-9 type records with era's under 3. Ill do some more digging tomorrow but nothing earth shattering either way.

Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread

Just put the game in, downloaded the patch and dove right into an MLB today game.

          Pirates (me) 3, Twins 2

Ohlendorf went 8 innings, striking out 4. Alvarez went 3-4 with a 2 run HR and a double.

          Thoughts:
          - This is my first real dive into the MLB franchise since MLB 2K7, so the default settings felt just right in terms of difficulty for a beginner.

          - Too many linedrives to infielders as others have said. I got maybe 2 groundballs hit to me on defense all game long.

          - I actually drew 2 walks at the plate and was intentionally put on one other time.

          - Had a groundball to first and Morneau rocketed the ball to Liriano before he even was half way to the bag instead of a soft toss to the base animation.

          - I hate the rocket arm infielders animation, but I can tone that down with sliders hopefully.

All in all it was a fun game of baseball and I'll put more time into it when I get up in the morning.

Enjoying it so far. I'm a stats freak and 2k just deliver this in bucket loads! Love the fluidity of the commentary, they continue to nail it year after year.

One thing that drives me crazy is the descriptive words that tell me what just happened. Do I really have to be told on screen that either someone is out or safe, or that I just hit a home run. Seems a bit kiddish

Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread

I'm really enjoying the game so far. Best 2k baseball game yet. Yeah there are a few quirks here and there, but overall this is an outstanding baseball game.

I have a fast internet connection, but the fact this is the first baseball game I can play online with very little lag so far is amazing in and of itself. I hope it stays that way adn wasn't just a first day miracle but it was pretty sweet. 2k can be "inconsistent" with their servers to say the least, so we will see.

Other than that I can't find too much wrong with this game. Fielding as much as it's been talked about, this is one area that is a bit of a disappointment to me. I'm playing on Allstar and fielding has it's ups and downs. I've had it react realistically and thrown a ball into the stands. Other times it just seems way too easy and automated and quirky. The time it takes to deliver throws can also be horky at times. Maybe I just need to get used to it. I've made some outstanding diving catches though.

Stadiums feel bigger to me which is a plus. When I'm chasing down a ball it just seems like there is a lot more space to cover. It's not perfect but it's improved. Player models also while not perfect also look much more impressive to me especially when playing on a big screen. It seems like 2k is still selective on who they've really modeled correctly though. Some of the signature stuff and movements are spot on and add a lot of personality to the game that was lacking last year. I was playing with the Sox last night and Papelbon came in in the bottom of the 9th to shut them down, and I really felt like I was pitching with Papelbon.

Controls are very responsive for the most part. Although pitching it just seems like some pitchers don't hit their spots. Batting gives you a ton of control and isn't dumped down which I like. You can direct your hit with the left stick and the right stick gives you full control over power and checking your swing.

Overall it adds a lot of variety as far as hit types and pitching is just fun.

I've been impressed with the menus and the amount of simulation aspects of my player and franchise. Too many of these games are dumbed down these days.

There are a few minor glitches here and there. Some AI decisions can be questionable but it happens in real baseball too. IT's more the 2k robotic stuff that bothers me. The graphics can stutter sometimes and the filtering, and framerates aren't as easy on the eyes as I'd like it to be. It can take you out of the game. The in between play stuff can be spectacular and dull. You can tell the animations are improved but other times it's like stop staring into the abyss. Other times the game looks very photorealistic. Some of the stadium stuff isn't as interactive as I'd like it to be. You still see weird morphing issues at times. But other than that this is the best combination of fun and simulation I've seen.

Is there more than 1 fielding camera view this year??? If so what are the fielding cam options?

Enjoying the game so far! I've never been able to connect with my friend playing NBA2K11, but I was able to connect with MLB2K11, go figure. The game was completely lag-free!

Still continue to enjoy the pitcher v. batter exchange.

                          Fielding animations are better.

Ive always thought they've had the best lighting for Day Games!

Played my first game very early! Was yesterdays MLB Today as it hadn't been updated. In the first inning against the Braves I hit 2 HR's with 1 coming from the HR out glitch. Then in the bottom of the 1st set down the lineup 1-2-3 on 10 pitches. So I quit, set the difficulty to All Star, the MLB Today updated to, um, today and played against the Pirates as my Yanks. WOW! So much more fun, CC went 7 innings, threw 90 + pitches, 6 hits and 0 runs. I have hardly ever played a 2K game where I had a pitch count that high for the user! CPU went 7 innings and 98 pitches thrown giving up only 2 runs. Game took about over an hour and I loved it! Going to play on All Star from now on! Had 3 errors, 2 by Jete and K'd a bit too much but thats what Spring Training in Franchise is for! Only annoying thing is I didn't get my MLB Today Achievement but that maybe because my XBOX live signed out mid game.

I'm enjoying the game so far. I've played 3 "quick games" thus far with the Braves.

Here are the things that jumped out at me this year vs. last years game.

                              Good:
                              - Realistic Pitch Counts
                              - I walk batters and the CPU walks me
                              - Like the differentiation between fielders. You can really tell a difference between good and bad fielders in both range and throwing.
                              - Like the new pitching and base running camera angles. Initially didn't like the baserunning camera until I edited the height/zoom, now I like it.
                              - Player likeness are better. Really cool they got Freddie Freeman's likeness in the game. I figured he would be a generic player.

                              Bad:
                              - Saw one of the bugs people have been talking about. Basically the play isn't over, but it goes to a cut scene like the play is over and allows a runner to advance. For example, ground ball to short stop, SS overthrows 1B, runner trys to take second on the error and it just goes to a cut scene just as the runner rounds first. Once the next batter is in the box, the runner is magically on second base.
