Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread

Here is my quick impression after playing 4 games:

    Pros:

+ Presentation - best in the business IMO

+ Pitching & hitting is great! I love the fact that each player has a different 'feel' to them

+ Crowd noise, bat sound, stadium music/sounds

+ Stats, stats, and more stats! I Love it!!!

+ I love the fielding bar, I made 2 errors already!

    + animations after the pitch

    + pitcher reactions

    + hitting cam is nice!

+ some animations are really good

+ some player faces are dead accurate

+ replay camera angles are nice

    Cons:

    - names on Padres away jersey are too BIG (2k10 big)

    - Where is Bud Black???

    - some player faces are HORRIBLE! It seem like 2k focused on marquee players too much and left the others

    - on some players, thighs are still to big

    - frame rate drops on some replays (expected on 2k games )

    - no new camo for Padres (i hope it gets patched or coded)

    - no waivers, rule 5, etc

    - too many injuries out of the box, 1st game of the season Latos got injured 4-6 weeks. 2nd game, Richard got injured for 2 weeks. Sliders can fix it though thank god

    - baserunning animations ugh

    - animations are nice, but some aren't ironed out.

    - Thorne keep saying "Lah-tos" instead of "Lhay-tos"

I'll add more as I move forward in my francise

The base in this game is SOLID and extremely enjoyable and I am going to spend the next little while tweaking some sliders and then just go ahead and play.

Typically, the vocal minority drowns out the silent majority. I, for one, want to thank 2K for giving us an alternative that is very different and approaches the game from a whole other angle. Now, get your ish together and release a patch to fix the few problems so we can dive into Franchise and My Player.
      100% agree.

in the dev diary, they actually said the default is slightly less injuries than what would be realistic... so you may have just run into a little bad luck. 2 games is an awfully small sample size

Probably just bad luck... I toned the slider down to 40, seems better now..

              A few observations thus far...

              • Already have seen 4 errors in 3 games; 2 by my team (Cards) and 2 by the Padres. The first one was a flashback to the 2009 NLDS against the Dodgers, Matt Holliday came in a little too nonchalant and muffed a line drive! Ryan Theriot overthrew Pujols on a routine ground ball. Kyle Blanks muffed a ground ball playing first, and the SD 2nd baseman pulled Blanks off the bag on a tough ground ball at first.
              • In the first series of the season, I have had 3 guys go on the 15 day DL; Molina (sprained wrist), Carpenter (twisted knee) and Motte (sprained thumb). I hope there are no other injuries....it really exposes the Cards' weak minor league system!
              • I have only seen ONE line drive out to the pitcher. That was a huge source of frustration last season's title, so this makes me happy.
              • The faces of the players look great.
              • I have not yet seen this HR glitch that people are talking about.
              • On a bad note, the game froze up on my twice in a 10 minute span.

All in all, I enjoy the heck out of this game--pitching is an absolute blast now with the dynamic strike zones. Well done so far, 2k!

Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread

This game kind of reminds me of a rich man's version of NCAA Basketball 10, where the presentation is so immersive and appealing that you want to forget about all of the weirdness in the actual gameplay. But unlike that game, I think MLB 2k11 actually does play a pretty good game of baseball. The framerate is still not where it should be, especially when you consider the crudity of some of the stadium textures. Some of the visuals are top notch, but then you stare the background skyline of Minneapolis at Target Field, and you really think that the PS2 could have done a better job. The word "unfinished" or "unpolished" gets tossed around a lot and I think it's appropriate. You look at the quality of some of the stuff you get, and you just wonder why that couldn't be extended to the rest of the game.

For the gameplay itself, I will say that it's better. Haven't played long enough to encounter the maddening glitches, but I'm pretty sure they're going to happen. And really, i'm okay with that, so long as it isn't one type of recurring problem that continuously ruins games (such as the 2k9 duo of OF's not catching balls and first basemen not touching the bag).

The presentation cameras and hit cam have been much talked about, but I also feel like there's some subtle touches in the menu layouts, etc., and with the stats that make this a pretty deep experience. I can't, in good conscience, tell everybody who bought or played 2k10 that they need to run out and buy this, but having done that myself, I don't feel that I will regret the purchase (at least so far).

I was about to say, "this is the most realistic thing 2k has ever done" but then I realized, if it was real life, Carpenter would be hurt for 2 months!

Times like these I wish I had the other system so I would never have to give this sorry company my money again (with the exception of NBA 2K of course). This IS a game killer and it's even more pathetic that they said they patched it.
I got one different i robbed a HR to CF a clear out but it was called a HR and the inning continued

I guess it doesn't happen all the time though because I did have Cody Ross rob Rod Barajas of a deep ball at Dodger Stadium and I was expecting to see the glitch, but it scored it correctly. I wonder if particular fields have this issue.

So that would have been rightfield, it seems as though from what i've been reading the Hr. glitch happens in centerfield. Have you heard of it happening with the left or right fielder as well?

Bought 2K11 for the PC, for $30 I couldn't resist. Highly recommend it for those who have a semi decent PC, no frame rate issues and graphics are superb, minimal "jaggies" too. That said , the experience is ruined for me until some mods come out , my 2 favorite teams are the Brewers and Red Sox. Miller Park scoreboard for the current game you're playing is botched and shows incorrect score/stats (I will be winning 3-0 as MIL and board says 3-0 other team). Also there are names on the back of the Red Sox home jerseys? Come on 2K, really? MLB style guide my behind, piss poor QC year after year with this element of the game. Minor issues I'm sure for most people, but I say

In that game the AI happened to have shifted Ross over to left and it was right at the foul pole. Even though you can stand higher than the fence in the corners at Dodger stadium, Ross did in fact jump to rob the HR. But maybe you are onto something though.

I just played my first game on All-Star difficulty. My Jays vs. the Angels. It was a fun game. Santana was doing a great job of mixing his pitches and keeping me off balance. I was able to keep the game tied with clutch hitting from Adam Lind, but it seemed like I was just holding them off until they put their hits together.

Santana went out at the end of the 5th due to a minor injury. I jumped all over their reliever, putting a walk and a few hits together. I was leading 6-2 in the seventh. The Angels started a rally and closed the gap to 6-4. I had to bring Rauch in early to stop the bleeding, then pick up the save in the 9th.

It was a lot of fun.
