LOL, I'm with you here (except without the temptation). This game is just getting better and better. Every player just feels so unique which is 2k's strength IMO. You can really differentiate an ace from a #5 guy or a closer from a marginal bullpen guy. My cousin, who also has a PS3, went with 2k this year as well. I can't wait for the next patch as I am dying to start a franchise.

Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread
Although I have a PS3 I went with 2k11. I'm still enjoying it. Actually I'm enjoying it more since I stop reading the bug threads. It's not perfect. But it is fun.
Only problem is that that little PS3 birdy keeps whispering about some other baseball game.

Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread
Agreed, I have the Show on my PS3 and 2k11 on my 360. I bounce between the 2, wishing I could take parts from one and add to the other to make a Frankenstein baseball game :P
My stance thus far: The Show feels better on the diamond, 2k11 has a better interface, off the diamond experience. Now if I could just find a way to meld OOTP with these two games.......I could rule the world! You do what you want in your association, don't let others ruin the fun. Just because other people say it's cheap doesn't mean you have to let it affect your association, just have fun - Evan_OSComment

Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread
Finally took the plunge and bought the game this weekend. After playing The Show for the past several years this game is a breath of fresh air. I'm really enjoying it so far although I wish it had auto fielding as I'd much rather skip that part of the game!!
The only gripe I have is that it seems if 2K was doing any type of QC on this game most of the glitches/bugs wouldn't be there. The framerate slowdown and animation glitches happen in EVERY game...how could they miss this stuff?
I hope the next patch cures most of this game's ills because it is a lot of fun to play, but the final game (as it now stands) is sloppy and I really can't think of a good excuse for it. It just seems with a little more effort this game would be the hands down choice over The Show.Comment

Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread
I'm still somewhat surprised with the reviews this game is getting. Did 2k not gift wrap enough copies or something?
I've played about 10-20 games so far and I'm not seeing all these glitches people are talking about. I had 1 freeze in about 20 games. I haven't seen all the other bugs. Each game the AI has been pretty good and the outcome seems to be what I would expect.
Are the graphics a little bit disapointing and inconsistant? Yeah I'd agree with that. They still are pretty good though. But I agree the game can be hard to look at sometimes other times it looks like a real broadcast.
The fielding to me is also a bit of a letdown considering how much it was ballyhood. It feels the same as last year and the big circle thing doesn't really work or make it feel any more natural. I still have seen maybe 2 errors in 20 games. If anything it just sucks because its hard to judge angles on a ball hit in the gap where now i just misjudge it.
Is the gameplay perfect? Not really. There are still too many quick outs and liners, there still aren't a ton of walks, some of the collision detection and animations are wonky especially when near the wall or another player(i still see players making weird adjustments and throws, and not really interacting with the stands too well), but other than that this game is really solid to me. I really don't understand why this game would get any lower than 7.5 or an 8.
All these bugs and saying the game is unpolished is fair I guess, but all this seems fairly minor. Is the game a huge step up from 2k10? Not really but there are noticeable improvements. This is a better playing game. 2k10.5 maybe. Could they have done more? Sure.. I agree 2k can be lazy. But on this games merits alone 2k did release a very solid baseball game. It seems like nitpicking.
I think this isn't a great game. But it's a very good one. It just seems to me like most reviews are on the downside of that and saying the game is fair to good, and nitpicking the negatives, when it's a better game than that. This game does a lot right.
The other game added analog controls so that's seen as a huge step up. 2k already had that. 2k ironed out their gameplay and online play. No they didn't reinvent the wheel, but neither did the other game. Funny thing the Show might have a better game at its core, but 2k is ahead of the curve in areas as well.Last edited by Celtic34; 03-21-2011, 01:20 PM.Comment

Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread
Just something about this game I like. It might not have the graphics yet and the gameplay still might not be as tight, but the interface and online play and just the way this game feels overall. Something about the batting and pitching. I just like it. I think 2k's batting and pitching feels better. So saying the other game feels better on the diamond isn't necessarily true. It might look better and might be more refined, but I don't agree with that sentiment. I think the shows batting and pitching and fielding is super realistic, but 2k's is more fun. It has more of a gamey feel to it where the show is almost too realistic and stale to a fault.Last edited by Celtic34; 03-21-2011, 01:26 PM.Comment

It seems there is a framerate hitch with every flyball to the outfield. Very annoying. If this were another company I'd feel confident in its ability to patch it. But with these guys, I have no faith.
Like you said, it's unfortunate, because with a little polish they have a real fun game on their hands. I'm glad I paid only $33 for it (thanks Model's!).It's on me. I shook his hand too hard. It was a hard ... kind of a slap-shake.

Totally agree with you.
I would keep the shows graphics, hitting, fielding.
And take 2K's commentary, presentation, camera cuts, player expressions, lighting, and total interface like the HUD that display scores and stuff, and the off field interface is awesome.
my 2 cents! We play today, we win today, das it!-

Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread
Worse, other teams do fatigue. So your 100% guys have a huge advantage over teams with 60-70% players. This goes for position players, too.
It's a shame, becasue 2K developed what seems to be the best fatigue system I've seen in a baseball game. But right now, it only works if you sim games. so for now, I'm playing MLB Today and Play Now games only.Comment

Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread
So I bought the game ($15) cause of old game trade ins at gamestop.
Ive been playing the show for 4 years in a row now and Im really just tired of it. The graphics, gameplay is great. Very realistic.
To the point where its getting a bit boring, stale.
2K is a very fun game with their pitching inerface. I love it.
Im not into the swing stick stuff so I play with classic but its not as responsive as Id like.
The thing is that I feel like graphics do matter almost as much as gameplay.
Beautiful, seamless make the experience even better. Look at the great swing animations in MVP 05 that felt as though you were swinging hard. The great fielding animations in the show make pressing a button or pushing a stick feel really slick. 2K has great pitching animations where the pitcher seems like he's actually throwing hard!!!
I look at 2K7 and it was a beautiful looking game with simple and boring, non responsive gameplay.
Why couldnt they keep that template and keep working on it?
Add new features like the analog pitching, hitting, fielding but keep the game the way it looked.
I read these posts with people who buy 2K games and "settle" and defend their game.
I read "with the next patch it'll be totally playable."
"It might not be pretty as the show but it still plays a good game of baseball"
"gameplay is tight, this bug and that bug arent really game killers for me"
What the he**?
Why do we put up with it?
You know theyre able to put out a quality product!
But every year we go out and spend $60 on a piece of junk game that looks and almost plays like its worth $15.
I think some of you guys are too soft on 2K.
Maybe boycott them for a year and they'll back in line to make a great game again.
I dont know Im just venting.
Feels like I have no where to go when it comes to videogame baseball.
The show has grown stale, I play through 5 innings and Im bored.
2K is a newer experience so it'll player a bit better, but for how long?
Ive experienced some bugs and its inexcusable and annoying and unnecesarry.
The graphics and framerate drops are totally inexcusable. its 2011, these are next gen consoles that can handle a lot!Last edited by queensbomber; 03-22-2011, 09:47 AM.We play today, we win today, das it!-

Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread
Some observations...
- Tommy Hanson got clocked in the jaw by a blazing line drive. Ball glanced off his jaw, and Hanson deftly and subtly pulled the ball in as it hung in the air. Ugly.
- You can actually steal this year. Yea!
- Still too many soft liners/line drives to infielders.
- Created players/fictional players now have their faces in the outfield scoreboards, instead of the black silhouettes.
- Freddie Freeman won Rookie of the Year in 2011. In 2012, he won Comeback Player of the Year. LOL! That said, the awards are much more on target than they were last in 2k10.
- I'm using classic swing because I find it easier to use while aiming my left stick at the pitch. Problem is that now I can't use the A Button to select my runner before the pitch is made.
- Stop me if you've heard this before...no, never mind. Don't stop me. It's worth repeating. The fatigue issue in franchise is slightly annoying.
