Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread
The bug itself may or may not be a "game breaker", but it just adds to the already large amount of frustration with 2k and their shoddy work on this baseball series. Plus, as in years past, it suggests that this bug is just the tip of the iceberg--we'll see the obvious gameplay bugs uncovered in the next few days, but the deeper issues (problems with franchise like player fatigue or progression and free agency) will take longer to unearth. Nobody has a great deal of confidence in 2k right now, and finding bugs like this so soon after release makes us think there are a lot more problems with this game just waiting to be discovered.Comment

Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread
After 3 games I am having fun. Broadcast pitching cam's are pretty cool although the O's cam is pretty far back and the strike zone looks so small but I like the variety. The pitching is great as always and on All Star it's pretty difficult to hit your spots every time. Love the emotion of the pitchers as well. I also love the hitting which I have always loved so I'm glad that hasn't changed. Not much to get in depth about because it's pretty much like last year, lol. The new camera angle when batting is pretty cool, I can definitely pick up balls and strikes a lot easier. The AI had 12 hits off of me in my first game. I had already thrown about 90 some pitches in 6 innings.
A couple things that I do not like.. First.. BUCK SHOWALTER!! Love him but not what he looks like in this game. Well, he isn't in this game. They just took like a 3rd base coach, put a helmet on him and slapped Showalter on his back and that is Buck.. I mean, come on, really 2k?
Another thing I hate and might stop me from playing the game a lot is I have not found a way to change the camera when the ball is hit into play on offense. I am not a fan of this new camera and the fact that 2k will not let you change it is piss poor. What about the "we want you to play the game your way" thing I heard in an interview.. Well for some reason they don't give you an option to change that camera, but you can change every other camera in the game. Sorry, I just do not like that zoom out view when I hit the ball. Wish they could patch this and let us change it.
Also noticed when the ball hit in play sometimes there is still the frame rate stutter from the demo.Last edited by Ltrain44; 03-08-2011, 12:06 PM.Comment

Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread
- My first impression is that the first patch DOES correctly remove the Red Sox name on the back of the home uniform.
- For those wondering, you cannot change a player position in the player editor
- No Bernie Brewer down the slide when you hit a HR in Miller Park as the Brewers
- You get the train and fireworks when you hit a HR at Minute Maid (not sure if it was in 2k10)
- All teams seemingly have their correct jersey font
Also, is there a secret to check swinging?Last edited by DrPhibes; 03-08-2011, 12:13 PM.Comment

Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread
I've put some time in with the game this morning. So far, it is all systems go!
Everything is solid and good. My only nitpick is they once again locked the pitcher into batting ninth. It only bothers me because TLR does the whole pitcher batting 8th thing most of the time.
I think the game looks great, and plays smooth. I have it on All-Star, but I am having to ease up on some of the settings. On All-Star, the fielders really do not go after the ball much at all. I bumped fielder speed from 20-30 in both OF and IF, and that seems to have made everything feel very smooth, without taking full control of your guy either.
Hitting has been hard so far, as it was in the demo when I bumped the difficulty up. I increased contact in the sliders, and am still having some issues making contact. But it is really just going to be a feel thing.
I played most of one online game, and it was pretty damn smooth. I was up 2-1 after six innings when the other guy dropped. We pretty much settled into throwing strikes, but I do think we will be able to play real baseball with balls and such. And really, with the lack of control this year, that's kind of big deal. Unless you are just grooving balls down the middle, you are going to miss location a lot. Sometimes it is a pitch you throw out of the zone that ends up in, but most of the time they are strikes that move out.
The trick is timing. I started hitting the ball pretty well in the online game. But when I went back to offline, I am swinging way too early, and it has really screwed up my timing. It will take some time to get used to it, but I might solve it by increasing the pitch speed so that it approximates the online speed due to lag. I have to believe that 2K will tweak the online play some to. They need to do the same bump in fielder speed, as that tiny lag results in some uncomfortable fielding.
On a ball to the OF, the guy will be standing there, waiting for your input, just like on All-Star offline. But that blip of lag makes it even harder to get to the ball. It's even worse hard groundballs in the IF. But offline, a simple bump in fielder speed made this a complete non-issue.
My overall impression is that the game looks and plays great. I'm sure more time will reveal some warts, but this really feels like MLB 2K10, but finished.
To be honest, I'm done looking for things I don't like and am going to just play this and hope nothing reveals itself. I don't get worked up over things like vacuum fielding, jaggies, or any stilted animations. What will bother me are things like the HR bug that I have not seen yet, glaring AI issues, and any inability to make the the plays I'm trying to make becasue the controls fight me.
One thing I remember, that I meant to add, was that with bases loaded and one out in the second inning of a 0-0 game, I went to put my IF to DP depth, and found it already there. So the AI at least made one good decision in that regard. Also, on a flyball to CF that i had to run for, the AI tagged up and moved to third.
And the presentation is just great, as others have said. It's smart, smooth, and comes off as very broadcast-like. Kruk, and it still amazes me, really does add to the depth of the broadcast.Comment

Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread
Having CPU middle relievers with pitch counts of 45-55 is great and all, but not if they are staying in there for 3 to 4 innings.Comment

Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread
Aroldis Chapman throws stupid fast in this game, he started against me and was consistently hitting 103-104 mph though the 5th. his low was 101. It makes him so hard to hit.Last edited by TeachMeHowToBucky; 03-08-2011, 02:27 PM.Comment

Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread
Just played 3 quick innings - definite improvement over the demo. Shadows look better + the graphics are just better in general. Lots of hit variety too. I was liking what I saw.
The only real issue I saw was when I sky'd a ball straight up in the air - the game lagged badly on framerate for a second before continuing to follow the ball. Its not game breaking, just a tad annoying.
I'm thinking of starting up my franchise right now.Comment

Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread
Something nice I saw - the CPU actually changes up its lineup in franchise mode in between games.
I was playing the Tigers, and the first game I played they had Victor Martinez in the 5 hole, but the very next game he was batting 2nd. Nice to see.Comment
